Yum!
Suzy B.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Pete and team at Brooklyn Square Pizza! We have been patiently awaiting your opening. I stopped in today to grab some delicious slices for lunch and enjoy my new favorite hometown pizza. Having enjoyed several of your other locations over the years, I'm very excited to enjoy the same menu of favorites, right here at home. Taking advantage of things being quiet right now because I know what will be coming ahead. I took some photos of my slices and also the new menu so we will be ready to enjoy Brooklyn Square for years to come. For those that will be checking out the new retail location, there are several tables inside and a few outside, but don't expect to find a table for a party of 6. Also you can use the Slice app to order your food for pick up or delivery. Enjoy!

Upside down
Alex M.

Anytime I'm in the area, I just have to stop for some L&B style upside down pie. The sauce is so flavorful and balanced. Pair that with the perfect crust, and you've got a pizza that knocks it out of the park. If you're not about the red sauce, give the vodka slice a try, which is a close second. Staff is friendly, service is quick, and indoor seating is plentiful. Your typical pizza joint atmosphere with not your typical pizza.

Delicious especially the 3 cheese!

I was originally going to give Brooklyn Square Pizza 4 stars based on my first visit, but today I had their 3 cheese with garlic and olive oil square pizza slice and LOVED it! I have to give this place 5 stars because that pizza was so amazing! Their Peters and upside down is also very good too! Their pizza is soft, moist, and doughy. I'm definitely adding Brooklyn Square to my rotation. I highly recommend Brooklyn Square Pizza in Manalapan!

Visited the Brooklyn Square for the first time after hearing so much about it. Tried their most famous upside down and vodka slices. The pizza was very soft but the flavors were ok. It was very basic and nothing extra ordinary. I didn't think it was worth the hype. Service was good.

Thiccccness of the upside-down Sicilian
Megan Z.

So this review is just for the upside down Sicilian dine-in, but, WOW, I LOVE this pizza! The sauce was awesome both flavor-wise and texturally (ever-so-slightly chunky, which I love), the cheese was perfectly melted, and that dough thoooooo. Very slight crisp on the bottom but overall doughy and chewy, which is EXACTLY what I like (but understand that's not everyone's preference). I love when there's some weight behind the dough and it's not just completely airy floof. Our server was also sooo friendly and even offered to move us to a larger table to help make the pizza not feel so crammed on our table even though we were just two people. A fair amount of seating inside, I would say maybe for 20ish people. It's a good thing we live so far away, otherwise, we'd probably be here once a week. Highly recommend!

Upside down square pie

Square crust pies were really good, but there was a staple (yes, like from the office supply) in my eat-in slice. Counter girl was receptive and offered me a new slice, but it was going to be from the same pie.... In my opinion they should have scrapped that whole pie for safety reasons. Staple aside, the upside down was delicious and the crust had a nice crunch. The person I was dining with had 2 slices from that pie that did not have staples, so I was just "lucky" The staple fiasco swap out did give me the opportunity to try the round pie slice. I didn't realize there was sesame seeds on the crust... not a fan as I can't eat seeds like that. The slice was thin and held up / wasn't floppy but I didn't love it though. Stick with the square pie - portnoy rated it 8.9 at the Jackson location.

The pizza wasn't bad.. I'd say a step above mid.. same with the service.. not bad but again a step above mid.. typical pizza shop.. I've had pizza in Brooklyn as well as many Brooklyn oriented spots in Nj, idk if I'd put them up there amongst the greats. But again it wasn't bad.

A guy was on social media telling me the square pizza at Brooklyn Square Manalapan is better than L&B Gardens. (Camera deadpans to my face) Better?! First, we're in Jersey and the place says Brooklyn. No shame in their game Second, how do you even say Manalapan?? I'm born and raised in Brooklyn. We invented things here! People have fond memories of Brooklyn and for me, L&B Spumoni Gardens is what I hold near and dear to my heart. Heading to the strip mall in Manalapan, I spot Brooklyn Square. I park in the back and walk inside. Just a typical pizza place that you'd find, well in Brooklyn. Jersey pizza, I have to be on guard. Jersey is famous for their "Bar pizza". It has a story, anything outside of New York is dopey to me so let them enjoy their nonsense. I go to the register and show the girl the social media picture. I'd like this slice please. Coming right up sir. I grab a nice Manhattan Soda and sit to enjoy my pizza. Alright! The pizza is good! Nice crust, the sauce isn't sweet or overpowering and the cheese is a high end blend. I hate a wet, sloppy pizza square. I have seen Dom from Difara take crust out of the pan with his bare hands. The Brooklyn-Manalapan pizza makers have the secret formula for Brooklyn pizza. Did you steal our water? Tell me!!!! Haha Listen, I'm not going to throw shade on L&B. Brooklyn Square Pizza makes a damn good slice of pizza in Manalapan. Keep your cardboard bar pizza New Jersey, make more squares.

