I have to agree with everything -- positive and negative -- that all of the other reviewers have already said. This dentist definitely runs a root canal "factory" and jumps directly from one patient to the next without letting the patient ask any questions. I wouldn't be surprised if he performs a dozen procedures per day. That being said, as expected, he really seems to know his stuff. He might even be one of the best dentists in the area. I am very grateful to him for saving my infected tooth (with a re-treatment) when other dentists told me that I would probably need to extract the tooth and replace it with a synthetic implant. But I also agree with some other patients that the doctor has no bedside manners. Instead of talking me through the surgery and letting me know what he was doing in my mouth, he was chatting with his assistant during my surgery about conducting a cost analysis for cheaper priced disinfectant. WTF! And I'm not sure, but I think he was checking his stock portfolio on his iPhone during the middle of my surgery. LOL. The most bizarre part was the overzealous focus of the whole staff on "payment for services". They called me the night before the surgery to remind me to bring my checkbook or ATM card. I'm totally serious! And they have these big signs all over the office saying something like, "You must pay your bill before you leave or we will call collections on you immediately." Too funny. Or not. So to summarize: top notch surgeon who is obsessed with money and who probably never slows down to eat, breath, or use the bathroom during working hours. I'm sure he drives an expensive car. Came to the office for a consultation as my dentist needed to see if I needed a root canal before proceeding to fill a cavity. I was preparing for the worst as I never had a root canal before, nor wanted one. I came in around 10 am and as a new patient needed to fill in paperwork, the usual. I was taken in about 15 min after I arrived. They took my x-rays and the Dr. came by about 10 min later after his patient. Bruce was awesome, he gave me the details of testing for a root canal and we quickly got it done. Good news is I left not needing one. I feared they would need to but now I just need to get my cavity filled! I would recommend this place! read more

The reviews are accurate. Dr Jespersen seems skilled/competent but as others have said, he's in and out (doesn't stick around to explain post-procedure), he has little/no bedside manner and his abruptness is abrasive. His staff is nice though. I am no stranger to dentists and have had my share of dental procedures before but he berated me sternly twice for squirming, which frankly really surprised me. For instance, first, when he put the mask on me and the corners went up my nose, my hand involuntarily and reflexively went up to grab it because I was going to sneeze. Admonishment #1 for hands to the face. I definitely understand he needs to do his job and I really don't want to impede that happening, but he is just really short with the way he speaks and I found that unnecessary. Since root canals aren't cheap, I'd rather just go to a DDS who has better interpersonal skills and can do the same job. read more

He made few jokes to relax me before the procedure and during the procedure he briefed about next step/remaining steps. And, for super anxious people like me, I did not feel any pain. I recently needed a root canal. I read the reviews on Yelp and thought that Dr. Jesperson was the guy for me. I was in excruciating pain and the staff was able to get me in sooner than my appointment time which I was thankful for. The front desk staff seemed nice enough when I arrived. When I was taken back, the tech wasn't warm or friendly. No smiles or concern over my pain. She had me put on "safety glasses" that were smudged and dirty. She then took an xray and shoved a metal instrument in my mouth onto my sore tooth. No gentleness was given at all, but I was in too much pain to say anything. A few minutes later the doctor came in. He was friendlier than the tech but not much. I was in so much pain that I guess I was literally squirming in the chair. I was crying from the intense pain as he prepped the tooth. He asked if I was OK and I told him that I was " in pain and freaking out." He told me "You can freak out as much as you want as long as you hold still."( I guess the nitrous I payed $150 out of pocket for wasn't having much affect even after I asked them to turn it up.) He also told me to raise my hand if I experienced pain during the procedure. I raised my hand when he hit a painful spot that wasn't numb enough. He replied with "Is that sore?, OK good to know" and proceeded his work without further numbing the area. He finished his work and told me that the root canal was a success and to let him know if I had any concerns, then left the tech to finish me up. The procedure as a whole wasn't too too painful after I was (mostly) numb, but I've had a root canal before with a different dentist and literally felt no pain at all and was given plenty of nitrous to relax me. If I was made more comfortable by the attitude of the staff and Dr. Jesperson himself my rating would be higher. I know root canals are never fun, but this was a particularly unpleasant one. read more

Now, I'm not one to care about pointless chit-chat, "bedside" manner or anything like that, but as soon as he was done with the procedure, he bounced on out of there straight to the next person. (I could hear him in the next room). I would have liked more clarification on post-procedure instructions, chance to ask questions, and an appointment for a follow-up. I had my first ever root canal done by Dr. Jespersen. My regular dentist referred me here, and I am so glad they did! Dr. Jespersen was friendly, and had a good personality. I see the reviews with 1-2 stars complaining that he doesn't have good manners, but that's not true at all. His style is quick and precise, and NO, he does not stick around to chat with you, and the procedure is a very in-and-out experience. HE IS A DENTIST, NOT A PSYCHIATRIST! If you want to sit in someone's office all afternoon, find a different doctor. He does jump around from one room to the other, really fast, but I respect that and acknowledge that he is a fast and efficient worker. Why should I care if I just want my procedure done fast and effectively? If your feelings get hurt because the dentist moves to the next patient too fast, then I guess this isn't the dentist for you. read more

