Jorge worked hard to find fish on a choppy-water day and came through when we caught a large kingfish that took about 20 minutes to reel in. Jorge cleaned the fish, cut out filets for us, and arranged lunch at a nearby restaurant. The fish and lunch were fantastic! Jorge struck me as a first class person and great captain. Will arrange my next Miami fishing trip with him again.

I mustered the courage to hook the frozen squid but once the fish came up, I'd be damned if my hands went anywhere near it. Then there came Steve. My new fishing buddy took me out to this pier just down the street from my house. Like adventurous (and trespassing) teens, we hopped the dumpster and jumped over the fence. Only 10 yards away, an obvious entrance to the apartment building welcomed everyone else without the wits to illegally enter. Nevertheless, there we were on the short hike to the pier on the bay. The scene was quiet and serene with only the rapping of the tide against the low seawall. As dusk turned to night, Steve and I settled in as the only two fisherpeople casting our hooks to sea. Steve's friend claimed to catching a 20 pound tarpon only weeks earlier. For us, the only fish looking to sample bait happened to be baby snapper and grunts. Every catch went back to the water and as I huddled close to my hoodie and took in the low glow from the pier lights, I loved every second of my little adventure with Steve and thought I could be anywhere but 5 minutes from my house.

The good: This was a 3-4 star experience. I booked a…read moresnorkeling tour for 2 for my husband's birthday thru their website. It was easy to book and they had lots of availability. The best part of the trip was how we had the boat exclusively to ourselves! I didn't know it'd be a private tour until the day I came. So, the boat was just a total of 3 people (captain included). The water temperature was great and the clarity was decent. We even saw two dolphins! You meetup at Whiskey Joe's at the marina and you can start your excursion immediately. I liked that you didn't need to wait around much. I was able to see some cool looking fish, a bottom feeder and a crab. You get 2 hours for the snorkeling and you're not required to wear any life vests (in fact, we weren't offered any and I didn't see any). The water is super shallow so it didn't seem dangerous at all. The water is also salty and easy to float in. The boat was nearby the main snorkeling area. The bad: The area for snorkeling was pretty small. It was an artificial reef where the fish were but outside of that area there is just seagrass and there's no living things to observe. The website says snorkeling starts at $75/pp and up but that's misleading b/c that's only the price if you have 8+ people. When I came to the marina, the worker who had me sign paperwork said that "$25/hour tip is required" when I got an email saying 15% tip is optional. My husband clarified and he said "yes, it's required" but later retracted his statement after I clarified that it was strange to give tip upfront before we even went on the excursion. However, I did already give 15% tip upfront on 50% of the value and then Zelled an additional $25 tip to the captain himself afterward. The cost for snorkeling ended up being $407 for 2 people (pricey). The interesting: The captain swam with us to lead us to the reef and then swam back and was mostly on his phone.

He was kind enough to put me in touch with Captain Mo, and I cant imagine having a better guide. My wife and I made the drive down from Lauderdale, with the plan to sight fish for bonefish and permit- something I'd never done before. We've fished all over North America, but I've never had more difficulty than I did with bones. Guess my eyesight was terrible that day, and my casting wasn't great either. Didn't get a thing, and when I asked what else we could target, Mo suggested barracuda. Caught more than our share of them, mixed in with a shark or two. We only had four hours, but it was outstanding. Couldn't blame Mo for me not being able to hit the fish he put us on! Mo is a knowledgeable guide, and more importantly, a great guy. He made the day very enjoyable, and I'll definitely give him a call when we are back in town!

We were certainly disappointed in that, but that's how it goes sometimes. This is an older 45 foot Hatteras. Good looking boat but it certainly has got some age on it. There were no matter chemical problems of course and the boat has a very nice and smooth ride. All the tackle which is provided for the $750 half-day trip is included. We bought our own refreshments, but upon arrival to the boat the ice chest was already full of refreshments for enjoyment. That was very thoughtful and appreciative. We will certainly use this boat again in the future. Check in on yelp before you pay. There is a $50 discount for those who check in. This will reduce the $750 half-day trip down to 700.

Whether you sit on a bench or the rocks and watch the big ships and cruises pass by, watch the palm trees blow in the breeze, watch the lizards scurry around, or watch people jogging around or doing yoga, it's a serene time. There are plenty of trees, and there's a lovely path to the pier where you see a bunch of needlefish in the water. I passed by a playground and what I believe is a shop as well. There's even a fancy looking restaurant that overlooks the water that I bet is worth a visit! Depending on where I stayed next time, I may become a regular at this park during my visits.
