The new management is awesome to work with! We had some issues in the start but the communication has gotten easier and better by 10x

Since living here we have gone through several new housing management. They are terrible with follow up, and putting in maintenance request is a waste of time. They try to pin it on you, and say your responsible for fixing everything . I've been given reassurance about keeping the garage till my case is closed with the insurance company because otherwise the tow company comes through and tows my car when I was given permission from Heather to keep it. It's such a mess, and lack of communication here, especially when I'm busy at work. Maintenance has entered our apartment without any communication before as well, and needs to be addressed. The dust in the ducts need to be professionally cleaned out it's bad for my health, and I've heard a rumor from one of the past neighbors that the reason they left was because of the mold, and they were not wanting to clean it up but cover it up. The dog poo outside is ridiculous no one cleans up after their animals, thank you to the ones who do. The hallways in the building are just as disgusting. Before we had these cleaners that would come in every once in a while, and now we don't have anyone come out with the new manger's involved. There is dog pee stains and graffiti and the paint jobs the maintenance people have done looks horrendous. You need a professional to come out, and clean the walls and repaint not just cover up stains it looks real shitty and especially when they have me paying as much as I do for my space. The hallways always reek and it's been addressed, and never fixed. I'm not one to complain but with living here as long as I have it's ridiculous at least when I first moved in the first housing managers actually got stuff done Shannon was a great help for me. Hopefully the new housing lady will realize, and help follow up and get stuff done. Maybe put a pool in because the other amenities you guys offer are not the best. read more

Hubbell Realty Company owns the apartment community Broadway Heights in Des Moines, IA, where me, my wife, and six month old son live. I believe the building was ready in July 2014, and we moved to Broadway Heights the second week of September, 2014. Hubbell also manages the building through their property management company, Hubbell Property Management. Since July 2014 when Broadway Heights was ready to move in, it has gone downhill, and fast. From the exterior, as well as interior, it is a fairly nice looking place to live; it's just very poorly managed. Broadway Heights is supposed to be a non-smoking community, but since around October a resident, or residents (especially on the third floor), have been enjoying all of the cancer sticks they please; with absolute impunity. The third floor CONSTANTLY smells of fresh smoke. Our apartment UNIT even smells like smoke at all hours of the day, DAILY. Unbeknownst to the smoker(s), but we are literally being harassed by their secondhand smoke. I personally spoke to the property Manager for Broadway Heights, she has told me on numerous occasions that she "can't do anything." It is more like they are unwilling to do anything. I understand you cannot be in the building 24/7, but since I have lived at Broadway Heights, I have NEVER saw the property manager in our building, not once. Not even to investigate who is smoking in our building. It's as if Hubbell Property Management could care less who breaks the rules to their lease; and there is certainly more evidence that they do not care. How so? Again, someone in the building at Broadway Heights is smoking with impunity. The smoke infiltrates our unit. Our son is six months old and likely breathing secondhand smoke. We do not smoke and never have. Hubbell Property management looks the other way. My wife emails Hubbell Realty's corporate office, not once, but THREE times. No reply. My wife calls Hubbell's corporate office and gets put through to Derek Hague's voicemail. She leaves a message regarding the issue. No return phone call. My wife posted about the smoking issue on Hubbell Realty's Facebook page. The Facebook posts are promptly deleted within two minutes. Secondhand smoke invading other apartment units at Broadway Heights has been going on since October and we are not the only tenants who have complained. People move to a non-smoking community for a reason. if the aforementioned lack of response on Hubbell Apartments' part is anything else, I would love to hear it. Hubbell Property Management is completely negligent in my opinion; smoking can increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome, one's risk for asthma, as well as other respiratory illnesses. I can't understand Hubbell Apartments' complete lack of regard for the health, safety and general well being of their tenants. I didn't want to write this review about Hubbell Apartment Living, or their property management company that manages Broadway Heights, but our concerns about secondhand smoke are going unheeded. Potential tenants need to know that Broadway Heights is NOT smoke free since Hubbell Apartment Living chooses to look the other way regarding smoking on the property, and in their units. Hubbell Apartment Living's lack of integrity is alarming. Who knows what other rules they will look the other way on. I know this is virtually the only review of any Hubbell Apartment Living community, but with all of the "lawlessness" that goes on at Broadway Heights in Des Moines, IA, it won't be long until other tenants figure out that Hubbell Property Management is one of the worst property management companies in Des Moines, IA, and that Hubbell Apartment Living is one of the worst places to live in Des Moines, IA. Broadway Heights was my first ever rental. The management is absolutely amazing, the location is great, rent is fairly priced and the apartments are modern! Everything is up-to-date and works great. Maintenance is wonderful and gets things done soon after you enter a service request. The management is always right there to help you with any questions or concerns. Neighbors are friendly and typically keep to themselves. I love living here, and definitely plan on renewing my lease come May! ​ read more

If I could give them zero stars I would Broadway Heights is the WORST apartments I've ever stayed out I haven't been able to get ahold of them in over two weeks and the rental office is always closed , they NEVER answer the phone the amenities that they offer are NEVER available and not because they're in use but because they give us a keyprob then lock them door and we have to call which they never answer even if you reserve in advance, the maintenance suck even tbough we have maintenance that live on site things don't get done in a timely matter , took them 2 weeks to change a light bull and over a week to fix my toilet and there parking is absolutely trash highley not recommended to live here read more

We love our Apt. ,The management usually does everything they can to solve issues In a timely manner..not so happy with some of the neighbors but property and apartments are great..I would recommend. read more

Broadway Heights did a great job of making our decision to not renew our lease so easy. They had a complete lack of urgency, professionalism and communication regarding multiple matters. They tried to tell us AFTER we signed our lease that they had a pet policy stating that dogs must be one year or older in order to have them in the complex. We were never once informed nor saw this policy during the time of signing our lease. My husband and I would have never signed the lease in the first place if we had been given that information from the beginning as we had a deposit in for an 8 week old puppy months before we even started to search for a new apartment. Upon signing the lease, we were also told that the pet policy included a $350 pet deposit with $250 of that being refundable. Once it was finally approved that we could have the puppy per the information we were given and we brought our puppy home, the management then dropped on us that the pet policy had been changed since the signing of our lease and they now no longer accepted a deposit that was refundable but now was changed to a $250 fee. This change in policy was never once communicated and was sprung on us after we brought our puppy home. Upon being told we had to pay the $250 non-refundable fee, we inquired about that fee being pro-rated due to the fact there was only 3 months left in our lease agreement. We were told no and that the full fee was required for the short remainder of our stay. We had nothing but issues concerning our dog and all of it could have been avoided with better communication. But that was not the only issue that we had. After moving out in early September I had inquired about the process of getting our deposit returned. My husband and I were told at that time that our final water bill was taken from that deposit and paid by the property. Not a big deal but again a lack of communication as that was never explained when we started the process. Once receiving the security deposit and the itemized breakdown, it was shown that the property took an additional $75 for "texturing and painting". Not only did my husband and I fill every single hole we made in the apartment (small nail/screw holes from hanging pictures and décor) but we spent over 3 hours the final night there cleaning the entire place. I inquired about this charge over a week ago to both members of management and have yet to receive a response. It has now been over a week since the inquiry was made. And finally there is a huge lapse in the rules being in place and actually being enforced. A few examples would be the piles of trash constantly laying all over the grounds, sidewalks, and parking lots, the people that felt the need to go ungodly speeds through the parking lots and the smell of drugs we encountered a majority of the time when we entered our building. This has been by far my worst experience ever renting and I would not ever recommend using a Hubbell Reality managed complex, I know that I certainly won't ever again. read more