chicken caesar salad pizza

not pictured here but also had the pepperoni sicilian slice. That was really good. Also had the chicken caesar salad slice which wasn't bad either. Great pizza here

Eggplant hero loaded up but needs some flavors... salt, pepper, garlic, and basil would help.
Rhonda D.

All in all, pretty good experience eating here the first time ever. I especially enjoyed the sesame seed crust on the pizza. My my my, how DELISH it is. If you order the eggplant beware that what it lacks in flavor it more than makes up for in presentation and size. I added some of my own seasoning once I got home and it was perfect after that... Go try this place. The server girl with the short hair and the older gentleman (chef) are very nice. Spread love, it's the Brooklyn way!

Our waiter did not come to take our order until a good 35-40 minutes after sitting, not a huge deal but a notable delay. What irritated me during dinner was we were asked if we'd like dessert while 2 people were still eating their meals, followed by the check immediately arriving- no etiquette. While paying and wrapping up the staff were directed to clear the table, this was obvious. For full drinks to be removed without asking is unacceptable. It was as if we weren't even sitting there the manner they were clearing. Again it was obvious the direction of the manager, they needed the table. Try being efficient to start instead of creating a rush at the end if overbooked and delayed. It's classier than putting a check on a table with people eating and rudely clearing drinks. Will not be returning. There is better up the road with real management and service.

We highly recommend the swordfish bites, they were literally fantastic. You can sit inside or outside, we opted for outside because they had shady little nooks where you could sit that had fans and it was so cool and comfortable. I could've sat there for hours. I ordered the crab cake sandwich; my husband ordered the fried flounder sandwich. Both came with housemade fries. I skew briny with oysters, so all of them were described thus, but there was still a tremendous range of flavors. The Wellfleets were probably our favorites, with a sweet, meaty texture along with an assertive brininess. We gilded the appetizer lily by ordering some steamed PEI mussels and clams casino, too. Dinner was a full fish-fest: I had the whole branzino, Rhonda the soft-shell crab, and Aaron the crispy skin Black Sea bass. Each of these were excellent: the branzino was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented with the head and tail intact, but on a nice small plate, making it look less like a giant meal and more of a humble fish for a hungry fella. The soft-shell crab was sweet and crunch without relying on a thick layer of breading or batter. Mission accomplished with that dish for sure. Aaron's sea bass had a nice crispy skin, as promised, and served over a small mound of risotto. Another standout: when I got fussy about our Manhattans, asking for a specific rye and vermouth, as well as the proportion of each, the server didn't miss a beat. I've had servers frown and take a lot of notes, but our man nodded knowingly with each request. (For the record, we had WhistlePig rye 10 year, which I've only ever had once before, at Knife and Fork in Atlantic City. Salt also had the 15-year-old version.)

Food selection was not replenished in the entire time we were there. Some appeared that it might have been holding since lunchtime. One of the 3 was not at temperature and may have been unplugged. No attendees to the food stations or cleaning. The Hibachi station remained unmanned for most of the stay and had a scarce supply of foods anyway; no sauces in sight for the chef. The flavor of the food I did have was extremely bland, dry and I have had better from many strip mall take out locations. I can continue to write more but if you've read this far, I'm sure you're getting my point. They also have the nerve to add a 12% SERVICE CHARGE to your bill. It feels inefficient and less appetizing than grabbing fresh cuts with tongs. That said, the Chinese food side is actually solid. The BBQ squid stands out as one of the better items, while the ribs were disappointing, too fatty and drenched in sauce. I skipped the hot pot since the meats in the fridge didn't look particularly fresh or appealing. Compared to other locations, the East Brunswick spot seems to do a better job with both quality and keeping the sushi stocked. Drinks are another weak point. The bubble teas are overly sweet and not very good, though kids will probably enjoy them. I'd come back for some of the Chinese dishes and a few sushi pieces, but overall it feels overpriced for what you get.
