I agree with the other Jennifer L.--, wandering a massive thrift store is practically a sport. For me AT is a guilt free pleasure and well deserved break from work. Parking: Avoid the small lot during peak times. Park on the street or in the lot across the street. Pricing: Yes, prices are creeping up, but that's the case for all thrift stores, and this is a for-profit store. I do see some weird "Wheel of Fortune pricing" on random items (like Corning Ware or Vince clothing), but I just let it go. There are still deals to be found, and they are replenishing items all day long. Discounts & Bags: Look at the monitors to see what is 50% off, or snap a pic of the today's sales sign on your way in. A note on shopping bags: yes, they make you check them in. Bring a huge blue IKEA bag, check it in, get your ticket, and grab a cart. Carts disappear fast on busy days. Dressing Rooms & Bathrooms: There are 3 fitting rooms and 2 bathrooms. They will ask you to park your big shopping cart outside because it's a cramped setup, and there is a 5-item max allowed in the fitting room at a time. The Elevators: They are not broken; they are just slow. It's an old factory building, and the elevators are shared with the staff who are restocking all areas all day long. It just requires some patience. The One Change I'd Make: I wish they would hang up some mirrors--at the very least near the coats or scarves. It would save so many extra trips back to the dressing room. Checkout: The line to pay ebbs and flows. It can be winding around the store, or it can have four people total. Even when the line looks scary, it does move. The cashiers are friendly; sometimes one might be having an off day, but that is rare.

OK, it was the Caran D'ache Grafcube, red tint. There's no place that has this and I *had* to have it *now*, so I checked Blick's website and the store availability checker... In stock in Harlem (only). I'm in Brooklyn but it's a nice bike ride, so on my way... I get there, it's right near the Studio Museum (YES! MY FAVORITE NYC MUSEUM) I find the right aisle, I find the Caran D'ache case which says "Grafcube RGB" - the EMPTY case! The lady who had already offered to help me was still nearby, so I asked her. She checked and the inventory system said there were several in stock. There are overstock cartons above the shelves, labelled with brand or media type. This incredible person (drum roll here...) N'Deye (pronounced En-Day, BTW) reassures me that we'll find them, gets a ladder and starts taking down and going through each obvious carton. When we've exhausted those, she then goes through the non-obvious cartons. We examined about 30 cartons(!) When we cannot find them, she gets a colleague (manager maybe) and he tells her some things to check in the inventory system and they determine that they're not actually in the store (last received over a year ago), maybe stolen. N'Deye then apologized so profusely and sincerely. Hey. at this point I was so touched by all of the attention that had been given, I was fine :) So... disappointing trip...? I plan on coming back with girlfriends and making it a girls-night-out. Highly recommended.

The owner of Browse is a liar and her business is a fraud. It is run by a woman with no ethics to customers and sellers. Stay as far away as possible from Browse in Bogota if you don't want to lose your clothes or money! She didn't return to me 7 items !!!! I gave her for consignment (the value of those items was $325 - in her store!!!). She told me that someone, probably, stole them! She also tried to tell me personal stories about her boyfriends and personal life just to make me forget about my designer clothes that simply disappeared from her store. She is a terrible person and business woman! She is a liar! If you would like to have your money or unsold items back please stay clear from the Browse and person who owns the store. I wish I would have never met her in my life. read more

On Tuesday and Thursday mornings, a small group of us would line up outside, waiting for the newly priced donations to hit the floor. When the doors opened, we didn't walk, we charged. The thrill wasn't just in buying something, it was in discovering it. You could furnish an entire home in early-'60s style from that shop alone - shag rugs, macramé curtains, kidney-shaped tables, lava lamps, bar carts, wide-eyed waif prints. It felt like stepping into another era. And if you were lucky and petite, you might even score a designer Prada blazer for the price of lunch. Over the years, thrift shopping became fashionable, and the prices rose with it. The finds are more curated now, the bargains fewer. But every so often, tucked between the racks or hidden on a back shelf, there's still a small spark of that old magic. The best part, which will never change, is knowing your purchase supports local charities at this little thrift shop in Piermont. It's been there for over 50 years too! Some places sell things. I was lucky to score a Prada dress and jacket a few years back--my size, a women's zero, which isn't exactly in demand. It makes me sad to see this once-humble little shop drift into high-end territory. I'll keep going though, my eye is still trained to spot something special. It just might get a little heavy-lidded waiting for that magic find.
