Even though it might not be quite as good as Bristol's Park Street there are two shops you should really take a look at; Jack & Danny's and The Yellow Shop. The Yellow Shop is as fun, bright and interesting as its name suggests. For a vintage shop it's well organised into tidy rows which are easy to navigate. The stock doesn't change very often, so I tend to make a visit every couple of months or so. But if you love, eighties t-shirts, seventies shoes and sixties dresses this is the place for you. The prices range dramatically here so if you dig deep enough you should be able to find a bargain or two. They also welcome donations, so if you're having a clear out - be sure to pop along.

You'll find stuff ranging from the 60's to present day - some of it's not technically vintage, but it's got the same kind of vibe. The more obviously trendy (and expensive) stuff is located as you walk in at the front of the shop, but if you're on the look out for a bargain then head down to the basement level, where there are tonnes of items on rails and in boxes that you can spend a good half hour, or so, rifling through. If you're into vintage fashion then you should definitely check this place out.

Even though it might not be quite as good as Bristol's Park street there are two shops you should really take a look at; The Yellow Shop and Jack & Danny's. Jack & Danny's looks and smells every inch a typical retro clothing store. The shop is so jammed packed with dressed, jackets, shoes and bags that their rails literally explode onto the street outside. This is literally floor to ceiling vintage heaven. You need strong arms and a whole lot of patience to push back the clothes and discover a gem, but if you take the time you'll hopefully find something you love. The ladies who work at Jack & Danny's are perfectly pleasant, but they're there to pick out the best fashion available, not to make idle chit chat (so if friendly service is what you're after - you're better off at The Yellow Shop). The prices aren't cheap, but the clothes are quality with a leather jacket setting you back around £45.

The Yellow Shop is quite clean and modern looking, housing trendy garments for youthful hipsters, both vintage and otherwise. Jack & Danny's on the other hand, is quite an Aladin's cave, with vintage clothing, costumes and other random bits and pieces piled high up to the ceiling. There's a distinct musty smell to the place, a bit like an old loft, but that makes it a whole lot more interesting in my books. I like the idea that if you dig around for long enough you might unearth something that no-one's even seen for the last ten years. However, If you're looking for a quick and easy shopping experience, then this probably isn't the place for you.

Racks are overburdened to the point that if you manage to pull something out, you will not be able to shove that hanger back in. The shop pieces are mostly better for women than men, unless you're looking for nice blazer, jacket, or costume. There are quite a few nice menswear pieces in there. And if you have a specific style in mind, for example, a nice tweed, the the owner lady definitely has some kind of mental catalog of her stock. So if you feel overwhelmed, she can pick some stuff out for you if she has an idea of what you're looking for. Prices aren't the cheapest, but this place is a treasure trove of vintage one-offs if that means any added value to you. Also, no price tags. She prices items as you ask her. From what I gather, it depends on the age and value of the brand.

You will need to rumage as there are bundles of clothes EVERYWHERE and only really space for 3 people to stand. Antiques on High has the proper smell of old things and has an interesting range of antiques. Rather than focusing on big pieces of furniture, which so many antique shops do, it uses its space wisely to host: Jewellery, books, records, clothes, ornaments, pictures, maps and various collectables. The condition of the goods varies, but they're priced fairly reasonably. I find it's best to go in without the aim of buying something in particular, but just to browse. I can't say anything has ever caught my eye enough to want to buy it, but I've seen plenty of other people who have found the perfect addition to their home or the ideal gift. The best bit is the craft section, where there's a gallery of jewellery, leather, pottery, glass and art in general, all produced locally and all promising to be valuable antiques in the future. There's a great range in here and you can get something for less than a pound or spend hundreds of pounds. Equally, you can pop in for a few minutes or spend hours browsing - it's almost like a mini museum. If you like antique shops, this won't disappoint; if you've never been in one, try approaching it. Don't be put off by the prison-like bars in the windows; the staff are friendly and it's a different world inside.
