However, upon wandering inside I discovered that they actually had a nice tap beer available. That, to be honest, was pretty cool. In fact, it made this place feel much better. Mind you, I do remember coming through here ages ago, so it certainly did seem to be one of those places that I enjoyed visiting again.

We were seated and had a look at the menu and were told that when we were ready we should order at the bar. So we headed to the bar to order our meals and grab a couple of drinks and when we got back to our table another couple had been seated there...not happy. We found another table and awaited our meals but the mix-up put a dampener on my mood. We ordered the Roast Duck and Eye Fillett to share. The roast duck was described as orange and madeira oven roast duck with braised cabbage and creamy potato. It was a very pretty dish but let down terribly by overcooked duck and an undercooked potato stack despite the menu promising creamy potato.. Very disappointing. The medium rare Eye Fillet with mushroom sauce was very well cooked and accompanied by a side of delicious chips. The salad a bit bland and boring but who orders a steak for the salad anyway...

Of course, being the…read moreghost adventurers we are, I looked up "haunted hotels in Brisbane" on google when we were looking for our next experience. The Royal (James) hotel was the first one to pop up. The trip out to Harrisville is beautiful, surrounded by Australian mountains and farming lands as you travel through cute little towns. It's not hard to find the RH at all and it's the first thing you'll see as you're coming on to queen street. I was immediately in awe of the property, it's been kept in wonderful condition and sits on a huge piece of land. It's so awesome that there is free camping for patrons, great idea for anyone traveling long distance, or if you've had one too many XXXX bitters. The woman behind the bar was beyond friendly, which came as a surprise to me because so far my experience with small town pubs in Australia has been below expectations. The menu isn't just "pub food" as you may expect and they have glasses of wine for under $6! (Alcohol in Australia is pricey so this is good). Back to the menu, you can order pasta, pizza, fish n chips, steak, salads...etc. The lunch specials were: fish n chips for $12 Steak and chips for $12 Or a burger and chips for $12 (hey america, they call fries chips here:D) The menu states that if you have any food allergies at all, the staff would be happy to accommodate, cool! My dad and I ordered salt and pepper calamari to start, and both got fish n chips. Everything was good, especially the calamari, the fish was ok but nothing too special. Service was really so great, the lady I mentioned earlier was happy to tell us a little history about the place too. If you're ever in Brisbane and are looking for a casual, historical, and peaceful day, come here! The sky surrounding it is worth the trip itself. I'm definitely going to try and come here for a camping weekend, and maybe get spooked by some of the supposed ghosts that hang around here.

Wins hands down.

We had lunch, I ordered the fish and chip lunch special. It was delicious. The chips were crunchy and the fish and salad were very nice. Staff were lovely and service was quick. I ordered the tiramasu and was very disappointed. It came out and was a deconstructed version, very strange looking. The biscuits were hard and not soaked in coffee, but dipped half in the strongest and most bitter flavour of coffee I have tasted. I don't think it was premade, it looked like a rushed job. The sorbet or ice cream was very icy and the cream component was tasteless. After not being able to eat it, I asked for a takeaway box so I could take my $14 dessert home , hoping family might be able to eat it. The staff member, maybe a manager really couldn't care less when I mentioned it was not very nice. This did spoil lunch a bit, and I would have happily given a higher score, if not for this.
