This place has been going downhill and after 30 years of history with them, I can say that they no…read morelonger live up to their reputation and I encourage people to go elsewhere. All of the following incidents have occurred within just the last two months.
First, I brought my cat in for an emergency appointment due to him yowling in pain with every movement. Dr. Graham diagnosed him with pancreatitis and arthritis in his hip. We discussed pain management for the arthritis and when I asked if there were other options besides an injectable he told me about why all of the other options aren't reliable. I was sent home without any follow up care instructions, an appetite stimulant that I was told was an anti-nausea med (it just has some anti-nausea properties and I should have realized something was off when the tech said a different name and did a double take at the med she gave me), and an injectable for the arthritis. I came in because of his severe pain and left thinking that the pain was just from the arthritis and I couldn't treat it until the pancreatitis resolved. I had to do my own research to learn that pain management is very important in pancreatitis care and that the med he gave me wasn't even an anti-nausea med (and my cat was having zero issues with throwing up or not eating). I had to follow up and ask for what day I should expect him to get better and insist on getting pain management. I was told that they would have meds ready for me the next day, and when I called to confirm they were ready 24 hours later, the front desk hadn't even talked to the Dr. yet. What's worse, when I spoke to Dr. Graham about my concerns and tried to get him to write a script, he had the audacity to lie and say that I denied pain meds. They record their appointments now, and I said I would love for him to listen to that recording and show me where I denied the pain meds. He pivoted away when I quoted back our discussion to him and he took no accountability. When filling the meds, the office staff panicked that the dose was wrong, changed it, and then my mom had to tell them that when they changed it they were giving the wrong dose and it was originally correct.
Next, my main vet is Dr. Hatcher. I reached out to her about if I could meet my dog's nutritional needs via a homemade diet because she is so picky and needs a prescription diet. I was sent a website to check out and told that she could put in a referral to the nutritionist if I wanted. I said I would look at the site but that I absolutely wanted the nutritionist referral done. I never heard back. My dog since started eating her food more consistently, so I didn't press the issue, but lack of follow up has proven to be a pattern.
Then, my dog had a strange neurological event a week after her annual in February that required an ER visit. I was told to follow up with my vet and I did that next morning. The office staff asked that I request the records from her visit sent over and I was told Dr. Hatcher would be in that afternoon. I immediately called the ER but the records didn't get completed and sent until a few days later. Dr. Hatcher never called me that afternoon, but she also never called me once the records finally came in. I just finally sent a follow up email today, 13 days after my initial contact with them, asking for them to again answer my questions. I've heard nothing so far.
Additionally, at the ER visit for my dog, that doctor said that she was showing a significant pain response in her hips and spine and that based on her level of pain she needed a lot more pain management than she was currently receiving. My dog had her annual just a week prior to this, and Dr. Hatcher's comments about her pain were that she is has become a cranky old lady who wants people off her lawn. I tried to kindly redirect her from saying that and she just kept digging in. My dog is happy and very loving to people. She is 16 and has dementia. I would expect my primary vet to realize that more care is needed for pain, instead of making comments, and know my pet better than the ER doctor.
Finally, the office staff is rude and poorly trained. I have first hand dealt with them not passing along messages to doctors, getting annoyed because I live 40 minutes away and can't quickly or easily get there, and acting like I'm the problem when I've had to be direct with them. They really bank on the fact that phone calls aren't recorded, so a friendly tip if you have to deal with them...Wisconsin is a one party consent state for recording. When it's their word against yours, you can make sure that their word is captured and let the owner try to argue with that .
