I have used Bridge taxis for the first time this evening although my parents have used them several times with no complaint. We booked our taxi for 12.30 am at 11.40pm, by 12.45 there was no sign of a taxi, so we phoned and got a lovely guy who said it would be there shortly.
We were aware that a Saturday night in December was going to be busy so we weren't too worried but at 01.10 phoned back and were told that the taxi had just dropped off in mossley and would be with us in 5 minutes, we were told the same thing at 01.25, at 01.35 the driver had stopped for petrol and was on his way up, at 01.45 when I phoned back and asked the controller to radio the driver while I was on the phone, he couldn't radio the driver as his radio was broken. When I asked how he had contacted him before to find out all the excuses, it was disclosed they had been texting each other.
Well it suddenly became clear, because I know that you aren't allowed to use a mobile phone when you are driving, and taxi drivers certainly wouldn't so obviously all that pulling over to text would have been the reason for the delays, and now that all that had been sorted out it would be less than 10 minutes til we got home. I asked if I could speak to a manager, because although we had now established that even though he was being very aware of driving safely, I still wasn't happy with the service. Well didn't it only turn out that the lovely guy who had answered all of my phone calls was the manager, so I didn't have to relay any of this information to him, because he knew all about the poor driver with the broken radio and no petrol. He was adamant that the taxi was all sorted and would be there within 5 minutes. At 01.55 I phoned back again and got a lovely young lady this time, I thanked her for not being the same person I had spoken to every time, explained that I was ringing from the address the taxi was ordered for and asked her could she give me anymore information as to what the holdup was this time, I kid you not her exact words " It'll be 5 minutes" and she hung up the phone.
We had come to the conclusion that the taxi wasn't coming and had already tried to phone several other firms with no joy, (did I mention that the chances of getting a taxi at short notice on a Saturday night are slimmer than winning the Jackpot 2 weeks in a row?) As luck would have it the lovely people at Abbey managed to get us a taxi (Yes I have bought 5 lucky dips for next weeks draw already) and they had dispatched it right then so it would be there very soon. As we were trying to get through to either the lovely manager guy or the lovely lady at Bridge to cancel a taxi we were no longer actually expecting to arrive, a Christmas miracle happened early and lo and behold our Bridge taxi arrived. If I thought the competition was going to work I would have phoned Abbey 2 hrs before.
I wasn't actually in any mood to give this company my money and we had booked another taxi, so I explained to the driver that we wouldn't be using his taxi, and realised that Santa must have arrived to his car early because his radio was buzzing and flickering and hissing away and generally making all the noises that a broken radio doesn't. When I explained what had happened, the driver himself stated "thats a f%$#ing disgrace", a sentiment which I have to admit was stated a few times by all of us waiting for the taxi to arrive, and he also informed me that he had only got the booking 2 minutes before. I apologised for him driving all the way up, and told him he should take it up with the lovely manager, he apologised for us having to wait so long, which was actually the first and last apology we received.
Best part of the night, the Abbey taxi we had booked not even 10 minutes before turned up just after I had told the other driver we didn't need him.
Now all through these interactions, I was perfectly reasonable and polite, I knew that it was a really busy night, and thinking it was at least partly a driver issue so not only was there no point in being a cheeky cow down the phone, I also didn't want them to cancel our taxi because we had no other way home, not one apology did I receive from dispatch, and although the manager was polite, he fobbed me off and outright lied on every phone call, and the one other staff member I got was frankly pig ignorant.
I rang after I eventually got home, and explained that I was really let down and frankly really glad we hadn't been waiting in Belfast for them, or even worse, someone standing on their own, I asked the guy for his name, and I am pretty sure that the name he gave was fake, ( may be a bit harsh, but that would have been the only truthful thing he had told me all night), I told him I would be contacting the owner/manager on Monday and that I would never use their company again, not really a big deal for them, but unfortunately it's the only means I have of venting my frustration. 5 STARS FOR ABBEY TAXIS :D read more
