I called the manager and he told me that the instructors are on their way and that he will call me at 10:20. He never called...I ended up calling HIM at 10:25. I finally got to sit down at 10:45 AM and start the class. The manager seemed very professional and reassuring and I was very disappointed because it was everything but that. I understand that things in life happen but I spoke with a friend of mine who attended the same class and said she had to wait outside for 30 minutes for a 10:30 class. Business hours say 9:30 AM. Perhaps the EASIEST thing you can do while running a reputable business is be punctual. I don't see how it is justifiable to be 40 minutes late to your own class and make clients wait that long for you. The actual class went ok. The manager told me a few days prior that the instructors would take a look at my resume for me. When I mentioned to the instructor she said to ask the manager and email him. I don't know whether this is called "passing the buck" or just false reassurance. If I hadn't already given a $20 deposit I would have left. Please DO NOT come here if you value your time because these people don't. I will most definitely never come back here again.

The manager said I had to make a $20 deposit and then he'll send an assessment link because it's new and required for AHA. I told him I needed my certificate before Tuesday. He said he'll try to accommodate me. I came all the way home after paying the $20, never received the link to an assessment and then I called him back after seeing the reviews. He started to get rude, saying that I "don't see how he's trying to rectify the situation. He's a physician assistant and been doing this for 18years." He said he was currently in a class- but how are you currently in a class when i called you while in front of the school door and you told me I'd have to come back Tuesday? Then when I said that he said I can come back today at 3. I tried to explain to him his yelp reviews are all complaining about his lack of consideration for others people's time. He hung up on the phone. Too much back and forth about when I would be able to take my class. After it while it became sketchy and redundant. Don't even waste your time or money. Totally not worth it.

I took the summer course with Karen Fiorello. To preface- this course is for serious students only!…read moreIf you've gone to summer college courses before, it's pretty on par with the amount of material you will need to cover. Unless you already took biology elective courses in college, you will need to dedicate a whole day at least to completing the reading and assignments. All the reviewers that whined about how much you have to cram probably have no experience taking college summer courses- so again, SERIOUS STUDENTS ONLY! If you are not confident about how much you can retain in such a short time, speak to ECP about their longer sessions- the session I took was only 3 months. You can always discuss switching courses within the first few weeks, ECP will work with you on that. Adversely, if you're already a biology major, you can take the advanced course. After working as an EMT for five months, I can confidently say that ECP prepared me for almost everything (you know, minus specific company policies and issues). Some things I've learned were not even taught by the programs my work partners went to. Karen was always available on the class WhatsApp chat and all the other instructors like AnneMarie, Rickey, Chris(both of them), Moon, Irene, Shirley, Amanda, ...etc were always happy to provided real life experience advices and tips. Most if not all of them graduated from ECP too. I'm still in contact with some of my classmates and instructors to exchange information about protocol changes and such. Like other programs, ECP mandates a rotation with the option to do a 911 rotation which really helps with orienting yourself to the job. Some of my classmates have even gone on to STRIKE Team (emergency calls and stat transfers only) within a few short weeks because of how well ECP trained us. ECP runs their program very professionally, and will treat you as a professional if you show respect in turn- this isn't high school anymore, people! They try to mirror the partnership and shared responsibility aspect of the EMT life- which I really liked because it translated well to the actual job. I've had partners from other programs that almost got me in trouble because they didn't learn this in their programs. So yes, if you've read the other reviews, you will be kicked out of the program if you mess around or don't keep up with deadlines. Honestly, as one of the people doing well in the class, I didn't like being dragged down by the ones who were not doing well and was actually glad when they got kicked out (especially the ones that slept in class or didn't learn anything- I wouldn't want them as partners at work!). A lot of people may whine about not having enough time to finish their assignments- but all assignments are given in the beginning of the course along with the deadlines and they take approximately an hour or less to finish. I've known other classes that completed all the assignments within a week. By the way, the tests are all designed to mirror the national exam- how questions are asked and what information is more important to know. It's pretty hard to fail the certification test if you pass all the class exams. Attrition might be low in some classes (our class lost maybe 10 out of 30 students but there has been one class of 60 I know of that only lost 4) but in the end it filters out the people that wouldn't make good EMTs for whatever reason- this is a job, after all, that people's health and lives depends on. Overall, I think ECP is one of the better programs if you're looking to become an EMT quickly but competently. I haven't noticed any difference in knowledge and skill level between this program and other programs (even FDNY's EMT program which is one year). Just be sure you're willing to make sacrifices (I.e. potentially your social life) like you would as a certified EMT.

