I was and am very disappointed with the level of care received by patients at the Brinton Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. There was a distinct lack of necessary staffing required to adequately care for all patients in a timely manner - often I saw where patients had to wait 30 minutes or more for a response to their call buttons. There were issues getting proper devices - we had to wait at least two weeks before we received a chair that our patient could use for their therapy. The doctor actually had to write a prescription for it, and we had to follow-up several more times before this was taken care of. Some of the staff were careless with medications - I witnessed where the patient received an injection and the staff did not wipe off the area beforehand with an alcohol pad. I was then told by the patient that cleaning the area prior to receiving an injection was haphazard - sometimes it was done and sometimes it was not. There was an occasion where I witnessed a patient receiving care in the hallway instead of their room. I also witnessed a patient left in their chair while the nurses/aides did other things, and worried for that patient's safety as they confessed they were dizzy, in pain, and needed to lie down. And the nurse and/or aide was nowhere to be found for at least 20 minutes. The doctors did not generally introduce themselves or identify themselves in any way. The care required - i.e., blood tests and labs - was not done in a timely fashion and was sometimes skipped altogether. Some of the devices provided to the patients (e.g., beds, televisions) stopped working and this either did not get fixed or was only fixed when the problem became insurmountable, such as the bed falling apart. Aides called out often and often did not come in to work on the weekends. I have experienced care at a few different rehab places, and I would never send a patient to this center. read more

Came here to visit my step mother and the place is quaint and has the potential to be so much more. Everything is on one level. The quality of care here could use some work. We pressed the button to get assistance and the response time is about a 1/2 hour to hour wait before someone tends to your request. When the care assistant came so had a phone in her bossom and was talking to her son, she stated she could not hang up for whatever reason but if you have a personal call then either have them hold on or call them back. I thought it was very unprofessional. She's talking to my stepmom and her son at the same time. The lady who was sharing the room was in agony and ask for pain medication they took their time getting to her. Oh and somebody forgot to put the cap back on the catheter bag and pee was all over the floor. Not sure if they are understaffed or don't want to work on weekends but someone needs to oversee what is going on here. I'm not sure this is the place to help my stepmom as she is unable to walk. Do your research before placing your love one here. read more

My husband was sent there for physical therapy not nursing care. The place is a pig sty. I cleaned his bathroom and room every single day because the staff would not. EVERY SINGle DAY. He never had a hot meal or hot coffer. Not once. The more we complained the more the staff did not care. The place is filthy. The parking lot is disgusting. I had to step over trash, rubber gloves that staff member just threw on the ground when leaving. Bloody cotton balls etc. The facility should be shut down. I had aides refuse to help my husband because they were "agency", not employed by Brinton Manor. If you don't want to do your job then find another line of work. They point blank lie about services. When my husband was discharged, they lied on the discharge papers that he received physical therapy 5x a week. He was lucky to get it 3 x a week. Then it was for about 20 min. If he had to go to the bathroom during the pt they would take him to his room and never resume the therapy for that day. Then they decided not to work on his leg strength which is why he was there in the first place. Not o0ne shower the 5 weeks he was there. I bathed him. He lost 20lbs the first 2 weeks he was there because the food was terrible. My stepdaughter and I brought him 3 meals a day. The only time he was alone in that hell hole was when he slept. 3 different times he awoke to a patient from another room just standing over him. When you complained nothing was ever done. I was there from11am to midnight every single day. My stepdaughter arrived before they opened and was there till, I arrived. My next letter is to the state. Animals should not be put into this facility. I had to basically argue with them to get my husband rides to his doctor's appointments. Again, he did not need nursing care. There has to be another option for people like him that do not need nursing care. I told them If I had to physically put him in my car to take him to an appt, he was not coming back. All of a sudden, they can accommodate him. It was the worst experience we have ever had. All the social worker and head nurse did was blow smoke when we complained. Andrew Pile is the "administrator" The man never once left his office. How about hiring someone to clean up the parking lot. All he did just like most there was collect a paycheck. My next move and letter is to contact the state. No one should be treated like the people locked up in that crap hole of a facility...I finally called my husband's doc and demanded he be rereleased from the facility. I told him what was happening, and he totally agreed to home pt. My husband was thriving after the first week of being home and is back to his old self. NO ONE SHOULD BE ADMITTED TO THIS FACILITY. THE STATE SHOULD DO A SURPRISE INSPECTION AND CLOSE IT DOWN FOR GOOD. They were also sued for a death and lost the lawsuit. Found out about that online. My husbands roomate would not call a soul when he would pee and poop in his diaper. He sat in that mess an entire Saturday. It got to the point where we could no longer even sit or stay in the room because the smell was so foul. It was so bad that the ammonia smell from the urine was burning our eyes...The roommate did not give a damn about laying in crap all day. Literally an entire Sat I begged someone to come in and change him. This place is inhumane and should be closed. read more

