If you're on a trip to Ashridge and don't take a picnic, then this is where you'll be eating and drinking. It's a nice comfortable outdoor but sheltered setting which is popular with ramblers, riders and dog walkers who frequent the area. There is quite a lot of choice here, hot and cold food and if the weather is good then there's also a BBQ running. It's not cheap, but you don't have much choice as this is the only cafe unless you fancy a drive/long walk to a local gastropub but that's not to say you won't get value for money as the food was well prepared. Queues are long, it took me 20 minutes to order my food but that was a peak time Sunday lunch time. I don't recommend any of the cakes, we tried slices of brownie and carrot cake and although baked and prepared in a home-made manner I've tasted much better from a supermarket. £1 for a can of coke is a bit pricey though (the nearby Ice Cream vendor is forbid from selling drinks), if you can take a cool box of drinks and sweets then grabbing a bite to eat here won't seem to expensive. read more
