Our vision was to have our initials and wedding reception date in calligraphy on the paper and have our reception guests sign it. We would then frame it and hang it in our home. I called Rona immediately since we were 3 weeks away from our event and she called me right back. We talked about what I was looking for and she told me her rate of $75/hr, which I think is very reasonable for what we needed. She also asked me to send photos of the art paper and a sketch of what I wanted. Rona said she could work on our calligraphy that weekend so we dropped off our art paper to her and waited to hear back from her. We picked it up the following week and it was beautiful. She left a lot of space for our guests to sign around our initials and after our first guest signed it, we realized just how challenging it must have been for Rona to do the calligraphy on the art paper. It is handmade from bark so has texture and is absorbent, and the gold paint is not easy to mark over. Our archival and non-smearing ink pens did not write over the gold paint on the paper but it turned out fine. Thank you again Rona. Your art will be part of our home and life as a married couple!

This is an exceptional human being, an artist, who cares deeply about the quality of her work. She put onto (gorgeous) paper a poem that I had written for my father on his 90th birthday. It is just beautiful and it will be a deeply meaningful gift for my dear old dad. The framer, who deals with fine art, was bowled over by her work and asked for her contact information. In this era, when everything is cranked out on a computer, what Rona does feels like a miracle. She's also a beautiful human being, with a heart and a soul, who knows literature and music--it was such fun to visit with her. I cannot recommend her highly enough. I can't wait to find the next project so I can work with her again. Oh, and considering the caliber of her work, her prices are reasonable.

We worked with a graphic designer of Linda's to design our own art deco wedding logo which we used on all our materials and on a tote bag as the thank you gift. Searching online and locally for well-designed, quality invitations, custom or mass produced was a time consuming and difficult task. I scoured hundreds of images and found myself reluctantly flipping through card store catalogues, in hopes of finding something that would delight and also save me from becoming a graphic designer again. I've always respected and admired letterpress printing for being one of the finest (and most expensive), traditional, printing techniques reserved for very special events. Our wedding was a time to bite the bullet and go letterpress. In SF, "retro" looking designs were more readily available as a letterpress option, which wasn't our first choice, but we were open to it. TWICE, I called a pretty well-Yelped reviewed stationery studio that offered these looks, but they did NOT return my voice mail the first time. The second try, I wanted to see if they would allow me to browse their selections within that day (called in the morning on a Wednesday), granted it was last minute, but still, it was a no go. Parked in my car, with no invitation resources to head to, I Googled "letterpress, wedding invitation, san francisco" ... up popped "Burns & Associates". I called them on the spot and they welcomed me to come by anytime! I drove over to the Laurel Village area, within a residential street, walked through a little alleyway between homes and entered their lovely studio. I was greeted warmly, like a friend, by Jamie. She offered me a seat and had already pulled aside some catalogues and samples of the most beautifully designed letterpressed invitation suites. I was IN LOVE. I mean, I LOVED everything she showed me ... I tell ya, it was so refreshing after flipping through pages of mediocre designs at the other mainstream card shops. Immediately, we got our order underway. The entire process and our service from Burns was professional, and wonderful. We were not a number somewhere. Our invitations were the best I've seen. I had Inja do the calligraphy for our wedding invitations...she sent me a price sheet and several styles of calligraphy that she could do. She was also very flexible in modifying the calligraphy style I had chosen with an extra "flourish" to complement the script on our invites and for a small nominal fee, matched the calligraphy ink color to the invitation ink color (dark, dark brown). She can even add shimmer to the ink! I met her on a Thursday night after work, handed her 125 envelopes and an address list. Met her the following Thursday after work and she handed back to me envelopes adorned with the most exquisite calligraphy. I couldn't be happier. Seamless and professional. And we are definitely going to have her do the menus and the place cards. :-)
