    City Centre

As Tim M has mentioned, this pub stands proud on the edge of the city centre as if to remind folk…read morewhat a true pub is. From the outside it's true, it's a touch on the mucky side (perhaps being on top of the city loop road would be a big reason for that) but once you are through those doors the story is a very different one. The entire pub is linked in a circle, revolving around the bar, which makes for a rather quirky and exciting lay out. With shining quirky windows, original stained glass, newly polished woodwork, old school drapes and comfy padded seating this place is an excellent example of a proper cosy pub. There are little nooks all over the place, as well as a comfy well lit main room, and the selection of beverages are pure Sam Smiths. That means a few things. Number one, the cask ale was delightful as was the organic wheat beer. And number two - a round in here is seriously affordable. To top it off the wheat beer is being sold at half price in a promotional offer, that is, £1.34 for a pint. Oh yes, that's right. So, there's no music, plenty of rooms to have a good natter, friendly lovely staff (who talked with us a great deal as we were leaving about the place) and a selection of delicious drinks. Win all round! The only sad thing is that is would be the perfect place for a traditional jam session. I can see those cosy rooms filled with fiddle players, guitarists and cheer in the winter months, but alas, that's not to be. Still, there's no reason that we can't all go along for a pub quiz in its stead, a board game session, or even a bit of a poker match. We can be creative, but let's do it here - the pub's a gem.

Little things can mean a lot and this was certainly one such occasion. Thanks AXM, we all had a fantastic time with my personal highlight being the slow dance I had with a lady called John who had suspiciously large hands! Will in accordance with the doorman's advice next time- and there WILL be a next time!

Hmph! I was spurned here!…read more I took a stranger to a symphony concert, one I was looking forward to for months, because my friend flaked just an hour before because he forgot he had to star in a French play that night. The stranger oddly enough played bassoon in orchestras, and was a DJ. His name was ... something like Kieran but without all the vowels. Not Kyan. Ah, I blocked it out. Anyway, he told me to stop by his Saturday night DJ gig, so I did. It was full of 17 year-old girls and their not-yet-out boyfriends. K__ played "Brown Eyed Girl" (the *other* popular song that year, along with "Can't Get You Out of My Head") like a million times, so I left after a half hour. We did the little macho fist bump too. Then when I emailed him to go hang out, he gave the whole, "Not looking for more friends in my life," schtick. Dude. Like I even asked to be all attached to your hip, Krygyzstan.

Laying claims to being one of the country's oldest gay bars, this bar is unassuming from the outside and relaxed on the inside, with most of the space given over to dancing - something which happens here a hell of a lot. Open until 4am at the weekends with a mere £2 entry charge for latecomers, the clientele is a mix of young and old, gay and straight, all enjoying a night of attitude-free frolics fuelled by the cheap shots and doubles at the bar. A good bet if you're not ready to go home once the bars shut but not feeling up to full-on clubbing.

As they were carrying me I told them that I could walk, I was not struggling, I would leave myself. I was in a cubicle in the toilets with my friend, as we opened the door we were grabbed. We weren't in there for an excessive amount of time, just as long as it takes two people to piss. They bust my lip and dragged us out by our necks. My friend was short for breath. This was completely unnecessary and I will not be returning there again. I strongly advise against going to this night club! I will be making a formal complaint.
