The staff is nice as well, even late into the night. If the party's gone dry, you need a late night sugar fix, or are just in search of this week's Vogue, Ken's will likely have it. The apple cider vinegar I purchased was clearly labeled $8.19, but I was charged $11.89 at the register -- $3.70 more than the displayed price. I politely brought the discrepancy to the associate's attention. He told me that management was not there and that he could refund the purchase, but he could not adjust the price to the price displayed on the shelf. Because I actually needed the item at that moment and did not have a practical alternative nearby, I paid the higher price. What disappointed me most was how the situation was handled. Pricing mistakes can happen. But when a customer points out a clear discrepancy, I would expect the business to acknowledge it and make a reasonable effort to correct it -- not simply give the customer the choice of paying the higher price or leaving without the product. To be clear, my concern is not the $3.70 itself or whether I could afford the item. It is the principle. If an item is displayed at $8.19, a customer should not discover at checkout that they are actually being charged $11.89. Customers deserve to make purchasing decisions based on accurate pricing. What made this especially frustrating is that this is a downtown neighborhood market serving an area with limited walkable grocery options. When customers rely on a convenient neighborhood store, accurate and transparent pricing matters even more. Being charged substantially more at the register than the displayed price -- and then being told the only option was a refund rather than correcting the discrepancy -- left me feeling taken advantage of as a customer. I understand that small businesses have expenses and that downtown pricing may be higher than larger grocery stores. That is the business's choice. Charge whatever price you choose -- just clearly display that price so customers can decide whether they want to pay it. I have photos showing the $8.19 displayed price and my receipt showing the $11.89 price I was actually charged. I support local businesses and do not leave negative reviews lightly. This isn't about being unwilling or unable to pay a higher price. It is about accurate pricing, transparency, and how a legitimate customer concern was handled. I sincerely hope management addresses both the pricing discrepancy and how situations like this are handled going forward.
