I decided to post something today because this month makes one year that I've been training at BMAA. One year ago, I found myself in a bad place in life without many friends or family. I was miserable and felt I was living without a purpose. No matter what I tried things would not work out because I felt down on myself. Fighting is all I've known since I was a kid so I thought Jiu Jitsu might bring me joy. I was never so wrong because the moment I came into BMAA and took professor Johnson's class I began to be choked and even more humbled in life. But this has been a more rewarding humbling because of what I learned. And I don't mean in any physical strength or skill. The professors and staff at the academy have helped me deal with the awkwardness and distrust I have towards people because of my experiences. Being in an environment with people who are there to better themselves yet willingly want to help you get better is more rewarding than any gym or work out class can give you. Getting to be able to watch a Jiu Jitsu class being taught by John Danaher or training with professors who were pro fighters like Joey Hernandez is priceless. And there's enough sharks in this tank to satisfy any skill level if your willing to learn or humble yourself. Things have gotten better for me and I thank BMAA for their part in it. What set this school apart from the others was the community of people. The administrative team and the teachers have cultivated an amazing school culture. You feel it as soon as you walk through the doors. As a father, i wanted my kids to be a part of it. I wanted them involved in fitness, discipline, character building, honor, tradition, and self defense. I wanted to expose them to a higher standard of personal growth and spiritual development. BMAA is meeting and EXCEEDING my expectations. After a few weeks of watching my kids in class, and observing the teachers and the students, i couldn't resist... I HAD TO JOIN! I have been attended this academy for six years now, and I love it. I have trained in many places, and I can honestly say that this dojo a jewel in the world of martial arts. The whole dojo is cleaned multiple times a day. When I train at 7 am, someone is cleaning. 8:30 pm, there is someone cleaning. They take it seriously. The instruction is out of this world. I came here thinking I knew something about BJJ, until sitting in class and watching the precision of the technical direction. It helps to know that you will learn something the best way. Now, as a parent, I just started taking my son to karate, and he loves is. I catch him practicing throughout the day without prompting from me. He loves the instructors, students, and the feel of the school. It is a very family-oriented facility, so before he was even able to train, he would come in and play and get to know people. He loves it, and it helps his ability to focus, listen to detail, and eventually protect himself. Signing up at the Bronx Martial Art Academy is the best investment of my last six years. read more

Updated below! ------------------ I wrote my original review because i was encouraged to do so within my first week of joining. I quit the gym after observing obscene behavior from the instructors (inside and outside the gym). I no longer feel this is a good OR SAFE place to train. This is not a reflection on the Renzo Gracie organization but on the management of Bronx Martial Arts, as they are very aware of the behavior of their Instructors and seem to not care about "good moral character". Several of their instructors seem to think their workplace is a dating site and use their positions of power to influence and date their students. This is absolutely unacceptable of any business. How do you justify teaching good moral character but you allow instructors to prey on young impressionable women looking to improve their health and minds? read more

I have travelled to a lot of martial arts schools all over the world and in particular the USA. Professor Doug has THE best level of training I have had the experience of partaking. The facility is clean, professional and extremely well set up. Added to this, there is a very welcoming environment from the students along with a very HIGH level of training and expertise. Professor Doug is an absolute beast but also an absolute professional who can show you more about your Jiujitsu game in one roll than some coaches can over a year. The membership was not cancelled and they keep charging my credit card, i reported it to my financial institution and they stopped the payment, they sold my debt to a collection agency and took it to court (i was not notified), they contacted my employer and tried to get my money straight from them. I did not use their service for more than a month and i was charged for a full year. WORST PLACE EVER! Worst place ever to train. Keep in mind, It is the Bronx! a lot of people just go to hurt you and not to learn or improve. I cancelled my membership with them due to disliking the place/staff/environment and schedule. I went to roll with these guys on thanksgiving day for an open mat workout. They were very friendly , everyone was willing to help and show me moves. Professor Doug is incredible he rolled with everyone even me. He is an awesome technician . Very knowledgable and all his students are very good and all in great shape . It was like family. I seen blackbelts in many styles from years ago training at the bmma. This school is awesome , the nicest school I've ever seen and the these students are tuff . I give it five stars. read more

My daughter is gaining so much confidence since she is been learning karate. I love the environment , the senseis are caring , gentle, strict and so profesional with children that I highly recommend the academy , if you have a little child that has interest in learning a discipline this is just the right place!!! Spotless new facility. Amazing instructors. knowledgeable friendly staff. Huge mat space. Early morning and evening classes which is good to fit any schedule. Clean large men's and women's locker rooms. Awesome high quality gear sold on the premises. Close to nyc and westchester. I am in Love with this school. They are firm, fair and disciplined. Their teaching style is old school martial arts. I am mad that I did not know about this school sooner. If your child is unfocused, hyper and needs a little bit more structure in their life BRING THEM HERE. If your child is being bullied BRING THEM HERE. Bronx Martial Arts Academy is the best place to join. Period. If you're looking for some exercise to get into shape, enter competition or just recreational activity - they have top level instructors for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Shotokan Karate, and Muay Thai. Staff is super friendly and helpful. They take cleanliness very serious and as a result the dojo is the cleanest dojo I have ever been to. read more

My son has been going here and we both love it. Staff is very friendly and attentive to students. Instructors teach discipline not only inside the dojo but outside as well, they teach them to respect elders, peers, and teachers at school. Amazing place to bring your children and to train for yourself. Especially now while our kids are remote learning and need to get some exercise. Professor Johnson is great as the kids BJJ Instructor and Justin the program director is very professional and explains the the various programs thoroughly. My son is taking BJ here and this is an amazing place. The classes are very well organized and even though the classes are large, they all learn so much and build up their technical skills. They are focused on discipline and staying focused while educating the students in anti bullying skills and that BJJ isn't something they use in other kids. read more
