Without any reservations, my wife and I would recommend Tom Bridgeman and Brighton Builders to anyone considering building a custom home in the Myrtle Beach area. We interviewed several builders in the area prior to making a decision on which builder to hire. After having two other custom homes built in the past, we had a fairly strong idea of what we were looking for in our beach home builder. Tom checked off a lot of boxes on my checklist. He provided a detailed explanation of the services his company would provide during the home building process. He included the types of materials he would be using, a detailed schedule of the stages of the construction process starting with the permitting process and ending with the completed home, and a comprehensive spreadsheet to show the task completion process and the charges associated with each stage. He even shared that while we could expect bumps in the process, it was going to be his job to smooth them out.
During the construction of our home, we experienced a major bump. As the roof trusses were being installed, a crane fell crushing our fully framed home. Tom was true to his word on smoothing out the bumps. He handled every aspect of the clean up and re-framing our home. It costs us no additional money, Tom dealt with the headaches, and we still received the keys to a beautiful and well built home. As with any new construction, there was a percentage of scratches and bumps. Tom handled all the items on our punch list like a pro.
Tom proved to be highly knowledgeable and provided great suggestions on things we should consider for our home. He provided many cost saving tips that helped us control the budget while achieving a high end look. He was very responsive when I had questions, concerns, or was making choices on features and finishes to be used. He never failed to be reachable when I had a question. Even when I didn't make a call, Tom reached out to me with weekly calls for updates and information. My wife was entirely satisfied with the choices of items such as flooring, cabinets, fixtures, counters, lights, and finishes. Tom has a "samples showroom" in his home that offers better choices than the big box stores.
While we were interviewing builders, we stated that we were planning to use builder grade finishes in our home, such as carpet floors, laminate, and price conscious fixtures. We were planning to keep the cost low. When we talked to Tom we shared the same information. Tom showed us that he could compete with the other builders in price while providing much better quality. He was more than right. He built us a house with premium fixtures and finishes for several thousand dollars less than the closest competitor that priced builder grade materials.
