I spent an hour on the phone trying to resolve a charge dispute. They said I was not responsible and would contact me the next day. Instead, they sent me to collections. I canceled on the last day of August and after three interactions they still didn't close my policy but canceled it on September 12th for non-payment! Three interactions were ignored for nearly two weeks. Luckily, I never had to file a claim! They can't even run billing and customer service at the bare minimum, imagine how bad they would be at handling the actual claims process. A very bad experience with Bristol West. I was trying to turn off my autopay to cancel my policy. However, they won't let me terminate my autopay. Hence, they charged me for another 6 months worth of policy. IT was a big amount, but no email confirmation was sent out to me. I realized the charges were made after my bank statement was released. I keep on asking the agents through calls or live chats but they were not helpful and rude as well. They kept on saying 24 hours to get my full refund back and to cancel my policy. These guys are shady. I paid for the first month of insurance to get my policy started, but it was very taxed for just liability only. I ended up finding cheaper insurance near the end of my first month, and I canceled the policy 3 days before the end of my first month that I had already paid for. Every other insurance company I've canceled policies on early refunds me for the time I'm not insured, and initially BristolWest said they would too. They sent me an email at first saying I'd be credited 29.83 for the days I'm not insured. But instead of getting a check in the mail for 29.83, they sent me a bill! I thought this has to be some kind of mistake, so I called and told them I had paid them for a full month but cancelled early, and that was supposed to be the money they were going to give me back. They responded by putting me on hold for a very long time and than said I still owed that from the first month. I said "How can that be? I had gotten the policy started because I paid up front for a full month already. It was an agreed upon amount for the first month. The policy wouldn't have been able to be started if I didn't pay the first month in full, that can't be right" They responded by putting me on hold for a long time again. When they got back to me the second time they said the money you owe is a cancelation fee. I responded "well that doesn't seem right, because I got told initially that I would be credited that exact amount, and when I purchased the policy over the phone initially I told them I might cancel and asked them if that would be ok. I was never told there was a cancelation fee" They said there was a cancelation fee of 25.00 dollars, and they'd send me the policy documents that had that written in it. I said, "That still doesn't make sense as to why I'd owe 29.83, because even after the 25.00 dollar fee getting imposing on me that no other car insurance company ever has, (and I never signed this agreement I believe) they'd still owe me 4.83." I told them they don't even have to pay me that, but there's no way I should owe them, and I asked them to review my bill down in the payments departments. They said they would, but now they are sending my bill to collections over 29.83 cents. This is a multi million dollar insurance company, and they're trying to con me out of this small amount of money. It's really ridiculous I should have to pay this or fight it, and they're actually taking it to this level. I am going to fight it out of principle at this point. I believe they probably swindle other people out of money they are rightfully owed on claims if they can't even pay out 4.83$, and drop this. They're big cooperate bullies that scam and swindle people who they believe can't fight! I believe the other reviews I'm seeing of all the other people they have scammed. This was a week before my autopay was supposed to go through. Then the payment goes through and so does my autopay causing me to have a credit. I called and customer service apologized and said I would get my refund within 5 days and that they were having issues with many people getting double charges.
