The City is running radio ads for their 2 golf courses, and Brown Acres is one of them. So, we decided to go in support. BAD DECISION! We paid to walk 9 holes in later afternoon. Course was basically empty as others have noted. We also purchased food and beer to further support. The course is in "okay" condition, but the greens had been top-dressed within last day or 2, so they were not rolling true at all, and very slow. When we got to #6 green, I suggested we play 2 extra holes that would bring us right back to #6 green, because the course was empty, we had enough daylight, and we were enjoying the nice weather. I suggested we would let them know inside when we finished and pay for the 2 extra holes if asked. We were in the fairway, when the course pro, Lamar, comes out and says these exact words "Did you fellas take a wrong turn somewhere" in a very sarcastic manner. Before I could tell him what we planned to do, he cut me off and told us to go back to #7 and would not allow us to play the 2 extra holes. I want to note that the front nine was EMPTY......not a single player in site anywhere, except for us. We will be returning to our normal course in town we play, where they never say a word about playing a few extra holes, especially when greens have been worked on and stink, and also appreciate us patronizing their pro shop and snack bar. They also send an email thanking us for coming out, and are less expensive to play! Not sure what I was thinking, but we will not make the mistake again. Go play golf where you are appreciated! read more