I must give this "skilled nursing facility" one star in order to give a review. Make no mistake, this place is a snake pit run by incompetent and uncaring staff. It smells awful and it is very old and filthy. I was transferred there from a long hospital stay for a six day course of IV antibiotics. When I arrived to check in, there were three staff members behind the front desk doing nothing. I could not get anyone's attention. Finally I introduced myself and said I was there to register and be admitted. At long last, with no other introduction one of the aides brought me to my room and pointed at a bed that had been slept in and had a pile of filthy blankets piled on it. I asked if the linen would be changed and was met with no response or instructions. No one ever came to register me. Several hours later a woman appeared in my room and told me she was going to perform a "body check". I was basically strip searched including a hands on inspection of private body parts. I was more than shocked and given no reason for this search. I have never been so humiliated in my life. I was left to my own devices for hours so I tried to find a clean place on the bed to sit. "Dinner" was eventually brought to me. I could not identify one item on the plate. It looked just like or worse than jail food you see on tv. Needless to say, I did not touch it. I slept on a corner of the mattress that night fully dressed. No one ever came in to see if I needed anything or noticed that I was in my street wear. The next morning began with more jail food. At this point I had not eaten in 24 hours but they took my untouched food away with no comment. I weighed 90 pounds and was very sick. The semi-private room was a dirty hellhole that contained broken furniture that could not have been newer than the 1970's. The bathroom was disgusting and consisted of a small sink and a toilet. No shower. The whole time I was there I was never given towels. When I pressed the call button, no one came. As soon as possible that morning I texted a friend and asked her to come get me out of this place. I had been there about 12 hours. She came and we began packing my belongings. Suddenly, a woman named Ellen appeared along with a posse of backup employees and asked what I was doing. I told her that I was leaving and exactly why, including the strip search. She told me I could not leave and blocked the exit with her co-workers. I told her that she could not stop me from leaving, that I had been a paralegal for a large Philadelphia law firm for many years and absolutely knew my rights. I was about to call the police. She finally moved out of the way and marked a paper saying that I had left Against Medical Advice. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. When I got home, I went to the State Police Barracks and filed a police report which the Trooper listed as assault. Later that day I was unexpectedly visited by a woman from Health and Human Services who said that my experience had been reported and she was there to conduct a welfare check on me to see if I was all right. I told her my story and she said they would conduct an investigation. The next day I called Brinton Manor and asked to speak to the Administrator, Ellen, to emphasize the horrible experience I had there. I was told that she no longer worked there and that the day I left had been her last day. Right. This review could go on but I have already written enough. I am posting some pictures of my "accommodations" which I took with my cell phone. Do not be deceived by the beautiful pictures of the site that were posted by Brinton. Those pictures are a fantasy of the owners (Genesis, known for their acquisition of old failing nursing homes that they purchase cheaply, raise the prices, and decrease the services). My stay in that room would have been over $9,000 a month. Do not go there as a resident and please God do not place one of your loved ones there. read more

If I could give zero stars I would, I give it one star only because we only had one compassionate nurse take care of my mother. The Director at Brinton Manor is horrible. What they did to my family when my mother died is unforgiveable. My Father had died at home from cancer a few days earlier, and the morning of my Fathers funeral, my mother passed away too from COPD at Briton Manor. The director called us at the Funeral home to tell us we had to come to Briton Manor to sign papers to release my mothers body. They REFUSED to wait until my Father funeral, burial and luncheon was over at 2pm, they did not allow us to grieve our Father properly. They kept calling us over and over and insisting we come immediately. They only care about money and filling the next bed with a body. It was the most horrible day for our family and I will never forget it. Our entire family was traumatized by this event and their insistence on getting my mother to the morgue is sickening. read more

