I was booked to play the bagpipes at the White Hart for this years Burns Supper. When I arrived I…read morewas greeted with a warm welcome from the owner Sean and his family. As well as doing the traditional piping in of the haggis, etc I was very well looked after all evening. I was invited to be seated at a table with a great bunch of guys and was served a 3 course meal of the highest standard. In fact all the guests were so impressed with the food that the owner brought the chef in at the end of the evening for a round of applause from the customers! It always frustrates me that the chef doesn't get recognised for his good work in most places I eat so I was most impressed with this act of appreciation. Sean had only been running the pub for a couple of months and it was his first attempt at a Burn's night. I said at the end of the evening (and I meant it) that out of the 100 or so Burn's Supper events I've performed at Sean's topped them all. He had a superb Master of Ceremonies who not only read out the Selkirk Grace and Address To The Haggis but he also got up and gave a brief but interesting history of the life of Rabbie Burns. Later on in the evening he even played a few Burns songs on his guitar . I don't think there was one customer in the pub that night who hadn't had a good time. I personally was very much appreciated as a piper and people were clapping along and stamping their feet to my jigs and reels which made me enjoy the evening all the more. So to summarise if you're looking for a pub that serves top quality meals run by genuinely friendly wonderful people, like your malts, real ales or fine wines then I'd highly advise you take a vist to The White Hart.
