Flavors included original cinnamon and sugar, all the way to Boston cream, blueberry pancake with injectable maple syrup, or the BroOreo. They were slightly heavy while sitting in my tummy after, I also ate all 3 of mine within a couple minutes, so maybe spread them out when you try them! Bro's Doughs is onto something- made-to-order doughnuts. Tucked away within a strip mall is this little shop with over two dozens of doughnuts from classics to creations. A few things to know when you arrive: 1) Doughnuts- they make cake doughnuts, not yeast like you're used to at a Dunkin's Doughnuts or most other doughnut shops. They are also much SMALLER than doughnuts you're used to, which I prefer because you can eat two without feeling guilty. 2) Price- they sell for $1.25 for one classic and $1.50 for a creation (with fancier toppings). I ordered a box of six classics for $6.75. 3) Warmth- key here is to eat it ASAP when they are still hot. I enjoyed a chocolate glazed one while hot that the glaze was coming off. I've never had a fresh-fried donut before, it's definitely very different from a typical glazed donut from Krispy Kreme or a cake donut. The outside has a nice crunch and the interior is so incredibly fluffy. The flavor was like a typical cake donut but that's where the toppings come in. A bit disappointed that they aren't stuffed or filled but the flavors were on point. I have to say that I've never really loved cake doughnuts, but I know now I just haven't had the right one. Bro's Doughs just opened near Knapp's Corner by the Beltline and I got a dozen to share with my coworkers. These doughnuts are made fresh, hot, and topped to order, which makes all the difference in the world. The cake is light and moist and the outsides are crunchy in the right places. I was blown away by these doughnuts! They offer Classics and Creations, totaling about 50 different types every day. The Classics are the powdered, sugared, and frosted doughnuts, and the Creations are the crazy delicious combinations! My favorites were the cherry cheesecake, raspberry chocolate, and cookies and cream. They are mini sized which is perfect for me, as I always cut regular sized doughnuts into quarters! I would say two doughnuts per person is just right for a sweet treat. Pricing is based on the type of doughnut (classics or creations), and you can get them in multiples of 1, 6, or 12 (or more, someone else preordered 50!). You can also get a Bro Pack where you can mix and match 6 classics and 6 creations! This is what we did to try the most for our first visit. I would definitely recommend going this route. There's a window so you can watch the doughnuts being made; it's really fun to see them float and flip through the fryer. If you've been to Daily Dozen in Pike Place Market, it's very similar. These doughnuts are way better, though! There's a step stool for kids to watch which is a nice touch. The shop itself is pretty small and only has a few chairs and floating ledges, no tables. It doesn't really matter since you'll want to eat these doughnuts right away and then maybe order another one! They also sell coffee and bottled beverages. Currently they don't have any vegan or gluten friendly options but I heard they will be coming in the future as a monthly special. It's a bit difficult to describe the donuts in words. They are more "dough-y" than say Krispy Kreme's airy and light donuts. My friend described them as kind of tasting like pancakes! They are the perfect texture and weight for me. And they aren't too large in size so not overwhelming at all in terms of sweetness. Oh my god, yes. Cake doughnuts. While I enjoy their denser cousin, the fry cake, there's just something about a regular doughnut that you can't beat. While a little smaller than your normal doughnut, I enjoy that I can order more varieties. I got a pretty good spread (18) and they were all a hit. Our favorites were peach cobbler, lemon, maple and vanilla cinnamon sugar. What I loved about the cinnamon sugar in particular was how much it reminded me of the doughnuts that you can get on the pier in San Francisco. Each doughnut is balanced. I was coerced into going here by a friend of mine on a random outing today, the unassuming signage and garish colors foreboding in the distance as we approached. The interior was small, sharp, and cramped. This to match the size of the doughnuts you're about to buy and the size of the dissatisfaction that will follow. There was only a single person, visibly, working in the store at the time which reduced productivity and turnout to a buttery crawl. When it was my turn to order I was spoiled for choice with none of them enticing any desire from my brisk, bitter heart. The doughnuts were separated into a cakey Caste system with "original" flavors and "creations." Again, there is a myriad of options presented to the customer that are wide ranging, but when asked what I would like none of them stood out to me. The creations are as you'd expect, spanning from your Maple Bacon's to your "Flintstones" topped with fruity pebbles. The exotic quickly devolves into the absurd. I picked out what they label as the "Bro Pack," six of the classic and six of the creations, intermingling, attempting to co-exist despite what their families say about them. I tacked a creation on the side just to try in the moment. The flavor of these doughnuts is unique. They are deep-fried dough, not your typical yeast-based doughnut as you'd get from somewhere like Dunkin or Robinette's. The flavor of the doughnut itself, as good as it may be, overpowers the accompanying flavors like a bad vocalist who's really feelin' it at the garage band's big gig. I'd imagine the more pronounced flavors on offer would cut through, but the fried flavor, coupled with the fresh-out-the-fryer heat of the doughnut itself mutes most of the flavor that could be had. This is especially bad with the creations. The dainty dollop of Boston Cream that sat atop one of my doughnuts like a Gargoyle atop a cathedral tower was brought low, depressingly sliding down the side of the doughnut, amassing on the bottom of the box leaving me to try and scoop it up, breaking apart the piping hot doughnut with bithb latent futility. The other creations' flavors cut down by the fried flavor. The real point of contentious criticism with this joint is obviously the price. These are NOT big doughnuts. Some could even argue their position as "mini's." These are doughnut bites, allotting only one and a half bites before the pastry is completely devoured. The Bro Pack, coupled with the creation on the side, ran me just about $20. Were these full-sized bro's the price would be commensurate. But considering that this particular location sits nestled in close proximity to D&W where you can get multiple doughnuts bigger than your head for considerably cheaper, it is absolutely unacceptable. Rubbing salt in the wound by requesting either a 15-20% gratuity, only further perpetuating the abhorrent tip-culture we've been cursed with. Bro's Doughs left me Bro's Dozing. There is a large amount of variety in the different types of flavors on offer, especially considering the holiday options that were present. But alas, again, none of them stood out so much as to warrant them being placed within my box. The atmosphere within the store, if you can call it that, is so heavily modernized it became cold and uninviting, the last thing you want to describe your doughnut shop. Drinks on offer were a motley crew of water bottles, Gatorade's, and drinks that you've never heard of. All most likely priced well beyond what anybody is willing to pay. Once the initial novelty of what you've done wares off, I was left with apathy. If the faux-artisanal allure of these onerous originals or contentious creations pique your interest, by all means. The one thing that was challenging was with the small size of the donuts keeping your fingers clean / keeping the frosting from sliding off the top of the hot donut.