Don't go here. One of the members of my church are here. She is diabetic and they haven't checked her blood sugars since she has been there. She got there on Tuesday and today is Friday. They don't clean her room or floor, only with a dust mop. Nursing staff have an attitude. The care is awful. Medication not given on time. One time they tried to give her the wrong medication and she told them that it was the wrong amount. They argued with her. Look for another place if you ask me. She has not been happy. Please hire new help and train them. People deserve better. read more

After reading the negative reviews, I am compelled to write this. My mother has been there for a year now. She loves it. Her only complaint is that they don't know how to cook. LOL. She participates in a lot of the activities provided, goes out to dinner from time to time and generally is thriving there! It's all about attitude and outlook....Mom is 97 years old and treated with respect and dignity. Side note: Her roommate was verbally abused by an aide....the aide was discharged as this type of behavior is not tolerated. While Mom and her roommate felt bad for the aide, (because she has children) I explained that she had no right to talk to anyone like that. The staff are responsive, even the maintenance personnel are friendly and helpful. When I've visited from California, the residents seem happy and don't complain (I talk to many of them). The housekeeping staff seem to take care of the rooms to my mother's satisfaction (she likes a clean house). When having the family meetings, the nurse managers, occupational therapist and social worker all are aware of any issues, her progress and the next steps for mom. Please judge for yourself. If you are thinking about placing a loved one at Briton Manor, please talk to the residents to see how they feel. read more

This place should get 0 stars! But I had to put one due to wanting to submit this. This place does not get one star. First of all my first visit there to see my best friends Mom, there was dirty linen all over her room, a used linen on the sink in the bathroom that which is shared between my friends mom and her roommate. Along with a basin and other toiletries on the sink ledge. Around her room were piles of dirty linen up against the wall, on top of the hazardous waste bin (red trash bin). We were concerned about her weight loss (which the emergency contact, my friend was not notified of since being admitted) she was 185+ lbs on DOA, a few days later it was 170+ lbs, THEN another week later was another weight that was 160+ lbs! So she lost roughly 20+ lbs and the nurse when questioned about her weight loss said "we don't have to call families about weight loss". Now I am an aide at a facility and the nurses HAVE to call family members if their weight loss or gain is 5 or more lbs then their previous weight. CLEARLY there is something wrong if she lost that much weight. I then asked about her intakes (how much food and fluids she is consuming) the first nurse I asked said "we don't document intakes unless they are on a specific diet" WHAT? Last I check you are suppose to keep these records due to having residents with Medicare and Medicaid? Am I wrong? proceed to going to the nursing station and asking that nurse Michelle (2nd Shift LPN) what her intakes were, she said she can look at her charts & she pulled it right up on the computer! So clearly the nurse we spoke to first was just being lazy! Then we proceeded to ask a few more questions regarding her mom and the nurse had a poor attitude, we are concerned so that is why we ask. We are the family of your resident and you have a problem giving us information pertaining to her health and the benefit of her. My friends brother has brought in on several occasions a hoagie for her and asked if they could put it in the fridge for her for the next days lunch. Tonight they got her a wawa sub and saved that for her for lunch tomorrow. On my way to the desk to for them to sign her name on the bag, I overhear the LPN Michelle talking to another aide in the presence of a resident (in the residents room) using profanity and talking about me and my friend for asking questions. "We don't use fucking IMAR, etc" I heard the F word more clear from the doorway then any other word. She then comes out while I wait at the desk and I said "I understand your stressed because we asked all these questions but we just want to know what's going on" she proceeded to say "I just don't get why all these questions when Friday she had a lengthy conversation with her (friends Mom) doctor for 45 minutes. Its Sunday and now all of these questions" I kid you not I felt like throat punching her. HOW UNPROFESSIONAL. You mean to tell me a family member can't ask how their family member is doing? She's lost a significant amount of weight. Her doctors appointment is being pushed further when something is clearly wrong. She is confused, she has said before that some of the aides are rough. (I understand she is confused as well) it just breaks my heart standing their in plain clothing seeing how much she is being neglected. While we stood at the nurses station asking questions; a resident was behind me (sweet little lady who actually LOVED my rain boots) was begging for someone to put her to bed. There was an aide just sitting at the nurses station listening to us ask the nurse questions, instead of putting this lady to bed! The woman then asked the aide directly and the aide said I don't know where *aides name* is. So you mean to tell me that because this resident is not on YOUR assignment, you can't help her go to bed??!! So if someone BMs and their aide is on Lunch, are you going to let them sit in it until they return from lunch because "it's not your resident". I am infuriated and absolutely in SHOCK the way this place is run. I'm all over the place because I remember as I go all of what I've witness in just TWO visits to this hellhole. One of their housekeepers told me and my friend that "she would NEVER put anyone in her family at that place". Does that not tell you something? This place gets absolutely NO stars! They neglect their residents, my girlfriend visited yesterday and her mom as naked under her blanket with DRY BM all over her & on the bottom of her foot. Like Why? It really breaks my heart. Brinton Manor - Skilled Nursing Near Me - Glen Mills, Pennsylvania

