Had a wonderful time watching the Richmond Ballet at the Dominion Energy Center! The building…read moreitself is stunning with a public lot right in front and a variety of garages surrounding it, parking was a breeze for our event. Walking in we were greeted by the wonderful attendants and our seats were surprisingly spacious in regards to leg room (we sat center orchestra Row J). Both my partner and I are tall so leg room is definitely a plus. The show was phenomenal and I feel so lucky to get to experience the arts here in Richmond! I would definitely reccomend a show here just for the ambiance alone, the theater inside is stunning with so many things to look at. Definitely arrive the 30 minutes prior to showtime to take in all of the sights.

Why is it that I always feel like I'm taking a flight when I go to see a show. This is absolutely true here as well. I'm at 6'3" and my neighbor was about that wide. To say it was an uncomfortable seat was a crazy understatement. Oh well, taking a cue from a discount airline: pack them in. I wouldn't be cranky if it was just the seat. The Roman empire did better in logistics for shows. Trying to go to the bathroom was a joke and don't even think of getting a drink during intermission. This place is just not laid out for a full show logistics. GO for the Nutcracker. Anything else, might not be worth the squeeze.

Took a guy to the Richmond Symphony (masterworks) -- hair/nails/makeup done, jewels, princess…read moregown... the works -- and he proposed marriage at the end of the night. True story. Now, you don't HAVE to do white tie for the symphony anymore. It's much more accessible these days. But you SHOULD! Or at least black tie. What I'm saying to you is the symphony is an experience. If you have any soul whatsoever, you will be moved. You will be inspired. You will be elevated to heights reserved for the divine. I realize that such high culture to most is seen as a luxury, but it's a luxury that we all deserve. If the masterworks is beyond your grasp, do a pops. The Richmond Symphony has something for everyone, and they do a good job of programming to meet different interests. They even have a Lolli"pops" for kids! Go. You're worth it.

What caught our attention was that it was a night of John Williams music, who you may recognize as the genius behind the Harry Potter, Star Wars, and ET scores. We're both obsessed with Harry Potter and Star Wars so this was the perfect opportunity to get our feet wet. They sent us an email the night before letting us know that it was a sold out show so the traffic would probably be bad. We pre-purchased parking in a nearby deck and off we went. I'm happy to report that logistically, the night couldn't have been better. We got a spot in the deck with no problem and walked up to the Carper Theatre. As we approached the building, we saw Star Wars characters outside greeting the people! How awesome. Yes, I am a child at heart and this brought me so much joy! I'll never grow up if I can help it! We took pictures with Darth Vader, Storm Troopers, R2-D2, and so much more. We got to our seats (which were in the pit section and super comfortable) and soaked up every minute of talent and beautiful music. My jaw was pretty much on the ground the entire time. I'm in awe of anyone who can play an instrument that beautifully, much less an entire symphony in perfect sync! Hearing the songs in the movies is one thing, but nothing compares to hearing them in person. I'll never forget this night and I can't wait to go back again and again.

From the outside, the building has this classic warehouse vibe that fits right in with the historic feel of the area. There's a big sign so you can't really miss it, and the overall look is super inviting if you're into that old-school industrial style. When you up to the entrance, you'll go up the stairs to find the staff checking your tickets. Once you're inside, the place opens up into a big, open floor plan with a solid mix of standing room and a few spots to sit along the wall. The layout works well for concerts, the sightlines are good, and everything feels close to the stage even if you're not right up front. The inside keeps that warehouse feel going. It's exposed brick, high ceilings, just a bit gritty in a cool way. The bar is off to the side and stretches pretty long, so grabbing a drink was quick! Bartenders were friendly and the drink selection covers the basics. Nothing wild, but you'll find everything you need for a good night out. I went to see Jutes for the first time, and it was such an awesome show. The energy in the room was electric, and the sound quality was surprisingly clear for a venue this size. Everyone seemed to be having a great time, and you could feel the crowd's excitement the whole set! This was definitely a solid spot for live music in Richmond. I love a small concert venue, and would definitely go back for another concert!
