I spent every Summer at the neighboring ranch so I know the rainbow trout fishing well along the Rio Grande River. I played with my grandfather on the sandy beach beside the river. He made crosses once and told us Spanish conquistadors were buried there.
I spent hours fishing in the river off the rocks and sitting on the porch during the afternoon rain showers.
When I was about 5, I fell in the pond at Broadacres head first while my mother spoke with Mrs Collarette but one of the cowboys pulled me out before I drowned. Boy it was cold.
We would reserve horses for a family trail ride up a ranch trail with Ellis and those horses would be quite slow going up and much faster going back to the barn.