Stay away from this business and if you must interact with this business avoid contact with Leah…read moreshe engages in deceptive, bias and bait and switch business practices. She/this business will likely waste you time in the end.... I have been a licensed HHA since 2019 by the Department of Heath and currently attend college for Social Work and am a 4.0 college student and without a doubt dodged a bullet with potentially being trained with inaccurate information and or not all of the pertinent information as it pertains to the classes. If a program fails to provide basic pertinent information such as their will be a quiz during this orientation/ interview what else are they gonna leave out... That's dangerous and creates unprepared and potentially misinformed future EMT's I was invited to attend the Senior Care sponsored EMT program Orientation/ Interview in February of 2025 it was never mentioned that I would have to take a test and upon taking that test I scored a 9/10 and was invited to continue to interview with Senior Care on another day which it was never mentioned that their is a two part interview. I ended up getting covid and was unable to attend that second interview and had sent an email and requested to reschedule that second interview however, nobody replied to me. I signed up for the next sponsored orientation and was invited to attend again Thursday, May 22nd, 2025 and attended. There was no mention yet again that I was required to take the same test that I took last time I came in less than 6 months ago, Obviously I was not aiming to score high on the same test I was aiming to simply pass which I did and got a 7/10 not knowing that that this program does not accept those that score 8 or lower which I found out literally yesterday after I pressed Leah for the truth on the phone yesterday which is bias. Upon speaking to Leah on the phone yesterday I wanted to follow up and see if they would be letting me in this sponsored class and explained to her why I scored low and to advocate for myself to start the conversation off she stated " why did you call us for this you could have sent an email" I felt like saying well i would have if you guys had replied to my last one but kept it to myself. Long story short she stated that we do not accept people into the program who score 8 or below. I argued that passing is passing and that my college GPA and my healthcare experience should trump that exam which is logical and practical argument she indicated that they would not accept and being very cloak and dagger and I asked flat out are you accepting me into this program yes or no and she stated no. My time and money was wasted traveling from Far Rockaway. This program has no respect for my time at all but in the end I do not want to be associated with with a program that engages in the shady and bias business practices but in the end it worked out for the best. A snake will always be a snake no matter how many times it sheds its skin.........

CIBBOWS is such a great find and such a supportive group. They worked with the city parks…read moredepartment to make it okay to swim in the ocean at Brighton Beach. (Coming from California, it seems unthinkable to me that the ocean wouldn't be open tot he public. There everything below the tide line is public and must have access without restrictions.) But the lifeguards were worried about people actually swimming the ocean. And they made the park comfortable that people can indeed swim. (That's the story that I've been told.) When you come to the beach, there is usually always a group of swimmers near "Grimaldo's Chair." Grimaldo was the lifeguard that helped work with the park department to make swimming okay. The first time I stumbled onto the beach, someone made sure that I put on a swim cap and googles. Someone offered me a snack coming out. Someone else gave me a tip for getting Glide to deal with the chaffing of the wetsuit. There is usually a variety of friendly people warming up with tea and chatting. Joining the club provides access to open water swim clinics and drill clinics. I've done the open water swim clinic twice. They expect you to already know how to swim and only need to learn about open water skills. I wish I had known that as a new member, you get a swim buoy, cap, and towel because I had already bought all of my gear. CIBBOS has a really cool logo actually. I cherish the stuff that I get from them. I felt a little uncertain about the need for an open water clinic. There is the ocean! Go! (Obviously, know not to fight rip tides.) However, I got a lot of value out of it, which is why I went a second time. The lecture includes all the expected topics like current and tides. There are some drills, e.g. alligator eyes for sighting. The most value that I got out of it was going in a group. Not only, do you get to make friends, but you also get used to swimming in a group. The instructor was really friendly, caring, and supportive. She also addressed all the individual needs of students. People come with a variety of backgrounds, e.g. fear challenges or being really strong in the pool but unfamiliar with the ocean. The races are highly recommendable. Apparently, it's a huge effort to put on a safe swim race. Someone told me that swim races are the most dangerous of races. They had boats and kayaks patrolling. There were swim angels to deal with less emergent issues. I felt super supported during the race. After hearing, the stories from swim angels in how they helped was very inspiring because they got so much joy out of helping people. Each sport has a certain culture around it. Some are more competitive and some are more about sharing the joy of pushing boundaries together. This one is a lot more of the latter.

I searched online and found lots of sites catering to helping people swim, but some places had a cost to them. Thats when I found the Coney Island Brighton Beach Open Water Swimmers or CIBBOWS for short. The swimmers meet on the beach every weekend at Grimaldi's chair. Its basically a lifeguard chair that looks exactly like all the others on the beach. To find the right one, find Volna Cafe on the boardwalk and basically walk straight towards the water and head towards the closest lifeguard chair. There you will see a bunch of people hanging around, putting on wetsuits or just chatting it up. A very friendly group where you can tag along for a swim. They have different distances, so swim at your own risk. If you are a beginner, they have people there to help out. To get better perks, you can join the group as a "member" and enjoy discounted swim races and group parties with fellow swim members. I'm this close to joining as I'm now a lover of swimming. If you have questions, email them as they're super friendly to answer any questions you may have.