Stayed here 2 different times. The first time it was run by Genesis. The first time wasn't as bad as the second stay. First time was due to a stroke. Roaches and mice in the dining hall. People would gather around and chit chat. Two nights in a row temp nurses refused to give me my insulin at dinner time. Second stay awful! Was there for rehab and wound care. Left leg was bad from stroke and had an abscess and surgery on right foot. Had been instructed no weight on the right foot with a hole in my foot the size of a golf ball due to dead tissue Removed and it needed to heal from the inside out. Got there about 5 pm and didn't see any staff till about 8 pm. That was for a body check. They removed the bandage on my foot sand didn't have proper bandaging when rewrapping. There was a prescription ointment to go on the wound. She took a tube from the top of the cart that was almost empty. When you have a wound you open a new tube to use then it goes in the drawer with that patients meds. My wheel chair couldn't fit in the tiny bathroom. With a toilet and nothing else and was shared for 2 rooms with 2 people each so 4 people. The toilet was clogged. It was clogged 2 years before. The 2nd night I finally got some of my meds "borrowed" from other patients. It was very unfriendly and no one was allowed to get together and talk. Both stays pushed the button for nurses station and no one cams. I got on my wheelchair to look for help. In one spot 3 ands in the hall sleeping. Fought with admin to get released when I got home ended up in the ER with symptoms of another stroke. Turned to be withdraw from my meds especially one that I was on a mega dose of. I had a thunderclap headache, which I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy! So much more I can say but it would be a novel. Oh last night there the nurse came in and handed me a cup of meds and told me to take them. I asked what was in the cup because I know my meds and it was wrong. She could not identify a single pill. Ended up in a screaming match at about 10 pm. She got the nursing supervisor who heard me screaming. She came to my room and asked what was wrong. By the way the LPN dispensing kept saying different companies making meds look different I sat with the supervisor after requesting to go over my med list from Riddle. The one of sever meds I take 300mgs they only make them in 100mgs so I take 3. Another med I take 375 mg which is a mega dose. She insisted I took 37.5 mg and Riddle was wrong the put the . In the wrong spot. I pointed out 3 different spots where it was 375 mg and I responded where it even stated what I said 2 150mgs and 1 75mg. Needless to say she looked like an ass in front of her supervisor. PLEASE DONT PUT A FRIEND OR FAMILY IN THERE! Oh meals are regular for everyone even if you are diabetic and cardiac are what you are on. If you have someone pop in to see then unannounced and different days. Residents also get a certain baths on certian days depending what paid for in the contract. PLEASE CONSIDER REMOVING THEM OFF THE LIST TO CONSIDER. I would let my dogs spend a day in there. read more

They put on a good show when we visited for a family member. After admission we had some concerns and addressed them with management who promised to address the issues. Just blowing smoke because nothing was done. Examples: No hot water for baths or showers and residents must go days without showering. Often under staffed so aid to residents is cut considerably, unsanitary conditions in dining rooms (food on the floor, floor so sticky you stick to it.). Residents rooms are sometimes dust mopped but not cleaned with a sanitizing floor cleaner. Carpet needs cleaned. Medication found on the floor in the hallway. Medication carts often left open and unattended, wrong medication being given to residents, response time for call button is "15 minutes". PT personnel are great as are "some" of the CNA's. DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE'S HERE!!!!!! read more