Dr. Jespersen does great work, however, this office is literally a root canal factory. The appointments are scheduled back to back if not overlapping. They talk on their interoffice headsets during procedures to let the assistants know to prep the patient next door. Dr. Jespersen did not explain any of the procedure while he was working and immediately left the room when he was finished. His work was well done, but don'e expect any personal care. Bruce Jespersen was recommended by my dentist for a root canal treatment (RCT). I hesitantly walked into his clinic suspecting all the good reviews I had read on yelp. However my RCT was a breeze! I have no other endodontist experience with which to compare Dr. Jespersen, but between many dentists, an oral surgeon, periodontist, and orthodontist, I have experienced a diverse set of dental care. Dr. Jespersen's root canal was painless, and seemed quite efficient. As a previous reviewer mentioned, I was warned that Dr. Jespersen was perhaps impersonal ("he's not much with people, but he's a great endodontist.") This was not at all my experience -- I found him friendly and outgoing. Maybe my expectations had just been set low in this department, but he exceeded them. Frankly, who cares? Was going to have a root canal but Dr. Bruce asserted that it wouldnt be an ideal solution. He took time to explain to me the tooth's structure and why i'd be better off with an extraction instead. I have had two visits to his office. The first one he decided that it was not an infection and sent an email to my main dentist recommended an alternate treatment. This worked and I am thankful he didn't just do a root canal. The second time I actually did have an infection and was in severe pain and they managed to squeeze me in and get the roots out quickly and give me extra prescription for the pain. I didn't feel anything during treatment and it wasn't more unpleasant than a normal filling. My only regret is I waited weeks the second time and didn't come sooner. Needed a root canal. I have to say that I am incredibly grateful that it was done by Dr. Jespersen. He is an absolute genius at his profession! He gave me my first root canal in my early 20's and he was good then. Not as talkative but thorough. Now he explains everything clearly and seems genuinely concerned about your comfort level. But if he never said more than hello, he would still be my first choice. I cannot stress enough how comforting it is to me to know that I have the most skilled and professional Drs. working to save a tooth I may have otherwise lost. If that is not enough his nurse/assistant seems top notch to me as well, on every level! I absolutely love her! I don't know about anyone else but a root canal can be a traumatic experience. If you're determined not to be a root canal candidate, you get 3 minutes in the chair. My own Dentist, who referred me to this "Specialist", did a more comprehensive exam than this Dr. did. Really? And filling our forms regarding the procedure, billing and responsibility for a root canal when you are only there for a consultation regarding the health of a tooth is ridiculous. I can't wait to see how much the bill was for this unimpressive 3 minute exam. I am beating over $100/minute. If I ever do need another root canal.. I won't be going to this office.. I don't care how many he's done or how happy people were.. his chair side manner is unimpressive. TERRIBLE, terrible bad experience. I have never felt this bad and pain. I was even unable to breath properly and this person did not care. Here, I am with lot of pain now and a job half way done. I do not know what to do. I am a foreigner and I have no clue about how to proceed. He caused me lot of trauma, his manners are REALLY really rude. At the beginning of the treatment, I even chocked when his assistant was taking an Xray, and I did not get mad, we all laughed about the situation after it happened. I had a good attitude. After that, his assistant was nice and tried to calm me down because of the situation, and seemed to care. My treatment could not get done because I could not stand his orders in such a bad tone of voice. I have never been treated like this by a "professional" He definitely has anger issues. I think he did not want to do this job, but he could have told me that rather than causing me trauma and to loose my time. My ears were hurting, my mouth, I couldn't breath properly and he was talking to me in a military tone saying not to move and to open my mouth, I was doing my best. He should not be licensed to work, at least until he is able to control his issues. I cannot believe someone like him can work in this country. Of course, I am not happy with the dentist that recommended him to me. I do not know what to do and I definitely did not deserve to go though this situation earlier in the morning today. After the appointment was cancelled, nobody from his office offered me anything or asked me to stay until I feel better, I did not know what to do since this was my first bad experience. He left the room saying to his assistant "to treat this as an emergency" which I did not understand what he meant. If was clearly not an emergency, it was planned since a long time ago. He left very irritated and with rude manners. I am not happy to see that other people went trough the same situation, but at least I am not the only one. Dr. Jespersen: 1 star Staff: 4 stars Root Canal Procedure: 3 stars This is my first root canal but not my first major dental work. Compared to other dentists, Dr. Jespersen is just a root canal machine who doesn't seem to care about the people he is working on. He has no bedside manners. His answers are short and curt. If he hurts you, he doesn't seem to care. He leaves the room to have a full conversation with another patient in the middle of the procedure. I have TMJ issues so that my jaw can't stay open long without full on pain, again he didn't seem to care. The injection sites hurt more than the tooth he worked on because he was so forceful. My lips are bruised from him smashing his hand and dental instruments into them. He just told me to suck it up and open wider. Here's another good example of his personal skills... Dr. Jespersen ordered penicillin for me and I told him that I can't swallow big pills (I have sensitive gag reflexes). He wouldn't give me other antibiotic options and told me that the pharmacist can give me the penicillin in liquid form. The pharmacist said that there are a lot of antibiotic options for what is being treated and that Dr. Jespersen ordered the biggest pills available and the liquid form couldn't be given to me unless Dr. Jespersen ordered it that way. After several days of calls back and forth between the pharmacy, Dr. Jespersen's office, and me, I finally got the penicillin in liquid format. It took awhile because Dr. Jespersen ignored what I said about being a gagger and told the pharmacy that he wanted to know why I wanted to make changes. I ended up getting very ill from the penicillin and stopped taking it. When I called Dr. Jespersen, he didn't bother ordering other antibiotics. So why did I go through so much trouble and physical trauma? How in the world is he getting the 5 star reviews? read more

