Unique places like this put me in the mood to splurge and that's what I did! I mean, if I'm going to try a new place known for certain items I might better try them! Having tea was a must here. For $3 you get your own personal tea pot with your choice of loose tea and a beautiful tea cup. I understand all the tea cups are donated which is super cool! Be forewarned, there are so many flavors of tea you may want to study the menu ahead of time. And you may need a lesson in the proper way to pour your tea (like my friend and I did). For my lunch I chose the special of the day which was a ham and Swiss sandwich on a sweet bread. Such a mix of unique flavors that hit the spot. Their sandwiches come with soup but I wanted to try the coleslaw and you can get it instead of the soup. If you like coleslaw, this one is a must try! The other thing that is a must have is their salted caramel cake. I don't believe it's offered everyday, but I highly suggest if it is! Before you go be sure to check out the gift shop in the front of the place. Or stop to get some loose tea for home. I really enjoyed my visit here and would go back if in the area. read more

I've lived local for many years and always wanted to come here and its everything I thought it would be. Its charming and lovely and the food is delicious. I had the oolong tea which was delicious but there are many to choose from. The cups are all different and I love that. I had the sandwich of the day minus onion and philly tomato soup and was quite pleased. I had cinnamon scones for dessert and it was perfect without being too sweet. The Positives: The owners Gemma and Alice are warm and welcoming, and always appreciative of their customers. Similarly, the wait staff are very friendly and professional. The tea selections are very good, the china used is of good quality and quite attractive. There is no loud music, as there is at many restaurants, so it is a good place to carry on a conversation. The Improvement Opportunities: I am speaking both as a customer who has been to many tea rooms; and as a former restaurant/nightclub manager. It is quite a disappointment that the default creamer served is artificial creamer! That is simply not done at tea rooms where real cream or half and half is an unwritten and essential expectation. They do sometimes have heavy cream available (but not always) and in lieu of that, milk is available upon request, but that isn't nearly as good, especially in black teas like Earl Grey where real cream is essential. Serving artificial creamer would be analogous to serving butter spread with homemade scones (of course real butter is served here as it should be). Regarding the food, they have increased portion sizes which is appreciated, and their Shepherd's Pie and Pasties are both comforting on a warm day. However, they are both significantly underseasoned, and the pasties are a bit too doughy. Our tablecloth strangely had a bump/seam in the middle that couldn't be straightened out, so we had to be careful where we set down our food and beverage. In sum, the owners have gone to great lengths to have a beautiful restaurant and top notch china and teapots (even having a place to set the tea strainer). It would take very little effort to get real half and half from the supplier (it can be obtained shelf stable so it will keep at room temperature) so that the tea service is fully authentic and top notch. It would also not take much effort add some more seasoning to the beef dishes I suggest Worcestershire, garlic salt, and onion). This place could easily be a five star restaurant with the suggested improvements and I look forward to being able to upgrade the rating for this restaurant in the future. read more

Was skeptical by the wait and don't like watching people eat. Sat and understood immediately this place is a small piece London in the Midwest. Too much tea to enjoy in one lifetime. We love coming in here to purchase souvenirs and cute stuff. We have not had lunch or tried their tea. We enjoy finding neat and unique accessories that can only be found here. The last time we were in town was a year ago and I loved a head band I found here, and got lots of nice compliments from everyone even strangers. Well this visit I got lucky to find another cute headband. I definitely recommend you swing on by and check out their stuff. Great little cafe! We took our Granddaughter here for a quick birthday lunch. The staff was amazing. Everyone was wearing their masks and the social distancing was being followed. The "TEA" was great! Great place to explore the World of Tea! The food was amazing also. We had the Beef Pasty with their signature slaw. Delicious! They brought out a puff pastry for my Granddaughters birthday treat with a candle. They were absolutely delicious! We will definitely be going back to enjoy some more delicious tea and treats! Scones from everyplace except here are now ruined for me. My wife and I stopped here the other day and got the "cream tea" plate (2 scones & tea); she'd had it before and coaxed me back to try it, even though we live nearly an hour away. Well worth the trip. Scones were soft, buttery and warm, with a slightly crisp exterior. The sweetened cream spread made them positively glorious . Between the raspberry and strawberry jams that came on the side, we preferred the raspberry. We each ordered a scone plate, but unless you're very hungry, two people could easily split one. Irish breakfast tea was robust but smooth, and the server kept our pot full. Not many other customers there when we stopped by so I didn't get a look at other food items, but the menu looked interesting. Next time we come by I will probably try the pasty. read more

