I had to fight to get toilet paper, yes toilet paper. No one was on the same page. There were no universal processes so everything was CHAOS. You wait and wait and wait for even pain meds. Under staffed severely. I was "discharged" last Friday without knowing I had to do it myself. I had to call the nurse at the front desk to tell her I was leaving. No one ever told me this. OMG again, I almost lost the chartered car service waiting to take me home as this nonsense was so time consuming. AND worse yet, I was sent home WITHOUT my very vital meds (heart meds!!). I called and no one knew who could do anything. The meds were there and they were so stupid they couldn't possibly just call a messenger service or send someone to me (I live 10 blocks away). They did not call in any meds to my pharmacy. This just happened and I am now going into my 4th day of no heart meds. It is a disaster and disgrace. AVOID like the plague.

Hard to believe that Hospital for Special Surgery, the finest orthopedic hospital in the world,…read moresends its patients for rehab to Mary Manning Walsh, where patients receive inadequate and incompetent care. The administrative staff is generally good, as are the nurses and, the PTs. ( Especially Yolanda) However, the caretakers and aides, save for a few, lack the tiniest bit of compassion and/or interest in the patients' welfare or comfort. They are so nasty that no amount of sensitivity training could help. This is such culture shock coming from HSS where the care and kindness is five star quality. I was left to fend for myself for hours on end when I developed diarrhea and chills and could barely get myself to the bathroom. A diaper was tossed to me, but no one came to follow up and check on me. When I rang the bell and asked for help putting my leg up on the bed, which was painful from knee replacement surgery, I was told " she showed you how to do it" before reluctantly helping me. I was told the night before my discharge that an aide, who was one of the few kind individuals there, would help bathe me and wash my hair before my discharge that morning. When she didn't show up, a different aide came in and told me that I would not be getting bathed because I had gotten bathed theday before! She seemed to really enjoy telling me that! Eventually, I was helped with bathing by the kind aide. A walker was ordered for me for my day of discharge. I had only used a walker during my weeklong stay. When my walker hadn't arrived 15 minutes before my Ambulette was set to come, I was informed that I would not be getting a walker because I got one in 2023! I was discharged shakily with a cane that I had not practiced with at all. And last, but not least, was the horrendous, vile, unhealthy food that was served. Inedible! After my week stay at Mary Manning, I felt broken.

It all started when I…read morebroke my leg in three places this March, landed in hospital(Cornell Weill which was phenomenal care), was recommended to this center. After so much meds, I was very nervous, I never even visited a center like this before, but no worries, my anxieties were eased by ALL the staff at this center! Ok, here it goes: Intake: smooth and flexible, I was in a priv room, Brandon greeted me at the front desk, and was friendly and reassuring, he offered me laundry services up front, made the arrival easy/smooth. Nurses Aids: The best care for the 3rd floor, Jean, Patricia, Ms. Baxter Margaret, and ALL the aides could not be more compassionate, very attentitive to our needs, and cleanliness. Response time when ringing was immediate. The kindness is unparalleled. Housekeeping: Desmond/ crew kept the rooms, all areas, spotless, every vent was cleaned, all floors shined, all bathrooms were impecably cleaned with germ killing agents that were safe. Linens, blankets were changed DAILY, beds were made while you ate or went to therapy. HOTEL SERVICE! Nurses: on top of their game! They medicated according to orders, when I felt off, they would address meds immediately , worked with docs to update notes asap, KINDNESS is the key word, sympathetic to pain and discomfort and advised where allowed/necessary. Haisley, Danielle, D.J. and Winston were like family! Doctors and nurse practitioners: ALSO on their game, and Ignatius the nurse pract. for our floor did his rounds and addressed all concerns with professionalism and again, kindness. Physcial and OT : Again it could not be better, they really encouraged me to meet my goals so i could go home...especially, Maria, Billie, and Alice really got me moving and were key to help me heal faster, my doctor even responded that she was impressed with my progress. If I said "I can't" they kindly replied "YES YOU CAN!" Social programming: to keep my spirits up, Brandon and Brian made it fun during activities, yes , even during Bingo, they are true positive motivators and kept my positivity flowing! I love you guys! Management: Thank you Clarissa and Rachel for listening to me, Clarissa you are a true leader, calm, and a great listener. Psychology/Psychiatry: Thank you Anthony for listening to my angst when I got there, and I look forward to future sessions, THE THIRD FLOOR ROCKS! Sorry, my photos wont load, there is too many of them , good ones! Readers, if you have to go to rehab in NYC, this is it! I give this more than 5 STARS!

I cannot share enough kind words about Ozanam Hall of Queens NY. After a recent stroke and a twelve…read moreday hospital stay, my dad went to Ozanam for rehabilitative services. My family didn't place dad there blindly, it was by choice, after weighing all the options. We have a family member who is a long term resident there currently as well as a long time family friend who is there too. They love the care they receive and the staffers they receive it from. Their recommendations were well received. From the moment I entered the front door and was greeted by the front desk attendant Lana, I knew dad was in a great, loving, caring and Holy place. I went up to dad's floor, was greeted by every staff member I passed. Not just on my first visit, but every visit. No matter how busy they were, every single person said hello. As time went on, those greetings were by name. It truly felt like dad was being cared for by loving family. My visits only lasted a week or so as I live about 700 miles away, but my experience and my opinions of my dad's treatment are fact based. He could not have received better care anywhere else. The facility was spotless, well maintained and the staff all love why they do. It takes a special kind of person to do this work. Ozanam is blessed with the best. Ozanam is even updating the rooms one floor at a time. It's nice to see the investment back into the facilities. The office staff was extremely helpful, kind and very communicative. They assisted in every way possible, making the daunting logistics of dealing with the insurance companies a less daunting part of the experience. I could not ask for better! I'd like to name everyone I met there who cared for me dad and assisted my family throughout, but I would have to name every person in the public eye as well as everyone behind the scenes there. By God's plan, my dad, Donald B. declined due to advancing medical conditions. He received great personal care and was treated with dignity up to and beyond when he took his final breath. He passed on Sept 22, peacefully in his sleep. The staffers who knew him were as sad as we are. Thank you to everyone at Ozanam Hall of Queens for all you do for every person in your care every day. May continue to God bless you all. Please keep doing what you do!!! You all are absolutely incredible. Rest easy dad! God's got you!

However, our interaction with the administrative staff and social work staff was a very bad experience. As Social worker myself I understand a nursing home social worker is the bottom rung of social work . My family member was ready to be discharged on Wednesday. However she was then told that she had to wait a few days for discharge so a care plan could be completed. To the layman that sounds reasonable, yet to a veteran it means they wish to maximize their insurance payments and virtually held my family member against their will. When I confronted the Administrator, Scott, refused to give his last name, acted like a sleazy thug. The senior Social worker could not explain her actions and somehow was able to get the discharge done on Wednesday. We were knowledgeable but a layman will be exploited. The food was so bad I had to buy meals outside and bring them in because the food is inedible! Don't put your loved one here

Attached tubes to veiny bodies, hollowed screams down long halls and the empty eyes fluttering about are all abound.
