Ludlow has a reputation as a foodie town, and is part of the Slow Food movement that started in Italy. You would therefore expect its deli to be good, and this one doesn't disappoint. There are two large chilled counters. These have a good range of things in bowls, such as feta stuffed peppers and many varieties of olives. There are good cheeses including Mrs Kirkham's Lancashire, great Caerphilly and the local Shropshire blue, plus some less well known cheeses from Herefordshire and other parts of the Marches. There is a good range of Patchwork pates, both meat and vegetarian, and some other chilled savouries and meats. The shelves stock condiments, jams and seasonings, plus rice, pasta, sauces and other staples. There is a small freezer cabinet stocking ice cream, and some frozen offerings from Patchwork. The staff are friendly and helpful, and happy to offer up tasters, so you can buy with confidence.

The owner runs this location and a few other shops, plus hosts food tents at festivals during Christmas. She came over to our table and made some wine recommendations and gave us a bowl of crisps on the house. My partner, Seth S., and I both ordered the Pinot Noir from Romania. It was delightfully full-bodied and smooth. The lighting is dimmed just enough to encourage good conversation and a comfortable atmosphere. There are two main rooms for seating, each with groupings of chairs or booths around bistro style tables. The art and decor feel like a brasserie. Its a wonderful deli, on the High Street in Boldmere, with outdoor seating - which is superb when the sun comes out! The breakfasts are awesome. Superb sausages, great bacon, exceptional bread, (the deli sells some of the best bread in Birmingham). 2 succulent sausage, 2 bacon, fried egg, 2 half tomatoes, mushrooms. toast, quality butter. Be prepared to linger outside if the shop is full, and to breathe in when you squeeze your way out. It might be easier to focus on what the Mousetrap doesn't stock as the cheese inventory is so vast. I love the Y Fenni, Little Hereford (which is handmade in Monkland), and the brine-bathed and crumbly Monkland. Everything we have bought from here has been in perfect condition, You can also go to the dairy itself, which is set on Pleck Farm near Leominster. Pickles and chutneys are also available in the shop, but for beer and cider you will need to visit the Hereford or Leominster branches.