Loved, loved, loved this place. Met the new owners and they couldn't have been nicer. My daughter and I really enjoyed lunch. We started with cream tea - pot of tea with 2 scones, cream and jam. She had the Maiden's lunch - brie, fruit, warm ciabatta, jam. She was in her happy place. I enjoyed assorted tea sandwiches with fruit. So then dessert - OMG. Small gem in a small town. It is a nice small pantry that has extraordinary food and of course TEA. So far I've been here twice and I am pretty sure there will be many more visits. It is a small place but I never been in a waiting seat to get a booth or a table for two. It has various tea and they have the description for each of the tea on their menu card. They have scrumptious scones. I Their scone becomes my standard in tasting any other scone. It is just fresh and delicious. They also have tasty food. I tried spinach quiche and beef pastry, both are yummy. Spinach quiche comes with bread (butter fruity bread) appleslaw which is amazingly delicious!! Beef pastry is another great food. It comes with appleslaw, pickle and some baby carrots and of course gravy. Their portion is just perfect (for me) it doesn't that much but believe me it will make you full and satisfy your tastebuds. Their crumplets is ok. It is tasty and nice but it's not that memorable. Their Tea is amazing. It has many various and we can buy it in their gift shop. They have little gift shop that sell some Michigan things and cute little things that every girls and women like. The wait staff was great! The food was delicious! The way the we were seated was awful. We were a party of three. Two of us showed up first and were told we had to wait for our friend before getting seated. A lone woman came in after us and was told she could sit anywhere. She took one of two booths open. Keep in mind there is a very limit amount of seating for a party of three or more. Our friend arrived and we were told to take a seat. A hostess at the other entrance to seating also told a party of two they could take a seat. Both our party and their's ended up at the only booth left. It was very uncomfortable and awkward. My questions are, "Why when there were three hostesses, is seating left to chance? Why aren't parties of one or two seated at the tables that only seat two? Why aren't the booths reserved for larger parties?" A more intelligent seating system would leave customers less frustrated from a long wait and make more money for the restaurant. The hostesses were not busy. Two were chatting and putting labels on paper bags...not a good way to utilize labor. When customers come in and see a large group if people waiting, they leave for another restaurant. read more

I really love the Tea Pantry. The products are nice and they're mostly what you would expect in a tea shop. They sell pots, cups, sets, and other tea accoutrement in addition to various loose teas. They also sell imported British food items like Jaffa Cakes, Walnut Whips, Fruit Gums, Bisto, scone mixes, and more. They used to have a frozen foods option with things like bangers and pies, but I don't recall seeing it on my last visit. The real draw is the small restaurant within the shop, which serves not only delicious British meals but also a proper cream tea with yummy scones, double cream, and a huge list of teas from which to choose. Craving a Ploughman's? They have that too, though with more American style cheddar than the well-aged crumbly British sort. They offer pasties, pork pies, shepherd's pie, and other hot food items as well. The only trick is to check your watch; lunch service becomes tea service sometime around 3pm and tea isn't held on Sunday. Oh, and you won't find tea bags here. Loose tea, in a pot, with a strainer. Lovely. Definitely check out the dessert list. They have seriously good sweets. The prices are very reasonable, particularly for the restaurant, and I really enjoy the friendliness of the staff. read more

I had never been a fan of scones until I had the scones at British Pantry. They are amazing, moist and delicious. You can get scones to take home and just pop them in the oven for a few minutes; they are just as amazing. Along with the delicious scones, the food is wonderful. I have loved everything I have tried; delicious sandwiches, wonderful soups, and my favorite slaw. Do not forget dessert, even if you have to take it with you. The service is wonderful, everyone is very friendly, helpful, and know their teas. Not only do they have a nice selection of teas, but beautiful tea pots and accessories, gifts, and British foods. I have brought many friends to the British Pantry, each has loved the experience. Some of my non-scone-loving friends to sample these scones and converted them to scone-lovers, but only the Pantry's scones. Ploughmans Lunch was filling but could be improved with a bit more variety on the plate. Dessert was not memorable. This was my first visit to Tecumseh and I was delighted to find this wonderful tea room. I had already eaten in town and was looking for a little treat; the whole place was a treat. The waitperson had been working there for 10 years and had been born in England. Great accent, great service. The warm scones were scrumptious. I even took a piece of carrot cake to go. I cant speak for the food or the tea since I was thrown out before I had a chance be seated or even order. Don't even think about walking in this place after 3pm on a Sunday even if you drove a hour and a half. Even though they close at 4. The manager will be quick to remind you on how wrong you where for even thinking about coming inn to try to take you mother for just Tea for here birthday. Apparently just getting tea is consider lunch. I understand they have to draw the line on when they will serve people but I walked at 3 not 10 till 4 and we just wanted tea no food no lunch. I went here today with my grandma. Everything was delicious. I got the chicken cobb sandwich which was great, and my grandma had the chicken salad sandwich, which she loved and looked very good. It had large chunks of moist chicken and was a large portion. The apple slaw was also great. I had been afraid that it would be too sweet with all the fruit in it, but it wasn't at all. We both loved our teas as well. I got scones, and I can't wait to try them when I get home. I only wish I lived in state so I could visit more often. Yum!! read more
