We are a retired couple living in Kailua Kona the pass five years. During a bit over three of…read morethose years we utilized another dentist of which we were not liking. Dr Walker was recommended to us by close friends almost two years ago and we are so appreciative of his dental care, hygienist and that of his very friendly, professional staff. His expertise and recommendations have been consistently of the highest quality and detail. We are so grateful to have him as our dentist. Hoping he will continue his dental services for years to come. We highly recommend Dr. Walker and Kona Smiles.

This is my second review ever, because I will only do this for truly outstanding experiences. I…read morecan't possibly say enough good about this place. I had crown prep work done at a different local office that went terribly. I was flying out for a wedding 2 days after my front tooth temp crown fell of for the second time in as many days (and it never looked all that good to begin with). I was in pain and feeling real gross looking. I called Dr. Walker's office from a friend's recommendation, and was worked in for a late same day consult. Dr. Walker not only consulted with me, but he reshaped, polished, and permanently cemented my temporary crown (knowing how much extra work that would be later). I felt kind of silly being so vain, but he made me feel like it was just as important to him. The staff stayed late to make sure this was done with plenty of time for my trip. It looked AMAZING. Even people who I told couldn't believe it was a temporary crown. Other awesome things about this office: -Dr. Walker is SO good at numbing. I'm terrified of needles, especially in the dental realm, and it doesn't hurt at all when he does it. -Janet at the front desk is an angel. She always finds a way to work around my awful schedule and remembers details about things we talked about at the last visit. They have me as a patient for life. If you're tired to the big, crappy revolving door dentists on island, check this place out. You will NOT regret it.

Aloha to all who take the time to read these Yelp "compliments" or "complaints" …read more.. My name is Callahan Welsh and I am a Maui Boy. To my credit, I barely graduated Maui High School(class of 2001) so I'm not that smart. So the point that I am going to make it this, if you're still reading, MY "EXPERIENCE" with Dr. Arashiro has been AWESOME!! My experience was the I needed a "crown lengthening" ...which is basically he cuts the gun around the tooth and makes it easier for a crown to go over. The worst part about this procedure with him, was that I had to leave his office.(haha)....this Dr was not only funny, but professional. He took the time to share some interesting stories with me about his practice and it made me respect what him and many other Dr's do in our society for us human beings with yuk mouths. Again, this is "MY" experience with him. I know as human beings, not every human being can be 100% all the time, but in my experience, Dr. Arashiro shows and strives to be that kind of service, to include his staff. If anyone wanted to have their mind at ease about seeing Dr. Arashrio and his practice, I would personally recommend him...but it is up to you to decide if my Yelp review was worth listening too. I certainly would send my children here if they needed some kind of gum procedure. Did I mention he is funny? Anyways, much gratitude to Dr. Arashiro's staff and to himself for taking the years and interest to fix peoples mouths when they are in pain. Aloha from the Haole from Maui, Callahan Welsh. #GoSabers!

Highly recommended!…read more Dr. Arashiro and his team delivery world class service and attention to details. The clinic is beautiful, clean and modern and perfectly located in central Maui. I have not had good experience with other dentists in Maui, however this is the place I trust and I recommend to family and friends.

I have a long history of fear and anxiety related to the dentist, so this was the last place I…read morewanted to go ! I'm not talking about a little scared...I'm talking about the...I've seen a therapist and have taken anti-anxiety meds and still didn't make it to past appointments and haven't been to the dentist in over 10 years...kind of scared !! After dealing with a toothache for over a month, I decided it was time to take the plunge. After finding out which dentists took my insurance and reading dozens of reviews, I decided to go with Hawaii Family Dental. I can now say I definitely made the right decision ! I was honest with them from the start about my experiences and my fears, and not once did I feel belittled or looked down on for my fears..it was the opposite. I was handled with care and gently. As a grown man I should be embarrassed by this irrational fear, but I am not, I fully embrace the problem I have with the dentist! They took their time, explained everything in detail and made sure I knew what to expect every step of the way. I work in the healthcare field, so I have a preconceived notion of what a positive patient experience should entail, I can say this clinic exceeded my expectations. Rusty, Rowena and Chastity in the front are professional, always smiling, and make sure I know exactly what is happening with my appointments, my insurance coverage and co-pays; their smiles and greeting set the tone for the entire office. Dr Thomas is great, during the exam and with the work I've had so far, he has been professional and patient, he checks in with me often and makes me feel like he actually cares about me while in his chair. His assistant, Emily, is just as great. She checked in just as often and got me talking about life in general, great at distracting me while she was doing what she had to do. I had to have a deep cleaning ( of course I did, ugh ), and my hygienist, Christy, was great from the moment I sat in her chair, nervous as hell !! She could tell and made me forget about what was happening in no time! Can't say Thank You enough to the crew at Hawaii Family Dental - Kihei for making it such a positive experience ! You've got a new regular patient here !

AI had gone there to see Dr. Hello for about 3 years. They took my insurance. All was good until…read moreshe did a crown and a bridge. The anchor tooth, was bad and should have not been used, and filled or pulled before hand. The whole bridge and a new front tooth crown had to be redone within 2 months. They redid it and had to use the new.,crowned tooth as the anchor tooth. Then they told me insurance would not pay for it. However, the insurance company said they did, and gave me the billing info. They said the bridge was not done correctly. Then their billing office charged me for a whole new bridge, front teeth, and would not talk to the insuran,e company, or give them their dental notes. I had to file a comp!ain't with the state and that's hard. Dr.Hello would not correct it and just said she does t do the billing. the same time she did a partial that another dentist looked at and said it was terrible partial. The insurance doesn't pay for things twice Hawaii Family Dental keeps trying g to make MT pay for the bridge at$3100. The amount kept changing, and the partial was paid for at $900. Only they can redo it. The billing office said the insurance co. doesn't pay for porcelin bridges, but they do,and it's in their coverage I was sent. Now Hawaii Family Dental will not get back to an advocate or send them their billing details. Now one of the teeth under the porcelin bridge has decayed under and through the bridge acter only 14 months. Another dentist said it was not sealed correctly and go back to them, but Dr. Mello won't guarantee her work. This is serious since I need hip surgery and I need a dental c!earance for surgery and can't get one because of the infection under the bridge. I am worried about my hea!th and life, as dental work can affect the rest of the body. Don't go to this corp. dentist. I've been on Maui for 26 years, and now I have to fight this some how. I looked at the state website and they have 7 complaints in 3 years.
