Walking up to the building, it's part of the Hostos campus, a couple blocks south of 149th St - Grand Concourse 4 train subway stop. For other transportation, there are bus stops and I saw street and structure parking close by. Entering the building on Grand Concourse there were staff in the foyer security area asking if visitors were there for the show, then directing them to the right which led to an open atrium. This space is open to the few floors above, which looked like classrooms and offices; on the right were a small box office and a couple doors to the auditorium. I liked how festive the atrium was decorated. The line was short to pick up to tickets, within 5 minutes of arriving I was headed to my seat. Staff was friendly inside the theater, welcoming and ready to bring each attendee to their seat. A little mixup on where my seat was located at first though easily resolved. The theatre is pretty large, with about 800-900 in cushioned seats. Although the show started about 20 minutes late, the performances went smoothly for the most part and I enjoyed the choreography snd beautiful costumes. The facilities were solid and very sufficient for the show that day. After the show, the performers came out to greet the audience in the lobby, they also had tables set up before and after the show with Chinese New Year merch. Bathrooms available.

I've been coming here since I was a kid and the production quality is top notch. They often host companies that give voice to POC. I especially love when they have ballet and flamenco performances. The theatre is not large but it's not small either (I'd guess that it sits around 400 people). I love their mission of making the arts accessible and I think more people should take advantage of this great resource.

Sanders, Billy Eugene Jones, David Krumholtz and other Masters of their craft and the very compelling and poignant "Are You Now or Have You Ever Been", a 1972 docudrama play by Eric Bentley. The show was in Stage I; we sat in the very last row, Row M, seats 101 & 102 and I can honestly say they were great seats. Save some money and rest assured you'll still have a great view of the show. Theater and stages are accessible by stairs and an elevator. I look forward to returning to see other off-Broadway and varied shows here. Street parking is available.

Some of my favorite theater experiences have been from their Encores series, including their gala productions where brilliant casts come together with about 1-2 weeks of rehearsal to perform Broadway concert style productions, complete with a full orchestra, staging, choreography and costumes. The shorter engagements allow actors to appear in shows that might fit in between other long term contracts, with tv, film, or concerts. Some Encores I've seen: La Cage aux Folles, Urinetown, Light in the Piazza, Oliver!, Into the Woods, Parade, Sunday in the Park, Evita, Brigadoon, Merrily We Roll Along, etc. Productions like Chicago, Into the Woods, Sunday in the Park, Parade, Once Upon a Mattress and Ragtime have had successful Broadway transfers from City Center. Their mission: To be an accessible and inclusive center for the arts, reflecting the energy of New York City. Encores was designed to preserve the legacy of American musical theater. Note that acoustics can be tricky depending on where you sit.

If you are 30 years old or younger, you are able to purchase tickets to the ballet for $30. You can register online ahead of time, but know that our IDs never seemed to get approved online, so we still had to go in person to purchase the tickets. You are able to only purchase two tickets under your name and you must have your ID with you for this program. We went for the Balanchine + Wheeldon show which was incredible. First of all, this theater is beyond beautiful. It was a really rainy night, but the beauty of this theater helped me forget how wet we were from the rain. You are able to take stairs or an elevator to your floor. The ushers were extremely kind and helpful. The seats themselves were pretty comfortable. I love how angled the seating was. As a shorter person, this can really obstruct my view, but the overly angled seating helped remedy this. The ballets themselves were incredible. Each one better than the next. It was such a magical night. I highly recommend visiting the this ballet.

The staff were friendly and helpful, making the entire experience smooth and enjoyable. I sat in the First Ring, Row C. While I would've preferred Row A, those seats sell out very quickly, so I definitely recommend purchasing early. Overall, I felt the tickets were worth the price. The dedication and hard work these ballet dancers put in much of which we don't see behind the scenes make the final performance even more impressive. Truly a memorable night.

In 1989 the building opened as a Loews Cineplex multiplex. It was redeveloped in 2002 from the six-screen cinema to a five-stage theater. Going through several operators It's now owned by the Shubert Organization. The show I saw was nothing short of hysterical, "The Play That Goes Wrong." Clever script, talented cast, great set -- what you see on stage is NOT what you get -- two hours of slapstick. The only fault I found was the timing of two neighboring stages. Both shows let out the same time with a hoard of people heading toward the exit. BTW, the venue is handicapped compliant with both an elevator and escalator. A woman with a large therapy dog sat behind me. When I turned my face I was eye-to-eye with Fido! But he was a 'good boy' and I didn't mind.

Very well organized. For this particular show my sister brought a bouquet of flowers from home but she had to leave them outside by the staircase and pick them up after the show. So if you bring flowers just be aware that you cannot bring them inside the theater. The bathrooms were clean and the location is great as you have some restaurants nearby.

The theater is comfortable, beautifully renovated, and intimate (although the acoustics can be tricky if you do auditions there! It's rather dead.). Performances generally are solid, production values are good, and all in all, they usually do a nice job with whatever opera they are producing, and they choose some interesting pieces here and there. Ticket prices have gone up quite a bit over the years -- tickets for the operas will set you back $55 (vs. Met weekend prices: Front Family Circle: $42; Balcony is $80 -- sure you are up high, but it's the MET!). The last opera I attended had a ticket price of $35 .... and I considered that high, as I could go to the Met for less. Still can, obviously.....

I loved how the actors didn't use microphones and the sound from the orchestra was pure and sweet! I feel like there wasn't a bad seat in the house, and the seats were actually comfortable! Bravo Dicapo! I had such a positive experience attending their performance, that I can only imagine how one of their Operas would look and sound!
