We tragically lost our puppy due to what we believe was critical oversight and a failure of care at Boxford Animal Hospital. Our puppy ingested a foreign object and was showing multiple clear, classic signs of an intestinal blockage. Despite bringing him into the clinic several times as well as multiple phone calls raising our concerns, the veterinary team completely missed several key indications of a foreign body in his abdomen. Because the obstruction was not caught or diagnosed in time, our puppy's condition deteriorated, and he ultimately passed away. To make matters immeasurably worse, the practice's conduct following his death was objectionable. During multiple follow-up phone calls, the staff was condescending, showed very little sympathy for our grief, and even attempted to shift the blame onto us as owners rather than addressing their own diagnostic failures.

He growled and showed his teeth so we put a muzzle on him for the first time ever. He did not lunge or try to bite anyone. Suddenly our paperwork all says "tries to bite tech in face." Upon returning, after giving our dog trazedone, our dog was muzzled and held in a headlock again, he tried to get away scared, and on his files were marked "tried to bite" "aggressive" "bites." Our dog is the kindest sweetest boy he is a puppy and he was scared. This place hates large dogs. They are mean and arrogant. They refused to sell me medicine that I can buy on Amazon because they hate my large dog. They lie. Keep your pets away.

This is not an honest or reliable rescue group. I know there are many reputable rescue groups out…read morethere, so please do your research beforehand. My dog had many problems, which could have been avoided. We have spent thousands of dollars in the few weeks that we got our puppy and a lot of this could have been avoided if not for this rescue group's negligence. 1. Our dog came covered in fleas. He had scabs all over his body from the bites. He was not given a flea preventative treatment even though we were told that would be taken care of before he was transported to us according to the contract. Subsequently, due to flea allergies he then developed a skin infection AND ear infection a few weeks later. Our house had to be exterminated. He also developed tape worm, which dogs get from eating fleas. This ALL could have been avoided if he had been given the proper preventative flea treatment. This would have saved us a lot of money and the puppy a lot of suffering. 2. The puppy also had giardia, another intestinal parasite when we received him. According to the contract and New Hampshire law he was also supposed to test negative for this, but was not tested because "he did not show any symptoms." 3. Communication was extremely unprofessional. They would not take any responsibility for any of the issues that we had since day one with our puppy. They told me that I should "get a job" and to stop "harassing them." 4. Communication involving the transport was awful. It was extremely difficult to get any definitive answer as to when our puppy would arrive. He was supposed to arrive on a Saturday morning at 9 am. We could a phone call the Friday night before at 9 o'clock informing us they were "running 24 hours late" with no reason at all. He came instead Sunday morning with short notice. 5. I have spoken with another family who adopted our puppy's brother. This family's puppy also came with fleas and giardia. 6. I know it is difficult to know the breed of a dog when rescuing because most of the time you do not know the parents, but this group blatantly lied about our dog's breed. They told us lab/rottie mix and that the dog was going to be VERY large. I was sent 2 more pics after I had already paid and knew something was wrong because his legs were extremely short with a very long body. I inquired about this and they lied and told me it was the "angle of the camera." I said I wanted more pictures but never received any. Now that we have had our puppy for about two months, it is clear this dog is a basset hound and that he will not be a large dog. I added this complaint last because we still love our puppy unconditionally, even though he was not what he expected. I just wanted to add the last reason this group is dishonest. As you can see, there have been a multitude of problems since receiving our puppy and these problems should have been taken care of. This rescue group did not hold up their end of the deal. Unfortunately, we and our poor puppy have had to pay for it.

First off I do have to say I love my dog. Now that I've said that I'm pretty disappointed in Happy…read moreDogs of New England. I know it can be very hard to tell the breed of a rescue dog but what they told me and what she is are two completely different things. I don't care about her breed, although they told me she was a lab mix and turns out she is a beagle/pitbull mix. That part that bothers me is that they said my dog was going to be around 60-70lbs. I prepared for this, I bought a large crate, large bed, large toys, large food bowl, large breed puppy food. My dog is now 8 months old and weighs MAYBE 20 lbs. A vet would be able to estimate weight at 4 months so basically the vet was an idiot or they lied. The only thing I didn't end up exchanging was her food bowl.... The next thing they did was lie about her personality. Now I know puppies are all mostly energetic but as a rescue group they should be able to tell basic personality traits. I wanted a calm, laid-back dog. I got the complete opposite. She is very high energy, needs tons of attention, and is the most stubborn dog I've ever met and I still love her. Just not what I was told. The thing I am most upset about is fleas. It took me a little over a week to realize she had fleas and by that point she had already infected my two cats (who sleep in my bed) and the entire house. I had to bomb my house multiple times. Isn't basic dog care to apply flea & tick preventative. Especially when that dog is about to go on a transport bus with 50 other dogs? Like I said, I love my dog but I didn't like that I felt like I was lied to about who my dog really was.

