Everything was ready for us when we showed up - the leaves, the base, and the frame were all cut out, we just had to choose our techniques and colors we wanted to use. The woman helping us was AWESOME! She showed us how to do different things to achieve interesting effects on the wood. I loved that they had plenty of examples all around the space so you could look at things and be like - I want to try that technique, or, I like that color combination. The environment was fun and relaxing. They give you an apron, and you sit on a stool at a very large worktable. They sell snacks, or you can bring your own, but we had just finished eating, so we were good. There was also an Intro to Mah Jong class going on while we worked, so it was fun listening to that. Our projects turned out awesome, and it was fun to be able to bring something home with us as soon as it was done.

You get to choose which type of project you do, wall sign, tray, etc. and you choose your design and paint colors. All of the choices are a little overwhelming but they'll help you along the way. The workshop was 3 hours long but we needed more time to complete it and there was some waiting throughout the process because of paint drying, the staff helping others, etc. It's a lot of fun and I would definitely do it again. It can be a little pricey depending on what project you pick. I do wish they sold drinks, at least water, so bring your own.

I thought the security was visible from the metal detection at the entrance to the sheriff officer by the desk. Once inside, the children area is located just to the right. It was very clean and an employee was consistently reshelving books that the kids took off the shelf to look at. There are two computers in the children's area to explore learning activities. The seating/furniture was okay but not super kid friendly. I would have liked to see some bean bag chairs or a carpeted area for a casual relaxed reading. It was not crowded at all just after the lunch hour and it was a good time for all of us.

The children's area is almost nonexistent and the lack of parking is still an issue. This location is the most convenient to my house, but I would rather drive further to the Jan Platt library because there is plenty of parking, a larger selection of books, and there is an incredible children's section that is walled off so you don't have to worry about young children disturbing the peace at the library. This is one of the smallest libraries in Tampa so chances are that they won't carry the book(s) that you're looking for.

This is definitely more of a community than a gym…read more I signed up for a membership at the JCC North and we get four free passes a month to go to this JCC. I really wish it was closer, because I looked at the schedule of exercise classes and wow there are a lot. They are at all hours and all different types. It's phenomenal. The day I went there was some sort of coffee happy hour happening with coffee and food. It really looks like they're trying to build a community here, which is great. The woman working the front desk was so friendly. They have locker rooms that have keypads on the locks, which made them really easy to use. The towels are great and they have blow dryers, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, the standard stuff. At 5:30 p.m. on a Monday it wasn't crowded at all. The gym is on the smaller side, it wraps around the indoor track/basketball court, but for the amount of people there it doesn't seem small at all. I walked on a treadmill and used the free weights. I passed by the cafe, which had a small but mighty looking menu. I would definitely stop by and grab a bite here. I've also attended a gala and a conference here before and I found them both well done. There's tons of parking, with a guard (only one entrance off of Howard).

Additionally, if you want to hear lots of private conversations via mobile phone, you will have the opportunity to listen to rude members of this community center talk on their phones in the gym. Even though there are signs everywhere, asking members not to conduct private phone conversations on their mobile device. It is very frustrating that I pay for a membership when I cannot use the facilities due to rude people sitting on workout machines or benches while they surf the Internet on their phones or have phone conversations while not using the machines they are sitting on, preventing other members from being able to use the weightlifting machines. Additionally, the staff of the community center does nothing to prevent this from happening.

Florida is and has always been dedicated to the preservation and rescue and Rehabilitation of the marine species and environment. The drive out here is something. Literally no fish whatsoever. You walk around the tank as you walk around the aquarium there are window all the way around, but again, the tank was completely empty. There were other areas of the aquarium that were under construction due to either renovations or expansion. Due to this there were multiple enclosures that had no fish are animals to view. It's a little disappointing when you are traveling for vacation and the aquarium was the place that your daughter was looking forward to the most. All this while still charging full price for admission. All that being said, they have a very friendly and informed staff and volunteers that clearly do a lot for the marine life. It is very commendable the way they are nursing injured marine life back to health. Definitely more of a rescue center than an aquarium.

In fact, the only reason I found out was because I went to look up their curriculum after I scheduled a tour. The Google description, underneath the website link, had a tiny little piece of info that let me know they were faith-based. I went and searched on EVERY SINGLE PAGE from their website for words that would let me know they were faith-based and found absolutely nothing. I don't write this because I have something against religions. I don't and I hold fast to my own. What I take issue with is purposefully hiding a religious agenda in order to rope people in and proselatize. That is unethical and misleading to a prospective parent. Something that BIG should be talked about on the 'home' page and 'about' page of their website at the very least. How did I confirm what I learned? Because I sent an email to the administrative office and they confirmed that prayer is taught throughout the day and that children attend chapel weekly. There is nothing wrong with doing those things. It's probably a wonderful, spiritual guide for a child who's family wants them brought up in that faith. But if you are faith-based, PLEASE don't hide it. Please be very clear about it so that the people you serve can find you and the people you don't can search elsewhere.
