The podiatrist barely even looked at me before saying "it's a sprain, you'll be fine by Monday." I angrily told him it was NOT a sprain, that I knew my body and something was wrong. That night had me back in ER for excruciating pain. Enter Dr. Friedberg the following week who, after some manipulation of my foot, and some questions concluded that I had a fascia tear that would probably take a few months to heal. Man was I glad I went to Dr. Friedberg! My foot did take a few months to heal, but he was nothing but kind, gentle, and professional through the entire process. He offered tips and tricks on how to regain strength and reduce pain, showed me my MRI images, and explained things in very simple and detailed ways. I cannot say enough good things about him, especially if you need a second opinion.

Before I even get into the review - know this, the staff is awesome!…read more Now for the nitty-gritty: Since most of the reviews for physical therapy on Yelp seem to involve back pain, I decided to try this clinic based on convenience - it's only 5 minutes away from my office. I was diagnosed with a bi-lateral knee condition 3 years ago (read: I have the knees of a cranky 80-yr-old man) and saw several different physical therapists in Vt while in college and in the year before I moved to Boston. Most of my experiences with physical therapy involved private practices with brand-new equipment and either individual rooms or privacy curtains. It took a little adjusting to this clinic, as they are short on space, and the equipment is functional, but has definitely been around the block a time, or two, or three. The tables are pretty much right on top of each other, and I almost clocked someone in the head trying to do my leg extensions two weeks ago. However, the staff handles the space with professionalism, humor, and a heavy dose of improvisation - example, hip flexor exercises with the band were executed in the back hallway. I can honestly say that I was highly skeptical at first, but my knees are the best they've been in three years, and I've even been able to start playing sports again! The staff is on the younger side, but having seen PTs of all ages, I can tell that they know their stuff. My PT is Lucas, and I highly recommend asking for him if you decide to go. Every question I've had was answered, and better yet, he adjusted the exercises & workouts to match my preferences and lifestyle. Since I will need physical therapy for the rest of my life, it's nice to finally find a clinic willing to design a routine I enjoy, rather than the normal, boring, static exercises that require you to re-arrange your entire schedule. As a result, I do them more regularly, am noticing the improvements, and will continue going here as long as I am in the Boston area.

It was my good fortune to encounter him as the on-call doctor the day after bone spur surgery last year. My own surgeon had refused to take my call. Dr. Bergman was so helpful, speaking with me in a kind, unhurried manner and addressing all my concerns with no apparent time constraint--on a Friday night no less. I felt as all patients should feel (especially post-op): respectfully heard and cared for. He addressed my pain issue and spoke to how he works with his patients who have had similar surgeries--when he recommends starting PT, etc. Months later, I chose to become one of his patients. Since then, Dr. Bergman has continued to treat me with professionalism and his trademark kindness. There is nothing phony about him. He meets me at eye level, sitting face-to-face as we discuss my progress following a second ankle surgery that he performed. He listens. Intently. He engages. Openly and honestly. He truly cares. I…read morewas then seen by Dr. Rose, who after 5 minutes of seeing me, pitched me to have surgery to remove the bone spurs in my heels. I told him that I wanted to try PT first and I did not want to have surgery. He wrote my a note to see a PT and that was it. He spent maybe 8 minutes with me tops. This doctor/practice place charged my insurance $650 for a ten minute visit. My Insurance paid $470 for the visit and then left me to foot the $180 balance. This is why our health care system is broken!

They have snacks, coffee, and the office is super clean. The staff is super friendly. I just feel like, as someone who can barely put any weight on her foot, and then pain is so bad that I can't sleep, that this is not considered urgent and therefore it gets canceled.

The pain was excruciating, and continued to get worse over time. One of my colleagues who was seriously injured in a surfing incident a year earlier, that basically destroyed his shoulder (broken bones etc) had been treated by Dr. Tim Hartshorn, and recovered completely recommended that I go see him. I did, and I IMMEDIATELY knew I was in the right place, with the right doctor. Ultimately, I required surgery to repair my shoulder, but prior to actually scheduling surgery, I needed to finish out the work season on light duty. Dr. Hartshorn gave me direct steroid injections to the shoulder joint over the course of the next few months to get me through the rest of that season. At the end of the season, I went in for surgery in the morning, and was back home that afternoon. Almost immediately, Dr. Hartshorn had me on a physical therapy routine that got me moving my newly repaired shoulder in short order. Over the course of the next several weeks, the pain subsided, my range of motion returned as I continued physical therapy, and in less than 3 months, I was back at work with no restrictions. What you need to understand is that prior to seeing Dr. Hartshorn, I could not even hold a coffee cup in my left hand without serious pain. The act of threading a belt through my pant loops required assistance from my wife. Sleeping was nearly impossible and I was a wreck due to lack of sleep. Surgery takes time to fully heal from, and I knew that going in. It also takes commitment by you, to do the exercises, and range of motion stretches prescribed by your physical therapist or doctor. If you don't do that, you will not recover completely. I knew that going in as well. Dr. Hartshorn made sure I knew that this was not going to be easy, or fun, but it (the PT and stretchers) was absolutely necessary for fast recovery and the best possible outcome. Without question or reservation of any kind, I can absolutely say that if you are reading this because you have injured your shoulder, and are at the point where a solution other than you just "roughing it out" is necessary, and you have found Dr. Tim Hartshorn, Your are one fortunate individual. It is my belief that you will NOT find a better physician, surgeon or human being than Dr. Tim Hartshorn. Congratulations, and rest easy. You are in the right place. For those wondering why, 2+ years later I might be here writing a review for Dr. Hartshorn, it is really simple. I have since injured my other shoulder, and have been in the care of a doctor who was prescribed by workers comp out here in California. I am miserable, I require surgery and I decided to reach out to Dr. Hartshorn to see if he would be willing to look at my MRI and perhaps give me a recommendation for surgeons he personally knows and would comfortably recommend out here in Cali. I've been to Coastal Orthopedic for two different reasons…read more The first was tennis elbow which they took care of and I haven't had a problem or any pain since! it's been about 2-2 1/2 years. Dr. Merlin was awesome! My second time was for my knee, torn meniscus. I had it repaired and had no problem so far (2 days will be a month since the surgery) with the surgery. It's healed great, minimal pain and bruising. Still going to PT and will be out of work for another month but no complaints about any of it!! Dr. Schyeler was amazing! I was able to get X-Rays in the same building and they helped me schedule an MRI. I was seen again right after my MRI and was told I didn't need surgery (thank goodness), and was given a clear instructions on how to take care of my injury and ensue a quick and full recovery. Dr. Salzler was professional, knowledgeable, friendly and empathic. The same can be said for both of his PAs that I worked with and his front office staff. He and the PA team answered all of my questions. I would highly recommend Tufts Medical Center Orthopedics and especially Dr. Salzler.