Bruce Jesperson is a sniper - in and out in 45 minutes or less. This is both good and bad. Good Points: - He finishes in 45 minutes or less - because he finishes in 45 minutes or less, he is on time - Staff is nice Bad Points: - he will do anything to finish in 45 minutes or less, be it not waiting for the novocaine to kick in fully, to not letting up if you are screaming with agony. - if you're in pain, it annoys him and he will not be patient with you - if you don't seem to appreciate his efforts, he will give you a snide comment like "its your fault you're here, try not to need a root canal in the future". At $1400 for a 45 minute session, I don't expect that as a parting comment - If you run over 45 minutes he is happy to let his assistant finish the temp filling. He drills while she fills. In my experience this is a bad sign, though the temp filling held well enough. Would I go back? If I needed another procedure and couldn't find anyone else to take my insurance, yes absolutely. If you're a root canal vet (had more than two) and are looking for a no-nonsense procedure and have a high pain threshold, he is a winner. If you are are a person who requires any compassion from a medical practitioner, or want the ability to take a break mid-procedure for more than 3 seconds then I'd probably look elsewhere. read more

Being told you need a root canal is never what you want to hear. That being said, Dr. Jespersen was recommended to me by a friend back in April. It was my first root canal and I was very nervous about the horror stories I had heard. Dr. Jespersen's office staff and assistant were so professional and calming that I felt very secure and comfortable that I was in good hands. I requested gas to help with the nervousness and the procedure went by very quickly and PAINLESSLY. Yes, there is the pinch you feel when you get the novocaine shots but he is very good about making that as minimal as possible. One of the things I liked was that he didn't do a lot of talking. He is very focused on what he is doing and quite honestly, I don't need someone talking to me during the procedure. Let's just get the job done and that's exactly what he did. I found out this Wednesday that I needed a root canal on a different tooth after the crown fell off. I called the office and they were able to schedule me for the very next day. Everything went extremely well and I didn't even need the gas! Dr. Jespersen's assistant is AMAZING and did a spectacular job of talking me through my nervousness which was much less after having been through a previous procedure with the two of them. It's a root canal factory. For the money you have to pay, go somewhere else. All of the reviews about the Dr's bedside manner are completely accurate but not only that, the staff is rude. Dr. Jespersen seems to know what he's doing (and he should, that's the only thing he does all day long), but it seems that everyone that works there forgets that a) you are paying a lot of money for this treatment b) it's not a pleasant experience anyway c) you might not have any clue what's going on. First appointment I finally saw the Dr after an hour. He rescheduled because he was running so behind. Unfriendly staff shot me eye daggers the whole time. Pardon me for wasting 2 hours out of my day for nothing. Second appointment I got little explanation before the Dr came in and next thing I know, there's a giant needle being shoved into my mouth twice. No warning. They couldn't care less that there was saliva going everywhere and before I knew it, he was out of the room and the nurse was writing my script. I asked a few questions about a crown/filling after and the nurse had zero patience for me. Totally patronizing. Also, the script I was given didn't have my name or date on it so the pharmacy turned it done. read more

