I would give this place 5 stars for the inventory, 4 stars for the prices and NEGATIVE 10 stars for the woman running it. My boyfriend and I are still flabbergasted at how we were treated today by who I assume is the owner. We drove by on a day out exploring the area and shopping. It caught our eye, so we were excited to check it out on the way back through. The woman in question was outside when we arrived. There is a lot to look at outside so we were just taking a look at the various items strewn around the parking lot perimeter. Off to the side, I saw a large sign saying to not go beyond that point with items for sale all around it. To the right of the sign and directly next to it was a piece of pottery that caught my eye. I took a few steps and stood in line with the pottery. The do not enter sign next to it was kind of in front of me. Out of nowhere, the woman in charge starts loudly shouting "Ma'am! Ma'am!" repeatedly. I turn around startled and she loudly chastises me for walking beyond the sign. She goes on to point out the sign to me and tell me as if I was a two year old that the sign is there and I needed to read it. I am not one to lose my temper easily, but given there were other people in the parking lot looking at me, I was mortified. Not to mention that I was in fact abiding by her signage and not disrespecting her property. I explained to her I just wanted to take a closer look at the pottery next to the sign. She asked me almost defensively "What thing?! What are you looking at?" When she realized there was indeed an item there, she became slightly nicer and told me it was for sale if I wanted it. Yeah no thanks. At that point I wanted to tell her she didn't have to worry about me because I was leaving. However, my curiosity got the best of me and I decided to see what was in the shop. She directed me first to an outside enclosed area which housed a lot of items. I asked first if we were allowed in there and she said yes. She then attempted to justify her earlier actions by explaining there was an OPEN SEPTIC HOLE beyond the sign so she didn't want people wandering back there. One would think maybe she would have, oh I don't know, a FENCE in place to keep people out? Or maybe at least wait till someone actually walked BEYOND the sign before yelling at them? But I digress... Despite all this, I found several items I liked in her store. I decided some folks can't help having a shit personality, but the wares I wanted to buy made up for the initial experience. Well, then strike two came. I heard a gentleman ask her nicely if a stack of dishes were a set or priced individually. Instead of nicely telling him what the deal was, she says "Well they each have a price so that would mean they are individual." Yes, this was in the same 'are you an idiot?' tone she took with me. I saw the man visibly stung put the items back and walk away. The final straw for us came when I started to notice she seemed to be hovering around my boyfriend and I. I work in the justice system and I can tell immediately when someone is watching someone else because they think they're shady. We were both highly offended by this since we are law abiding, hard working people. I think this woman decided right away she didn't like us and I think she formed her opinion of us as soon as we rolled up and got out of the car. Maybe it was the NJ plates? She watched us like a hawk from the first second we set foot on her property. Considering we were both wearing Eddie Bauer, I don't think we exactly came across as shady. We made the decision to leave and it was such a disappointment all around. I easily could have dropped $100 in her store and would have if the experience had been better. There are so many antique stores in the area and I would recommend you check those out before giving this woman any business. I don't think I have ever seen someone speak so poorly to and disrespect their customers. I recommend heading over the Smithville Flats and checking out The Book Peddler. He often has a decent antique selection and an amazing antique and modern used book section. He's also a nice, courteous person who you can tell appreciates every person who walks through his door. I felt inclined to write a review after reading the one star given three years ago. I live in the area, and stop in occasionally - usually when I have a visitor from out of town and we are looking for a destination to browse antiques. Brookside has so much to look at and a huge variety from a number of vendors. The prices are about what one expects, but you can find some real bargains if you look. As for the proprietor, I have always found her to be pleasant and business like - I imagine that she has had to deal with folks who have light fingers or who are dead set on walking away without paying for an item. There is SO much to look at, and it is spread out not only in several rooms but outdoors. I have to kind of chuckle at the reviewer who commented that they are from Jersey and were wearing Eddie Bauer so obviously they were not just unkempt loiterers - I have been there wearing barn clothing and just off from mucking stalls. I didn't get the idea I was unwelcome, ever... but maybe I am not that sensitive. read more

This is a great shop with an ever changing variety of merchandise. I have found some real bargains here, you never know what you will find.

This antique shop is mesmerizing and filled with all kinds of treasures. We love, love, love this place!! We are regulars at the quaint shop and the owner is such a sweetheart. You will be hooked once you pay a visit here. So much to see, the perfect atmosphere for someone just browsing or the avid collector. read more
