I was sent to another dentist in Kona where I spent $$ to find out what I knew that the problem is periodical disease and a root canal was not possible. Doctor Alex was very nice but I trust my feelings and intuition. He asked about cancer in my family and said he was very worried and made Me feel awful every time I left. I was ready to switch dentists just because of my intuition. I called and they said he was no longer there. I would like a solution to a dental Problem not someone who makes you feel scared or worried. No wonder the woman who wrote the review had to go thru a situation with her child. I feel for you and your child .

I debated about writing this review for a while, but decided that its only right that other people…read moreknow about how bad Waimea Smiles can be. Dr Miyasato is nice, but she pawned us off on a new dentist who is straight from the mainland, Alex Spivak. Alex Spivak saw our kids and said they all had many cavities that needed to be filled. We said okay, and sent them in for treatment. Our son went in and said his mouth was numb for an unusual amount of time. Husband went in and had the same problem. He informed Spivak, before we sent out daughter in. He saw our daughter, who went in to the office a completely healthy child, and filled her cavity. Like her brother and dad, she had numbness to her face that lasted all night. We figured it would wear off the next day. IT DID NOT. Her entire face on one side drooped, from her eye to her lip. It looked like she had a stroke! We called him to inform him of her injuries and he wanted us to bring her in. We told him we were taking her to her physician because he couldn't do anything for her and because why would we want to take her back to someone who INJURED her?! Her doctor said she had nerve damage and prescribed her a heavy steroid medication to try and relax her face. He stated that he couldn't tell if it was broken or bruised and said he would get a specialist to see Her. In the meantime, this was before Christmas and we had planned out a trip to the mainland for our kids. So we hoped and prayed that her face would return to normal for her sake. NOPE! Her face remained droopy and she lost control of the muscles that move her eyebrows. Her eyes watered like crazy and her mental health was affected. She was miserable the entire trip. She used to be our most cheerful child, friendly, talkative and happy but after the injury caused by Dr Spivak, she withdrew from everyone in the family and became very angry. We arranged for her to get counseling because of this. Remember that the injury affected half of her face, which is the first thing everyone sees! She couldn't raise her eyebrows, or move her mouth, which affected her speech, her smiles, and the way she ate and drank. In school, she would cover half of her face from her eyes to her chin, with her hand. Her food and drink would drop out of her mouth for Months because she couldn't control her lip muscles! We went to see the pediatric neurologist we were referred to and he confirmed that her facial injury definitely came directly from the dentist. As I said before, prior to her appointment she was 100% healthy and had a happy disposition. Her face was injured from December to March and we have received NO APOLOGIES from Spivak or Waimea Smiles. But we have received a letter signed by him stating that he discontinued service to us because of a "patient doctor breakdown" No class, no aloha, and no integrity. On a side note, those "many cavities" our kids had magically disappeared once we switched dentists. Interesting how that happened.

I was mis-billed by Carlie and she copped an attitude 'cause I complained about it. Monica cut me a refund check but entered the info. on the wrong Iines, so my bank would not accept. she had to re-issue it and was curt. Too bad, 'cause I really like both Dentists there- think they do great work and are very peasant and informative as were the hygienists. when I attempted to return after a year hiatus; I dropped off a fairly recent set of X-Rays from a different Dentist. Carlie said they are closed (it was 2:30) even though website says 3pm, so I had to rush - she said computers were down now so call next day to set up another exam and cleaning. I did 2 days later, but was then told that NEITHER of the 2 dentists nor the hygienist were taking new patients and I would have to be put on a waiting list. I reminded them that I had been an established patient for probably 4-5 years before that. the front desk refused to the tell me how long the list was. I wonder if the Dentists are aware of this attitude ???? It sure seems like a "get-back" to me. I was told that they would relay my message, but who knows.

I had heard horror stories from friends about implants done by other providers, but I did not experience any of that. The staff, including the office manager Carlie and dental assistant Katie, were professional and attentive. They are by far the best dental provider that I have experienced.