While I was not "looking" for a dog, I have always been an avid animal lover and once I saw that picture I couldn't help but look into the rescue more and this puppy !! Needless to say, the staff at One Tail was informative, helpful, and amazing with their animals. Their adoption process is detailed and may take a few days longer than others, but it is due to the fact that they research and make sure each dog goes to a great and well fitting family. I was impressed that when they asked for references they actually followed-up with each one I gave!!! Which to me means not only did I take the time & put my heart into this process but they did as well! Once I received word that my application was accepted they scheduled the pick-up at a local pet-store. When I arrived they had informed me that my pup unfortunately needed to stop by the vet first since she wasn't feeling well that morning. While I was a little sad I had to wait a couple extra hours to get my little puppy home, I was so happy they took the time to make sure she was happy and healthy before sending her home! And they even offered to keep her an extra couple days at no extra cost to make sure she was ALL SET, I did however take her home that afternoon and she has been an amazing addition to my house ever since!! (for the past year :) ) One Tail is a great organization and the volunteers and employees really care about the animals they are placing, it's not just a first-come first-served situation. Great Experience overall and I would recommend (and have) using them for anyone or any family searching for a new furry addition to their home!!

The descriptions of Freya and thoughtful back and forth when I started the application process described her so clearly and perfectly. For updated reviews, please check out their Facebook page - you'll see many (positive!) reviews there. - Folks, this is a non-profit 501()(3) organization. That means it's entirely volunteer-driven. I've worked with a similar organization in Texas. Let me tell you, you have no idea how hard it is to run something like this. The challenges you deal with managing dogs, and the people fostering and caring for the dogs, and the logistics involved with transporting dogs, is extremely difficult. These people aren't doing this to make money. They're doing it because they are passionate about saving dogs' lives. And they do - they absolutely do. I've been involved with some of the dogs this place receives; they are great dogs - and all of them would have absolutely been put down had this place not been generous enough to accept them. I know sitting there reading stuff online about dog shelters and dog fostering sounds inviting - everyone thinks it's easy and that they could do it better - let me tell you, you have no idea! Rewarding, yes, but definitely not easy. - If you're reading this, and you live near them, please reach out to them and volunteer. Get involved and help out awesome places like this. They really need it - you can make a huge difference in doing anything you can to help out.

I naturally wanted to adopt (as I had rescued our first two from behind a dumpster) knowing how much rescuing means fo animals in need and myself. It wasn't what I expected from a typical shelter set up; the area for the cats were some trailers behind a building in a lot. But the facility was clean and the team trying to assist us was very lovely. It was my first time trying to adopt through a shelter and wasn't sure what to expect and I'm don't feel I did, but since it was my first experience I'm also not sure if something I did was offensive because the woman who seemed to be running the shelter wouldn't let any staff show us a single cat. There wasn't a ton of cats there but possibly around a dozen or so. She was very terse, told us all the cats were either spoken for or couldn't be adopted yet. We asked if there were any we could visit with and one staff member was about to show us the back room where he said some were up for adoption when this woman cut him off saying "no they can not see those cats". It was so odd as if she did not want us to adopt any of her cats however I'm totally baffled as to what that reason could be. Possibly just a bad day and we caught her at the wrong time? We are a couple in our 30s, friendly and polite. We both work with the public and are pretty good at being thoughtful in interactions with others. Felt perhaps she just didn't like how we looked or something and was dead set on not helping us. Felt so uncomfortable, judged and unwanted from the whole situation and I would never try to adopt from this location ever again. **I have since adopted from other shelters and had wonderful experiences**

He was only $400 and came neutered, micro chipped, and had several hundred dollars in receipts for medical care. My new favorite part of my day is when he comes back from his morning walk with his mommy. He jumps into the bed, onto my chest, and playfully attacks me. My dogs were loved, bonded with, and cared for while getting incredible training. They allowed my dogs to sleep together at night which made me feel extra comforted while they were away. I didn't know what to expect when they started and being without your dogs for that long of a time requires a lot of trust. There was so much care put into communicating with me during their time away, including occasional video updates showing me how they were progressing. I would say my dogs were pretty well behaved before going to training, but theres a lot of prejudice in the world against pitbulls. Thanks to Joe and his team I now have the confidence and comfortability going to public parks, beaches and even being in my own yard knowing that when I call they will come. They were trained to walk on and off leash and to respond to commands necessary. They came back calmer, their coats were shinier and looking healthier than ever. Not only were the dogs given the training, but Joe then took the time and care to ensure I was ready to bring them home and keep the work going. He has taken many phone calls from me with questions and continues to work with both myself, family members and my dogs post the 7 week training. I can't say enough how grateful I am for how they have cared for my dogs. I highly recommend K9 to anyone who needs boarding or training.