This place is terrible. Dirty. The DON is mean. She doesn't address issues with you. Instead she sends a " nurse manager " to talk to you and they lie to your face and very badly I must add. My mother has been here for 3 years. Besides her physical health problems, she was suffering from depression. (She's now 92}. Visiting hours are 24/7 and I visit her all the time. She's always clean and happy. Her room is always clean. She eats her meals in the dining room and has friends. I always get a call from the nurse for any little issue. The other reviews really surprised me as I'M at Brinton Manor all the time. read more

I had a friend who unfortunately was put in Brinton Manor by an uncaring family to live out their final days. In the 6 months I visited my friend I was appalled at the overall lack of care for the residents there. First, the personal living area for each resident is nothing more than your standard hospital room (circa the 1980s), with ANOTHER resident on the other side, separated by a curtain. Both use the same bathroom and shower, which is in the far front corner of the second resident's living area, forcing the other resident to walk past the separated curtain into their roommate's living area. So NO PRIVACY whatsoever. The worse part of it all is the size of what barely deserves to be called a "living space". I brought in a tape measure, as I was planning to buy a DVD player for my friend and find space for it by the TV. The space width wise my friend had for their bed, and all movement from the outside wall (wall of the hallway outside) to curtain separating their room mate, was 6 feet. The space from the far back wall that the head of the bed was against, to the closet a few feet away from the foot of the bed on the opposite wall, was a total of 12 feet. So you're talking about a total "living space" of 6 feet by 12 feet. In all of my visits to see my friend in those 6 months (once or twice a week), they were rarely checked on by any of the nurses (or anyone else). This is someone who was fighting (and dying) of cancer. My friends glasses broke, the arm came off. My friend repeatedly asked for assistance in getting the glasses repaired and for an appointment to be scheduled to see an eye doctor and get a new pair of glasses. This never happened and I bought an eye glass repair kit and fixed them best I could, reattaching the arm. An appointment was never scheduled or new glasses. I would ask at the nurses desk if it was being taking care of. Just received a BS non-answer. "We're working on it..." My friend also reported money being stolen from their bedside drawer. They give each resident a drawer with the crappiest little lock on it, that they carry a key for. The "lock" allows you to still open the drawer about half an inch. Anyone determined could easily pry it open and break the lock with a butter knife or some tool, if not just their bare hands. So my friend took to carrying all of their most important things on them at all times. Apart from the dismal living space, is the total absence of any real activities that are held for the residents. The best they get is BINGO day after day after day after day, and an "Ice Cream Social" from time to time, with two large brown economy tubs of lousy ice cream, where everyone gathers in the same room where the play BINGO everyday, and get to choose from vanilla and chocolate ice cream mixed, or strawberry. I spoke with the head of the "Recreation" department, who organizes the exciting BINGO and Ice Cream Social events about several free outdoor events/concerts in the summer that I thought the residents would enjoy and offered to make as much of the phone calls and arrangements possible myself to get them there. I knew one venue would definitely make special accommodations , them having a special road and unloading area especially for people in wheelchairs to get right up front at shows. She couldn't have been more dismissive or disinterested. I thought there'd be at least some excitement and discussion. Shot down immediately. I guess BINGO and Ice Cream is enough. Residents pretty much just have to befriend one another and create their own "fun" it would seem. The shared community space inside is really nothing remarkable. The "nicest" thing is a very small sitting area outside, positioned in the center of the building, with some tables with chairs and a few small trees planted. Overall, it was just a very depressing place to be. The kind of place where just saying hello to someone in the hall and making eye contact, they would smile so big, just because you acknowledged them. My friend was not happy at all in there and told me so. Sadly it's where my friend died. My friend deserved better. If you care at all for whoever you are looking to put into a permanent live in care "home", this place is as far as you can get from feeling like a home. Just holding cells for the old and dying. And as I said, apart from that, the total lack of interest and creativity in the "Recreation" for residents there is disgusting and depressing. To me, that is even more unforgivable than everything else. The fact that the place doesn't care at all to try and find more creative things and trips for the residents to do. Sadly I'm sure this isn't the worst place out there, but it's one of the worst. read more
