Lots of clean lines, raw metal, marble and rich fabrics. I am particularly taken with their brass anglepoise lamp, which I am saving my pennies for. I'm also a fan of their horse prints, which, dare I say it, are similar to the ones in St Clements. Slowly, as I start to buy pieces for the new house that I plan to cherish for a long time, I predict there trips to Weekend Trader will become more frequent, even if it's only to dream...

This store has a cool as range of designer things for your home, office and garden. They have nice furniture and on this particular day there was an excellent sale price on a very nice 3 + 2 seater couch set. I loved all of the furniture, in fact I really could not take my eyes of every next thing I came to. Here is another example of what I fell in love with, ring holders, yes you bet! This designer range was stainless steel and included upturned umbrellas, animals, flowers, all fashioned to hold rings and jewellery and priced under $20, not bad. I think I will make a mental note to add The Design Store to my favourite shopping spots because the purchases I'll make here would be unique and would turn an eye. Check them out for yourself.

It has a warehouse feel just packed with amazing furniture. If you are a busy person, this store has a lot of their products on trademe, their prices are really great and they don't charge ridiculous prices to post them. They have heaps of iconic inspired designs like those totally awesome chrome stools but they don't cost as much as the originals. They also stock the infamous tin cow statues which you either absolutely love or absolutely hate. We had in our mind's eye, the threshold figure of $1000 and didn't want to spend much more than that. The woman in this place was very friendly and talked us through some of the options. After bouncing on bed after bed, we found one that was super comfortable but was a bit over budget. We negotiated with the woman and got a pretty good deal. The headstand was $200 extra and we convinced ourselves that we didn't need one. A few weeks later we realised we did need it so we went back to the shop and bought it. A year down the line, the bed is still as comfortable as ever. Like I've said we went to quite a few shops but this seemed have the best deals.

There are aisles of all kinds of things for your home, a massive chopstick section, Hello Kitty cling wrap, food bags and plasters. Interestingly a big range of nappies and other baby things. It is fun just to look around, there are some odd things here too, especially in the bathroom and cleaning sections. Since then I see his creations popping up left right and centre! Kilsby's pieces are all created from white clay that is then hand painted and fired, his ceramics are perfect for both indoor and outdoor use and should last forever. Though, be warned just because it's strong doesn't mean it will withstand being dropped - something I found out the hard way :( Kevin Kilsby's work is all very Kiwi inspired - pohutukawa flowers, pukekos, korus, tuis, beaches - his work reflects New Zealand's beauty. I admit I love having his mugs and platters in my house - I'm proud to have them on display. Kilsby's store is located on Richardson Road in Owairaka, so there is plenty of free parking on the street - take some time to explore his store and appreciate his beautiful work. Well, I bought those 3 up so decided to check for "the source". I wrote to the store listed online and Kevin himself wrote me back! He had a place setting of what I was looking for (more Kiwi's) and in less than a week received his beautiful work! He did this just as he was preparing to go on an overseas trip! I cannot wait until he returns to his shop to put in my next order! Well done Kevin!

The bright colours and textures of items spilling out around their small entrance is what drew me in for the first time. I have shopped there several times, and although I love their stuff I do have to mention that the service has not always been so great; staff are often too busy socializing, or have little knowledge of their own stock; once I left my phone number, wanting the price on a particular item that they couldn't quite get at, physically, and they never phoned me back.

The whole experience of walking through the showroom is something luxurious with the plush furniture much of which you can sit down and relax on, there is a coffee machine and the day we were there they even had brownies on offer. Downstairs and upstairs is packed with couches and occasional furniture. We felt the quality was absolutely outstanding, this is what their branding is all about. But you do have to pay for the privilege of quality. Luckily things were on sale because it would be the only way we could make a purchase at this store. Ended up, we re-covered our existing couch and are happy with it for now. Back to DM at a later date, we will time it for one of their major sales.
