Being atheists, my husband and I had some trouble finding a venue when we got married. We may not have wanted a ceremony in a church but we still wanted a formal indoor venue that wasn't a court room or a hastily decorated conference room.
The Broadway Chapel is a Gothic building erected in 1884 and has housed Congregational, Presbyterian, Methodists, Uniting and Spanish Baptist worshippers amongst its rich history. The Church closed in 1980s and did not re-open again until 2003 when it was renovated and put to good use as a chapel for both civil and religious ceremonies.
It is now a Heritage listed building and still contains much of the original features such as the pipe organ, baptismal font and murals. I'm not sure how many people the chapel can host. I had about sixty people at the ceremony and we did find that the garden outside the chapel got a bit cramped during photos.
So for small to medium sized weddings, I'm certain many couples will find Broadway Chapel the perfect leaping off point to start their adventures.
NB: The chapel is not regularly opened to the public. Please call ahead of time to arrange a private viewing time. read more
