Unfortunately, many of those opportunities were later rescinded due to the company's financial limitations. While I understand that businesses evolve, the inconsistency between what was offered and what was actually supported created a lot of confusion and disappointment. One of the biggest challenges was the lack of communication and alignment between the two owners. I received approvals directly from the CEO to begin work in another city and state, only to be told later by the co-owner that I could not move forward--after I had already made commitments based on the original approval. This kind of back-and-forth made it difficult to feel secure or valued as an employee. Additionally, I was promised compensation for marketing work, company referrals, and hours toward my BCaBA supervision. These were never honored. I was later told I'd need to seek supervision hours outside the company, even though the internal policy stated that if I left within 12 months of earning my credentials, I'd be responsible for paying back the cost of supervision. This felt contradictory and unfair--especially since I wasn't receiving the support or training promised in the first place. More concerning is that I've had to take steps to file a claim for unpaid wages. No employee should have to fight to be paid for time they legitimately worked. BrightMinds is a small company with fewer than 10 employees. While small businesses can be amazing places to grow, it's essential that they operate with transparency, mutual respect, and financial responsibility. I believe the CEO/BCBA has a genuine heart for clients and staff, but the internal dynamics seem heavily influenced by one-sided decision-making. Until the owners are fully aligned and the company can consistently support its staff--financially and professionally--it will be difficult for it to succeed long-term. I'm sharing this review not out of bitterness, but in the hope that future employees are treated fairly and that the company takes real steps to improve its internal processes and communication. My advice to anyone looking to apply is to ask questions, make written notes about everything, record everything, and confirm everything so that way everyone is on the same page. Their business has the potential to grow, but first they have to stop getting in their own way. A typical day at work: A typical day involved working directly with clients, implementing ABA therapy plans, collecting data, and communicating with families. The work itself was rewarding, and seeing client progress was always fulfilling. However, due to frequent changes in scheduling and inconsistent communication from leadership, it could sometimes feel disorganized and unclear. What I believe I learned: I gained valuable hands-on experience with behavior intervention strategies and learned how to build rapport with both clients and families. I also learned a lot about flexibility and adaptability--sometimes more than I expected--due to the unpredictable nature of internal decisions. Management: Management needs improvement. The two owners often seemed to be on different pages, which created confusion and tension across the team. Approvals were sometimes reversed, and expectations would shift without clear explanation. This inconsistency made it difficult to feel secure or supported in my role. Workplace culture: The workplace culture was a mix. On one hand, there was a genuine passion for helping clients, and some coworkers were incredibly supportive. On the other, there was a lack of structure and follow-through from leadership, which negatively impacted morale. Promises were made but not always kept, and concerns often went unaddressed. The hardest part of the job: The hardest part was dealing with the lack of follow-through on commitments from leadership--whether it was about compensation, training opportunities, or career advancement. Having to advocate for myself just to get clarity or proper compensation became emotionally exhausting. The mission and vision presented to me were inspiring, and I believed I was joining a place where both staff and clients were truly supported. Unfortunately, my experience revealed several serious concerns that future employees and families should be aware of when considering this organization. Inconsistencies in Promises and Practice One of the most challenging aspects of my time at BrightMinds was the disconnect between what was promised and what was actually delivered. Opportunities that were initially offered--including expanded responsibilities, compensation for marketing and referrals, and supervised fieldwork hours--were either revoked without clear explanation or never honored at all. Supervision and Compensation Concerns I was assured that I would receive BCaBA supervision hours internally, only to be informed later that I would need to seek supervision outside of the company. Even more concerning was the policy stating that if I left the company within 12 months of obtaining my certification, I would be financially responsible for those supervision hours--despite not receiving the promised support in the first place. On top of that, I had to take formal steps to pursue unpaid wages, which no employee should ever have to do. Compensation for completed work should never be in question. Culture and Day-to-Day Experience There is no denying that the work itself--providing ABA therapy and seeing client progress--was incredibly fulfilling. I had the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on children's lives and work alongside some truly dedicated colleagues. However, the lack of structure and follow-through from leadership created a workplace culture that often felt unstable and reactive rather than supportive and proactive. A Call for Improvement I do believe that the CEO/BCBA has a genuine heart for the mission and for the families served. However, passion alone cannot sustain a company. Operational and managerial accountability, clear communication, and consistent support for staff are critical. Until those foundations are established and consistently upheld, BrightMinds will continue to face internal challenges that limit its potential for sustainable growth. The ABA industry is currently flooded with private equity-backed agencies that prioritize billable hours over clinical quality. BrightMinds is the exact opposite.
