We were very excited to have our labradoodle stay here. The issue was that kennel consisted of a series of outdoor / indoor cages with their bull mastiffs in parallel chain linked cages. As we pulled up, the dogs were barking and biting at each other though the fences. This might be totally fine if your dog mostly lives outside and is used to being around large barking dogs. This is not the case with our coddled, living room dwelling labradoodle. The reason I gave three stars is that there was no was for us to know this before we pulled up.

I am currently serving in the Army, and for the last three consecutive reunions, training, deployments, or other responsibilities have kept me from seeing my extended family. My fiancée and I have two young puppies, and we wanted to make sure that they were boarded in a comfortable facility close to the reunion. A quick Google search showed me that the Paws Here pet resort in Oglesby fit the bill. The problem was that they closed at six PM even though it was located at a private residence. My chain of command promised that we would be released at noon on Friday, giving me ample time to get there, but nonetheless, I called to verify that we could drop our dogs off later if necessary. Long story short, one of my Soldiers was having a pay issue, and I was forced to stay at work later than expected so that he and his family could pay their bills that weekend. Once we were on the road, we called Paws Here to let them know that we would be coming in late, and the underlying circumstances therein. Their tone was markedly different. They got back to us an hour later to tell us that we would have to wait till 0830 the next day to drop off our dogs, thereby throwing a huge wrench into our plans. We were debating between sleeping in shifts with the dogs in the parking lot, driving to a relative's house 40 minutes north of the park, or finding a different hotel that allowed pets when my uncle located the Starved Rock Pet Resort. We called them and let them know about our situation. We received clear, concise directions to their facility, and dropped our dogs off around 930 PM. The owners were very kind, and asked numerous questions about our dogs' individual behavioral quirks. Their facility was very clean and well maintained, and we felt very comfortable leaving our dogs there. The owner called us twice the next day to let us know that our dogs were settling in nicely. When we picked them up on Sunday morning, our dogs were relaxed and happy. Overall, it was a great experience for both us and our dogs. Other relatives of mine are now considering boarding their dogs here rather than leaving them at home. Guess which of the two pet boarding facilities they will be using?

I don't think he pooped the entire time he was there because the minute I got him home he pooped 5 times. I packed pre packaged food for him with instructions on only many times a day he was to be fed and he missed at least 4 meals. I was told he "wasn't eating" which is BS because when I called to check on him and asked if he was eating I was told the standard "he's eating fine" so they either lied or didn't bother following my directions. Plus they lost a $10 bone I have left with his toys. I don't think they played with him at all.

We thought all was well, the owner John Quinn assured us the dog would be removed permanently, but that wasn't true. My girl experienced trauma from the attack and I didn't want a reoccurrence so we had to withdraw her from attending. We just recently tried to take her to another facility, but unbeknownst to us she was removed from the system. Now the process has to start from scratch because the facility manager at Plainfield will not communicate with another facility to validate my girl. I don't want to speak ill of the situation, but my rating speaks for itself. My girl deserved better!

Our dogs stayed at Sweet Paws from 5/22-5/31/2026. When I picked them up their beds were covered in…read moredry urine (not a fresh accident) which is not common behavior for them. Their nails which I paid to be trimmed were still very long and they appeared to be highly stressed. The treats we sent for them were also untouched. I contacted Sweet paws the next day to get a better understanding of what happened. When speaking with their staff I was informed that my dogs nails were cut with a dull dremel and they just got a new one if I wanted to bring them back "for free" and also that they urinated their beds nightly. Being that this is highly unusual behavior I asked for more information on their bathroom schedule and was told the last opportunity they are given to use the washroom is between 530-6pm and then everyone leaves for the night and doesn't return until 6am. They informed me they know this is a long time and are trying to get more staff to stay later which does nothing for my dogs that spent 9 nights alone for 12 hours without the opportunity to use the washroom or be cared for. This is cruel and neglectful at the very least. It is widely known that dogs should not be left alone for 12 hours physiologically and mentally, being that your business is caring for animals, you should absolutely know better and to chose to run your business this way is negligent. Update: I spoke with Terry who manages Sweet Paws along with several other facilities but typically lives out of state. I was informed this is industry standard for dogs to be left extended periods of time without the opportunity to use the washroom, and that other facilities are not likely not being truthful if they say otherwise. Terry was misinformed about my dog's neutered status and suggested that not being neutered is the reason for their accidents (both of my dogs are neutered and have been since I adopted them). Heavy focus of the conversation was "educating" me on what the norm is for boarding facilities since my dogs have never boarded before despite having explained I have family who have a history of working in the business for many years. Terry suggested that I never board my dogs again anywhere. When I would repeat back information that was told to me I was told I was twisting their words instead of highlighting issues in the information that was being told to me. For example, I was told word for word that they don't have staff later because in the past staff that stayed later did nothing. When I replied that is an internal management issue and should not fall on the customer or pets, I was told I was twisting her words. In the end Terry did say she would bring this concern to the owners and see how they could improve but it's hard to believe since I was told over and over that this is the standard and I should not have expected more. What I hoped for was an honest apology and understanding that this is not okay. What I received was an apology quickly followed up by excuses and repeatedly told "this is the norm" Terry encouraged me to not beat myself up and to be grateful they are okay because some facilities lose the dogs in their care. So you can take information as their bottom line. At the end of the day, if you get your dog back that should be enough.

I told them, when I dropped him off that they were not to shave him, no cutting of his fur less than two inches and repeated this multiple times. They shaved unevenly on his butt and to the skin on the inside of back legs and left long hair on both rear legs, he also has a sore on his butt after grooming, so I had to take him to the vet. The owner said she'd send vet bill to insurance (couldn't say how long that would take) but would not give me a refund. Vet said it will take months for regrowth of his fur and now he has nothing to protect his skin on his back end.
