Some day, a Logan Square hipster whose nose for craft beer is as a bloodhound's for deer will cross…read morethe tracks and realize that they have Revolution Anti-Hero and Gold Cross on tap here. If they bring volume geometry skills with them, they might be disappointed to realize that the consistently short pours here are much closer to 12 oz. (i.e. bottle/can size) than the full pint typical of draughts east of the tracks. Might as well settle for bottles and cans. But, a better reason to come here is because it's the kind of solid, friendly neighborhood bar which is becoming increasingly scarce to the east and it's not at all seedy like some spots on the western fringe of Logan Square that you might walk past to get here. Recently rehabbed from its prior incarnation as Trier's Lads, this is easily the best-kept bar within at least a mile west past Weegee's on Armitage. With numerous TVs there's not a bad seat in the house for watching a game (or horses at off-peak hours). Though Hermosa is a predominantly Latino neighborhood, English is the dominant language amongst the white & blue collar mix here, and this is your place to go if your Spanish isn't ready for La Posada across the street. So that's what they do here, they provide a social setting, they show sports on the television, and they serve beer. Friends for the friendless, drunkenness to the sober. If you happen to need something more, you can snack on the tasty plantain chips from La Casa Del Jibaro, stare at the disco ball, or reach into the box of free condoms provided courtesy of the Chicago Community Condom Project.

How haven't I reviewed Uncle Mike's yet? OK, so I live around the corner and may be biased as to…read morethis bar's excellence, but I don't think so. Uncle Mike's is a place that I didn't really pay much attention to when I moved into the neighborhood because I didn't really notice it. This place kind of gets lost in a sea of taquerias and cell phone stores on Armitage. I first came here for a Michigan basketball game in 2017. On a Sunday afternoon, the place was practically empty but all the TVs were available for whatever we wanted to watch. Steve, the owner, doesn't mind if you bring in outside food to eat (since they don't serve food) so we went across the street to our favorite burrito place and brought food back for the game. Drinks were cheap and everyone was really friendly. The owner, Steve, talked to us a few times and invited us back since he knew we lived close by. Every time I've come in since Steve recognizes me and stops and chats with me, which I appreciate. I love Uncle Mike's as a local Hermosa bar and will keep coming here as long as I'm in the neighborhood.

I'd seen this bar before, because it's only a drunken winter's night stumble down the street from…read moremy abode. But I never ventured in because of the infamous house of prostitution and bucket of blood bar named "La Ultima Barca" located at the other end of Drake, at Armitage, made me" weary", like Otis Redding sang in that song about "young girls wearing that same old shaggy dress" Then I met Steve (the owner) at a CAPS meeting and figured him an OK. guy because he was wearing a NY Yankee hat. I'm not much into baseball or baseball hats, but hey, if it's New York, then, it's cool. So one night I used it for my "third date is the charm spot". I have a method. My first and second date spots are always more upscale. The third date is a dive bar then back to my place to see what develops. Uhm, I had NO idea that Steve's is a gay Latino bar, with a few six foot tall trannies(who get the dance floor juke'n- tossed in the mix) until we walked through those swinging double western doors. Don't worry, they're straight friendly as long as you are gay friendly, which I and my date were. I guess there are tell tale signs of gayness, like the disco fortified juke box ( hello Donna Summers, I missed you!) and the tiny plywood "dance hall" in the back with the disco ball hanging down from the rafters. Oh it's an interesting place y'all. Including Steve's U.S Marine full dress uniform hung behind the bar, I guess no one asked so Steve didn't tell. There are a few gangbangers who hang out two blocks down (by Simon's Park) but they don't come in and are always respectful of the place, probably because they have some family members who hang out there on the "low low". The regulars are real friendly and they do have beer and mixed drinks, but I'd stick with the beer. If you're hungry then there is canned spam, which I guess is a Puerto Rican treat. I took a pass on the spam. Steve also owns the laundry mat next door and has a camera in the bar so you can keep an eye on your clothes while you drink to make sure no body steals them. Yes my friends, Steve's has all the makings of an amazing and diverse dive bar

I could even hear the disrespectful tone over the phone, which was upsetting enough that I went in myself to confirm the order and pick it up. When I asked to speak with a manager or owner, I was told the cook in the back was the owner. I explained that employees in the service industry should treat all customers with professionalism and respect, especially paying ones. The way the bartender spoke to my son was completely unacceptable. To make matters worse, the food was awful. The burger was not made as ordered, the fries were soggy, the Brussels sprouts were burnt beyond eating, and the brisket was soggy and flavorless. This was one of the worst dinners we've had and a total waste of money. Between the poor customer service and the terrible food quality, I will not be returning--and I feel others should know what kind of experience they may face here.

Our bartender was super friendly and talked about the items on the menu that she suggested. I ended up getting the blackened tilapia tacos. They were a good deal for only $8. My husband my husband got the barbecue cheeseburger, for $10. We both ended up getting beers. They have rotating beer. For happy hour they also have a beer and a shot for $6 . Overall we were very happy with our food the price the atmosphere. Burger was good and tacos were seasoned right. Sound system and available games make this a nice chill sports lounge. While this was our 1st time it definitely will not be our last time. This is good Bang for your dollar value. Will come back when I don't feel like cooking.

This was my first time ordering food! Barbacoa nachos: Decent app to share! Good amount of meat. Buffalo chicken nuggets: These caught me by surprise. These were honestly really good! All in all, I think you can definitely get your moneys worth and it wasn't crazy busy for a buffet set up. Was it the best food I've ever had... no but as to be expected for a bar brunch. They did have a decent number of options and they kept the buffet refilled really well. They also had a omelette station which I appreciated. They even allowed me to build my own egg white omelette. As for the drinks, this is one of few boozy brunches where you can order straight drinks instead of mixed drinks. In Chicago a lot of times you get mimosas or a cocktail that are totally watered down, but here you could get seltzers, beer, and sparkling rosé, and our waitress was excellent in keeping us topped off. Overall, we would definitely come back!