He was brusque, condescending, and rough. I know I was nervous, but he kept doing things that hurt, such as pinch my lips between the instruments and my teeth, and when I involuntarily jerked, he would tell me to stop moving or I'd snap his tool off. I get it, but there's a way to say things nicely; it's called good bedside manner. I should know as I am a physician. I was so upset by the end of the procedure I had to collect myself before I could safely drive home. I don't care if he is technically good, as I am sure there are equally good endodontists who are nice to their patients and don't make them cry . I'll never return. read more

HORRIBLE Experience. Dr. Bruce Jespersen was rude to my husband and dismissive of his request for nitrous oxide. My husband was in extreme pain the entire time. Would give negative stars if we could. The dentist was was VERY dismissive of my husband's pain. Edit: After the procedure, my husband was dizzy and shaking and the assistant was very helpful and actually used a wheel chair to get my husband to our car. They waved the fee for the nitrous since he was having such a hard time. However, our opinion of the Endodontist stays the same. He was dismissive and did not act when my husband communicated that he was in pain. read more

My experience at Dr. Bruce Jesperson's clinic was not a good one. I went to his clinic because I was referred by my dentist. My root teeth were getting shorter and I needed to see a specialist. His team was busy at that day, but I was OK with the waiting thing if I had had a good service. I was waiting for about 15 min at the dentist chair before he came to talk to me. Dr. Jesperson looked at my X-rays, did a sensitivity test in my teeth and told me that I didn't need a treatment. He took no more than 3 minutes for all that process, and he didn't even offer me his service in case my teeth conditions changed in the future. His assistant noticed the issue and she apologized for him after he left. I expected a better service coming from a specialist like that. I didn't have a good service for the price I paid for. read more

I was very scared about having my first root canal here with Dr. Jespersen, but I soon realized I had nothing to worry about. The most painful part of the procedure (which wasn't painful at all really) was when he injected the novocaine into my mouth. Other than that, the root canal took about 20-30 minutes and that was it! He prescribed me penicillin to take after the procedure that I went and picked up later at a pharmacy. ' Hours later, the novocaine has worn off, and I am in no pain whatsoever except for of course my jaw being sore from the injections and having to hold it open during the procedure. Dr. Jespersen was quick and easy and great! If you need a root canal, he's the guy! Oh, also: His assistant was great. She made me feel very comfortable the entire time! read more

He was professional and fast. I needed a root canal while I wasn't in a great condition so after the procedure I was quite spent (nauseous, fatigued). The staff was terrific in taking care of me and making sure my blood sugar level not too low with grape fruit juice etc. One of the nurses (Maria) even offered me some lavendar oil to smell to get rid of my dizziness. I would recommend both the doctor and the staff for their skill and kindness :) read more

A no nonsense straight to the point Endodontist! I wish all my doctors were as precise as him. I initially came for a consultation for pain in two molars, a root canal tooth and a crowned tooth. Turns out my root canal had to be redone because my general dentist missed a canal and I had an infection. The crowned tooth apparently was fine. For this one, I had previously gone to another endodontist who told me it would need a root canal, but Dr. Jespersen told me it didn't need a root canal. I guess we'll see with time if the pain gets worse or not. When I came in for the root canal re-treatment I was out in about an hour. He actually took about 35mins, the rest of the time was just for prepping the room, paperwork and payment processing. I think the receptionist that helped me was Maria and she was awesome and efficient. I know having a root canal is no fun. But this guy made it seem like it was a walk in the park. He was light on his hands especially when it came to the anesthetic, I barely felt a pinch. Everyone at the office seemed friendly to me. The only complaint I have is I had originally scheduled my appt for 4pm since late afternoon works best for me, but I had to have it moved to 8am the same day because the endodontist needed to leave early or something. Yea mornings at no good for me at all. Let's hope next time I can keep the time I want. read more

Dr. Jespersen is absolutely very skilled in doing root canal. I was there waiting for him at the same time his assistant preparing me for the surgery (he is tough on training assistants). After coming in, he was fast, finished the treatment within about 7 minutes. I was worried in the beginning but could feel that he was very confident and skillful! I returned after two months for followup check and was told that the treatment was successful. I returned again after six months for final checkup and was very surprised and disappointed that Dr. Jespersen did not come to see me this time. This is why I took out on star-- 1.5 stars if I could. The assistant took an X-ray and showed to him and returned saying that everything seems fine and then trying to send me home. I actually had several questions to ask the doctor to confirm before going to the next step with my tooth. I want confirmation because I have done many treatments with this tooth and don't want to make mistakes again. The assistant answered my questions but it's always like "maybe...perhaps..." but I need a professional and firm answer! This visit ended up my asking questions one by one and the assistant went to another room to ask the doctor and return to give me answers. To be honest, very disappointing.... read more
