It's not just off Hwy #10 but you gotta zig zag past some office complexes, and the parking can be atrocious. Free-skates on the weekend are only $8 or so for 75 minutes of skating, rental included. The skates are a little beaten up but this is expected. Interestingly enough, the rink isn't too full at all. There were maybe 40 people at most, which left more than enough room to zip around and do some laps. There are also walkers for those who aren't experts, as well as mini-chairs for the kids. Upstairs there is also a pub (Thirsty Penguin), but I didn't try anything there. If you are looking for a nice cheap place to have fun, whether you're with friends, family, or date, this is actually a surprisingly excellent venue. Recommended.

They have a couple of multi-purpose rooms for fitness classes. I was hoping for a gym to work out but there is none. It's good for hockey and some fitness classes. I love the idea of a community centre with multiple facilities. Gym, pool, skating rink, PLUS a…read morelibrary and café -- check, check, check. And it's modern? We love new, up-to-date facilities. I've used all their facilities except for the skating rink (so I like to think I'm a fairly reliable source). You can pay drop-in for gym and/or pool for $7.50 (yep, you can use both facilities in the same day if you want). Gym isn't huge but there are still enough machines/benches/treadmills to go around. You could totally do a full workout without waiting your turn (unless it's after 4 on a weekday, aka peak gym hours everywhere). Pool is one of the best in Vancouver, given that it's new and has a lot of features. A good number of swimming lanes, leisure pools, a lazy river, 3 diving boards, a big hot tub, a sauna (that is not so big) and a steam room. Showers are fine as far as public pool showers go (the curtains don't fully shut but still better than UBC's) and you can bring your own lock for the lockers. I love that there's a library because I can head on over post-workout and enter a different kind of calm, zen mindset as I peruse the shelves. Whose idea was it to attach a library to every community centre (and can we get more of that, please!)? There will always be something to gripe about with every community centre (sometimes there are way too many people in one swimming lane and I'm not sure why they don't open up another), but as far as Hillcrest goes, it has a lot to offer. A really great place to hit up all the facilities in one stop, or to bring the kids along for a fun-filled, athletic and/or academic weekend. Also, the staff is GREAT and so kind. Kudos to them!

Most likely cause it's very hard to reach using public transit. We arrived around 5 min before our booking time. The front staff asked for our proof of vaccination before letting us in. They have a lot of court, and it's very clean, but the floor is a bit slippery. The staff does not care whether you use dark coloured sole shoes; non marking is optional. There are rest bench for every court, labelled with the court number. We could play badminton match without wearing our mask. Washroom is very clean; a lot of amenities, there are two of changing room, two shower rooms, and lockers. Seems like you can buy necessary stuff t the front desk like racket, shuttlecock, shoes, and water, but minimum charge with card is $5.

There are varying skill levels, so there's always the errant birdie flying into another court. It's a little pricey in my opinion as you have to bring your own birdies as well, but it's nice to drop in every once in a while.
