been going here for years and generally it was a good decent chemo center by and large, the staff most friendly and the treatment decent. until they just closed the riverside dr location to save some cash... Its no longer the same place, the staff are mostly the same but the location is now garbage and so is their support staff/hosp. Its Binghamton General, most locals know to avoid this place like the freaking plague unless dying and even then maybe just suffer! Why This "Bullshit" Setup for Oncology Anyway? Tying back to Broome's shift: UHS pushed it for "efficiency" (shared resources, no extra rent), but it ignores patient realities like yours. The 6th-floor clinic's a quick ED overflow hack--functional for infusions but zero charm, especially with the ward vibes below. They could've eyed that plasma spot (better parking, safer hood near BU), but system inertia won: Cheaper for them, shittier for you. What Now? Dr. Harris and Broome Oncology- at first was ok, but things got neglected when we (husband) wanted to see him instead of nurse. ALL NURSES were professional and kind and often covered for him. He is aloof and wasn't around when an immediate course of action , a change in chemo / treatment was needed. My husband's course of action was delayed and it was disastrous as he needed immediate attention. If you can I would strongly suggest for you to see or switch to other drs. that are there. Or if able to go and what us best- Go To Syracuse or Rochester. We finally went to Sloane-Kettering in New York city and got the care he needed and then had to coordinate between the two centers. PLEASE GO TO A CANCER CENTER/ HOSPITAL THAT SPECIALIZES IN YOUR SPECIFIC CANCER. Broome is not. Coordination between all my husband's drs./tests at UHS was a nightmare. He had other health issues that he needed addressed as most cancer patients do. As they all have different patient portals and then to add Sloane -Kettering cancer center and their need to get his medical records. Requesting Dr. Harris notes when he didn't have any???? NEVER have I been so poorly treated. Thank goodness, Upstate is close by. Would you believe, Pathology can give a final diagnosis, before all the reports are in, telling me I have an aggressive cancer, and chemo was scheduled in less than 2 wks. "Could you imagine, you are a healthy person, no chronic issues, just a swollen lymph node, and you are told you have aggressive cancer" Everyone in the office was great, except Dr. Sambidi, and LeeAnn office manager. Dr. Sambidi took 2 1/2 days to RETURN my call, when additional pathology results came in, suggesting that this may just be non-aggressive cancer, with a watch and wait scenario. I had an additional biopsy to confirm my diagnosis. 5 days later, 6/6, the results came in, my great surgeon, Dr. Engler, called within hours to tell me the diagnosis, great news! Once again, I had to call Dr. Sambidi, to get the answers, she won't talk on the phone, she doesn't have time, she stated. On 6/16, I was able to get appt. for the next day, eleven days after diagnosis change. After a month of hell, getting prepared, the diagnosis was wrong, now it's a, watch and wait. I had complained to the manager, LeeAnn, she at least apologizes, asks if I would talk to Sambidi on the phone, over a visit, and I agree. A week passes, no call, then LeeAnn, calls back, and tells me Sambidi, wont talk on phone, and wants an appt. next day. The appt. went well, with discussion on new diagnosis. I then asked Dr. Sambidi, why it took so long to call me, especially after such a scare. Sambidi, stated, she was too busy, she had too many other critical patients, and there are not enough hours in the day. Also, note she never even apologized. That is the way it is, with all Oncology locations. Here's the best one, if I didn't like my treatment, I was free to go elsewhere. WOW, who would believe, you would hear this from an Oncologist. I just couldn't believe what was said. This is why, I would never seek treatment, at UHS, or Guthrie, for they all belong to BROOME ONCOLOGY. PS.- If you had a good experience, I am very happy for you, for there is nothing more challenging in life than cancer treatment. UPDATE ON REPLY: I received a message from UHS, as expected, the reply is that BROOME ONCOLOGY is a private practice, hired by UHS, so they have no direct control over how they do things. My message would be sent off to UHS's Chief Medical Officer. One way to control or should I say, NOT CONTROL the quality of patient care, sub-contract it out! We have 2 great hospitals in the area, but when it comes to Cancer treatment, there's only 1 option......... Additional note: Another patient commented on the availability to get through to one of the doctors, when needed in a emergency. Did you know that the doctors cover 2 locations, Bing. and JC. so they are only in office 2 or 3 days. They also rotate who covers, for the week, our area hospitals, for patient (visits). Dr. Lee and all of the nurses and staff were fantastic! I had a rare form of breast cancer and they consulted Memorial Sloan Kettering to work along side them. I'm happy to report that my cancer is gone! read more

I am a woman of color, currently receiving care from a cancer specialist at the Johnson's City, NY office. I have experienced poor treatment from both the front desk and medical staff on various occasions throughout my visits. I've already brought up this issue with the doctor and the office manager three times. During one of the visits, I was degraded and humiliated by the phlebotomist in front of patients and staff. That same phlebotomist also invaded my privacy twice. As a patient, I have the right to object to a procedure, care from a provider, or both. I, the patient, should not face hostility, harassment, retribution, or retaliation for any decision I make. This office is conveniently located near my home. Furthermore, it's the only cancer office in the vicinity. Moving somewhere else or relocating is not an option. That being said, I'm concerned that things might become worse. Meantime, I will keep standing up for myself, advocating for myself, and show up for myself. My December appointment has also been rescheduled until the end of January. read more
