This review is mainly focused on their deli/sushi section of the store…read more I stop in this location regularly to grab items to make dinner or a quick grab of a few items. They generally have easy parking. I was especially happy on a night this month that we were having a birthday dinner for my daughter. She decided that she'd like a sushi night. Instead of trying to get trays, last minute, from a restaurant I ran into Fred Meyer to see what they had to offer. They had some great options ready made!! I chose a bunch of different trays and headed home to make a dinner spread. We added rice and pan fried noodles made at home and it was a great birthday dinner. Everyone was happy and a big bonus, that I ALWAYS worry about with raw fish items, no one had any upset stomachs. I've always been happy with meats, cheeses, grab and go items, and now the sushi from this specific store.

The walk-in beer cooler is accessible from both sides of the store and the selection of beer, cider, and wine was extraordinary! They had a variety of local and non-local, and all price points so you definitely have options depending on your mood. There were a ton of produce and fresh food options that I saw as well, even though we didn't purchase anything from those. I never caught the cashier's name, but she was a shorter, dark haired lady and was so so nice! She talked to me about my wine option and reassured my choice was a good one! Definitely recommend stopping here whether you're passing through, camping, or enjoying a beach getaway!

I appreciate having an occasional glass of wine, and expect that it's difficult to find a quality wine selection in a small town that probably depends very heavily upon the tourist trade. Frankly, most towns known for heavy tourist traffic usually don't do well when it comes to what they stock in wines -- they usually aren't that impressive. I was truly shocked to see an excellent selection of highly-rated wines, especially for domestic Cabernet Sauvignon. If you enjoy having an excellent wine, this is the place to find it.

Sept, 2024. We were visiting the Whispering Woods Resort in Welches, Oregon and stopped by the…read moreHoodland Thriftway to pick up some groceries that we'd need for the week. This grocery store, and only this store, were convenient to the resort. My understanding is that Sandy, Oregon, 15 miles away, has a Safeway, a Fred Meyer, and other shopping options. Selection was quite good for a relatively small mountain store, and we found everything that was on our grocery list. However, we were shocked by the prices, which appeared to be significantly higher than we expected for almost every item that we looked at. Fresh fruits and vegetables were especially high. For example, a single yellow bell pepper was $3.29. Bananas were $1.19/pound. While in the store, my husband asked me whether we should get an apple cider for about $6. When we got home, we were shocked to see that we were charged $13.69 for the cider. It's possible that the $6 sign referred to a smaller size. Also of concern, we found that some items that were on sale through their weekly circular or Managers Specials did not go through at their sale prices -- specifically bread (overcharged $1) and potato chips (also $1 over). On the positive side, we did find a few well-priced items, including frozen pizza (sale), sausage links (sale), and goat cheese. The check-out cashier was efficient and friendly enough. Parking was plentiful and free. Note that we also didn't see a Customer Service counter. We wanted to ask whether we needed to get a customer loyalty card to get sale prices. The cashier confirmed that they would be automatic. We would still probably return if we needed only a few items, but we'll be going to Sandy for larger shopping trips.

This place reminded me of the small grocery store my family frequented when i was a child many years ago. Chester's is a great, slightly small, full service market with prices that are not sky high. The produce section was actually very well stocked, as were the meat and seafood areas. In short, my grand daughter and i found everything we needed and didn't have to leave town to do so. The store was clean, and well stocked and organized. The staff was friendly and helpful as well. It was very easy to find, and the large parking lot made it easy to get in and out of.
