Locally, they have a pre-school and elementary school that services deaf, hearing-impaired, and fully-hearing individuals. On the newborn, infant, and toddler side, they provide auditory testing and have a parent-infant program that provides on-going auditory, guidance, and device services locally and across Texas. All the children at the school looked happy and supported by their teachers and classmates. Although we are not official participants of any their programs, we were invited to their Christmas program and parenting sessions.

Until this current school year, we were satisfied with our experience. In fact, we actively recommended them to other families. I can no longer do so in good conscience. Distance learning during a pandemic is difficult for all involved, both staff and students. My daughter began this school year doing distance learning. She was not doing well at all; she struggled. We requested extra help for her in the form of a detailed daily schedule to follow, since both parents are also working full time. The school instead gave her daily one-on-one time with the founder, Ms. Betty. Even with this daily help, our daughter was not completing her work, so her father and I were spending evenings checking on her assignments in Google Classroom. During this checking, we came across a story that had been assigned to my daughter's class for a reading comprehension assignment. This appalling story is shown in the pictures attached to this review. After a moment of "does that really say what I think it says?!?", my husband and I decided to email the school's administration and the classroom teacher. We were already very frustrated because of our daughter's distance learning issues, so my email was direct and to the point. This is racist. It is unacceptable. Why is your school using a 50 year old reading curriculum? What other overtly racist stories are in this curriculum? Why isn't the classroom teacher reading what she is assigning to students? I expected to receive an apology and a solution. What we got instead was the most unprofessional email I have ever seen to come from a school administrator. The administrator agreed to research a new reading program to purchase based on the age of the materials, but then told us that we had accused them personally of being racist and that that was offensive. No apologies for the content of the story. No "oh my goodness, I didn't realize that was in there". No admission that the story was unacceptable. Just defensiveness and blame-shifting. We requested to be released from our Spring tuition contract, and that request was granted. We withdrew our daughter and enrolled her in public school. We had paid our tuition in full through December, so we are out several thousand dollars, but felt that this was the right course of action given the circumstances. For the record, we do not accuse any individual of personally being racist. However, racist materials were clearly present in their curriculum and were distributed to students. We believe other parents should be aware of this incident when they are making decisions about how to educate their children.

I always felt rushed to go pick him up, because I didn't always feel comfortable with having him stay longer than needed, I ALWAYS had to hear every little thing he did wrong everyday. Some examples of his behaviors were going into an empty room, not being on line, small things in my opinion. I was extremely disappointed with how Julie Ford handled my situation. After the pandemic and school was staring back up, I had my heart set on him going back here and she rejected him coming back. I called and asked if my spot was still saved, because I payed my money and was never late! She was extremely hesitant on accepting him back! Shame on you! I am a single mom and have zero family here or help! This place was my only place! I just want people to know that if you have a neurotypical child, you are welcomed here! So, if you have Carrot or Maven as a benefit from your employer and you are looking for birth or postpartum doula, look no further than Rooted because they have many doulas you can interview and consider. Second, their office manager Yoly is incredibly helpful and responsive. She always answered my emails quickly and thoroughly. It is clear that her goal is to ensure that moms are supported. You can go to Yoly for any problem or issue, and she resolves them very efficiently and effectively. Third, my doulas Gabrielle and Mercedes were incredible! Gabrielle was my night doula for 8 weeks, and I cannot say enough good things about her. Because of Gabrielle, my breastfeeding journey has been easy and enjoyable (I exclusively pumped with my first)! Not only does she have the knowledge and experience but she has instincts to help you successfully breastfeed. I can honestly say that out of all the lactation consultants that I have seen in both my pregnancies, Gabrielle is the absolute best! Specifically, Gabrielle was able to help with positioning and latching, and she taught me how to use a haaka so that I could catch milk without having to pump. To date, I have not pumped, and yet, I have so much frozen milk thanks to Gabrielle's insight and assistance. She is also just wonderful and a bright light to any household she joins. She supports you during this vulnerable time and really sets you up for success as a mom. I was very sad to say goodbye to Gabrielle, and I know that any family who welcomes her into their home will be in great hands. Mercedes provided me with day and postpartum services. Although I was only able to work with her for 3 weeks, she is so wonderful and has been such an integral reason for my smooth recovery! Her passion is postpartum nutrition, and she is extremely knowledgeable about this topic. If nutrition is your focus when looking for a postpartum doula, then you should work with Mercedes! She knows all the delicious foods to support you in your healing and breastmilk production. I can personally attest that her lactation cookies are delicious! Mercedes also went above and beyond during all of her shifts. She cares for all her moms and babies, and you feel that she is just an extension of your family. I can go on and on about Gabrielle and Mercedes. Because of them, my husband and I were able to enjoy this postpartum period, and I will be forever grateful for everything that they have done.
