If I could give this facility zero stars, I would. My family entrusted this facility with the care…read moreof my grandfather during the final days of his life, and what we experienced was heartbreaking. The facility was filthy. There was what appeared to be a blood stain on the floor, the sink was covered with grime and trash, flies were flying around inside the facility, and the walls were caked with dust. The overall cleanliness was completely unacceptable for any healthcare setting, especially one providing end-of-life care. We were told my grandfather would receive 24-hour care, yet we found him left unattended in the common area, without clothing from the waist down and covered only by a thin blanket. No patient deserves to be treated with such a lack of dignity, especially someone in hospice care. The room he was assigned to housed three other patients. There was no privacy, no peace, and no sense of comfort. End-of-life care should provide compassion, dignity, and a calm environment for patients and their families. This facility provided none of those things. We ultimately transferred my grandfather to another hospice provider where he was given a private, peaceful room and received the compassionate care he deserved. The difference in the quality of care and environment was night and day. Based on our experience, I would never recommend this facility to anyone. The conditions we witnessed were shocking and unacceptable for a place responsible for caring for vulnerable patients. Families should not have to worry about basic cleanliness, dignity, and compassionate care during one of the most difficult times of their lives. I sincerely hope no other family has to experience what ours did.

When I arrived, I was surprised to find that they weren't even in their room. They were out on the porch enjoying the scenery and landscaping. My grandpa was telling me about all of the birds he's been watching for the past few weeks. I haven't seen them so happy in such a long time. I'm forever thankful for Oakwood Garden of Deland. PLUS: This is a very secured nursing home. There wasn't a single exit that didn't need a code to get through. This is wonderful since my grandpa has dementia and is always talking about "Escaping Jail." The Bad: The aisle ways are constantly crowded with residents, carts, and personnel. Its a challenge to walk through.

If you don't believe me then walk in unannounced and then ask your loved ones what they really think of this place.
