Part of the facilities at Hostos Community College in the Bronx, this venue was where I found…read moremyself on a frigid winter day, attending a Lunar New Year performance headlined by the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, along with a couple other cultural acts. Walking up to the building, it's part of the Hostos campus, a couple blocks south of 149th St - Grand Concourse 4 train subway stop. For other transportation, there are bus stops and I saw street and structure parking close by. Entering the building on Grand Concourse there were staff in the foyer security area asking if visitors were there for the show, then directing them to the right which led to an open atrium. This space is open to the few floors above, which looked like classrooms and offices; on the right were a small box office and a couple doors to the auditorium. I liked how festive the atrium was decorated. The line was short to pick up to tickets, within 5 minutes of arriving I was headed to my seat. Staff was friendly inside the theater, welcoming and ready to bring each attendee to their seat. A little mixup on where my seat was located at first though easily resolved. The theatre is pretty large, with about 800-900 in cushioned seats. Although the show started about 20 minutes late, the performances went smoothly for the most part and I enjoyed the choreography snd beautiful costumes. The facilities were solid and very sufficient for the show that day. After the show, the performers came out to greet the audience in the lobby, they also had tables set up before and after the show with Chinese New Year merch. Bathrooms available.

I've been coming here since I was a kid and the production quality is top notch. They often host companies that give voice to POC. I especially love when they have ballet and flamenco performances. The theatre is not large but it's not small either (I'd guess that it sits around 400 people). I love their mission of making the arts accessible and I think more people should take advantage of this great resource.

Located deep in The South Bronx, Art Space was opened in the 90s with their mission to show the work of emerging artists. When I first visited Bronx Art S. back in 2019, the person gave me some of his own Brooklyn back up info and said he "saw" something in The Bronx so decided to start a creative forum where artists come together and share their passion. To shed some light in The Bronx art world, many things take center stage- but focus is placed on the community, its people, diversity and the Bronx's heritage as a whole. However, this is only part of what Bronx Art Space has to offer- because their art education classes and projects are also on the spotlight. Bronx Art Space (pre-Corona) had free exhibits, also offered music performances and poetry. So when things get back to our real normal, check on price for music events and one-person shows.

However, I came across this show on Goldstar and thought it would be an excellent idea. The small theatre located in East Harlem was a wonderful experience. I wasn't sure what to expect due to the size of the venue and when we arrived the ticket line was a bit disorganized, but that was basically the sole negative. As I have never seen the "Wizard of Oz" this was going to be a new experience for myself and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The acting was pretty good and I enjoyed the comedy throughout the show and live band that was on the left side of the stage. My family was pleased and enjoyed the show-- as it's a small intimate venue the cost was extremely low but they still delivered a quality product. The characters also stayed late to take pictures with any and everybody.-- thanks again Scarecrow and Dorothy. I would definitely venture here again, and have interest in watching "A raisin in the sun" here next month, once it starts up again.

I only wished they had mics, and there was a point when someone was "slapped" on stage, but there was no sound. Also, you can very much hear all of the sounds of traffic and talking from outside the theater, especially if you sit higher up, but this also happens in some really nice theaters in Midtown. Sound issues aside, there aren't any "bad" seats in the house. The energy and love of acting are apparent here. That makes up for some shortcomings: a location inside a nondescript tower, a theater that eschews ornate decorations for practical seating, and a neighborhood that can be a tad "lively." I'll definitely be back and will continue to bring people. Thank you HRT for providing theater at an affordable price to an area that may not normally get the opportunity. Tip: The theater sells a lot of tickets discounted through Goldstar.

The staff member recommended a CD, however when I got home and removed the shrink wrap, the CD inside did not match the outside of the CD (still great music nonetheless). Staff member recommended that I check out a different record store in East Harlem (El Barrio?) which has a larger selection of vinyl records.
