It's a great place to just sit, have a pint and great meal and relax from a long train ride. It's worth not filling up by eating on the train because you know what waits for you once you arrive. The service is fantastic and the food is amazing and nothing on the menu you order is wrong. It's all great food. It's like a local pub, warm and welcoming and friendly with a casual atmosphere. What a great find! We were striking out finding a place to eat on a busy Friday night in Edinburgh, and passed by this place on our way back to the hotel. It's very large, and clearly a place for mates to gather after work. They have an electronic allergy coded menu, and wow! So many options! We started with the Wurst Bites -- three types of sausage with excellent mustard, and also a creamy herb dip. Really, really good. I had the burger with a gluten free bun, and GF fries.... What a treat! In the states, very few places take a gluten allergy seriously -- I'm simply treated as a nuisance. My husband had the classic bratwurst and a pretzel -- loved both. The bratwurst was quite large, and topped with a delicious sauce. The beer selection is vast; and they had a number of ciders, as well as cocktails and wine. It gets a little loud as it fills up, but is clean and spacious; the staff is great! read more

I would say the outside is more appealing to the eyes than what the inside was which for me was too dark and dull and not much of an atmosphere if I'm honest. We went for afternoon tea which was a lot of pickle based foods, sandwiches, scones and bite size cakes, small glasses of Prosecco and tea or coffee. I've had better afternoon tea. Don't think the kitchen knows how to do their job. Pretzel was not only cold, it was undercooked. Only make you a drink if it's on the menu.

Another cute spot that we make sure to stop by. You're greeted at the entrance with all the fun flowers created into the archway. Decors is amazing. It's a cool vibe that's pretty chill and mellow. My 3 girlfriends and I are here on vacation and we went here for dinner last night. Our waitress was inattentive but the host was lovely. We had multiple people serving us throughout the evening and our waitress never returned so we kept having to flag down random workers. Within a spam of 30 minutes to 2 hours after finishing our meals 3 out of 4 of us became extremely sick. Projectile vomiting and diarrhea. We were up all night repeatedly getting sick. It has been 18 hours since our meal and we still can't keep anything down. We believe the common denominator to be the steamed vegetables since that is the one thing our friend who did not get sick didn't consume. Unfortunately as a result of this we had to miss our tour today that we paid over $200 per ticket. I absolutely would not recommend eating here. read more

Interesting, overall positive experience at this place two nights in a row.. First night was for dinner. The cavernous interior was quiet and subdued that night and we dined able to chat in the very dog restaurant space. I enjoyed the steak cooked on a rock at my table and found it relatively affordable for what you got. Second night was for a drink and it was like a whole new establishment. Packed to the brim, live music, etc. Couldn't believe it was the same spot I was in 24 hours previously.. Friendly staff, decent food options, great interior design and clearly a popular spot in general. Mostly good things to say although I will add that the pints can be pricey (though unique!) and some of the food sounded a bit better than it tasted.. Happy to return if I'm ever in the area.. I made a reservation to go to Brewhemia for Sunday Roast while visiting Edinburgh because I thought their website and concept sounded fun. The interior design is modern, if a little sterile for my taste. The music selection playing throughout was a really fun mix of interesting covers. I found the drink book, complete with the origin story of the place, to be charming. The food exceeded my expectations - the large portions were beautifully presented and tasted great. The menu has great options for those with dietary restrictions, which was a big selling point for me. The big disappointment for me was the service. It was not friendly or attentive. I don't know if my server was overburdened or just annoyed, but her treatment made me feel like an imposition and I was eager to be able to finally leave after she noticed I was done with my meal after a few long waits. Bummer end and experience to what could have been a really lovely dinner. (They also charge a mandatory 12.5% service charge - normally I'd be happy to pay this. We stumbled on Brewhemia for an early dinner and we're very pleasantly surprised. Great menu: we had the mussels/fries and one of the sausage dishes (both delicious). We needed a gluten free meal and they surprised us with good GF bread to go with our dinners, so already worth an extra star right there. Drink choices also excellent and I would give any place that serves Czech Budwar on tap another star as well. This place is so FUN! We had dinner here on our last night in Edinburgh and it was the perfect way to end our trip. The restaurant is pretty big and has a smaller dining room in the front and a larger event space in the back with german style picnic tables and live music. The service was great and the food was better than I expected. We ordered the baked camembert which was delicious, as well as the fish and chips and the bratwurst; all very good! There was a single artist playing guitar for most of the night (really popular music that got the crowed excited and singing) and then a group of drag queens came out and danced around the bar! It also seems to be a really popular place for hen and stag parties. We'd definitely go back if we lived here! read more

Absolute rubbish. We were excited to try this pub after arriving by train. We attempted to order a few different items at the bar but they were either out of it or they "couldn't make that." Then why is it on your menu? We ordered something standard on tap and when we asked if they had food, they said they did but you couldn't order anything at the bar. You would need to sit at a table for service and you needed a reservation. The place had plenty of open tables but they wouldn't seat us! We didn't feel welcome at this point and left after one beverage. Terrible experience. Plenty of other great options nearby. Skip this one. read more

My wife and I came in after returning from a tour as this restaurant was down the street from our hotel and across the street from the Waverley Train Station. We were greeted and seated quickly towards the rear of the restaurant. They have a somewhat limited menu and a fixed price menu of 2 or 3 courses. My wife ordered a ribeye steak which came to the table on a 400 degree cooking stone, in which she had to cook to her liking. Although she thought this was a little strange, she thought the steak was delicious and raves about it when she finished. I ordered from the fixed price menu for £22 which I received a sweet potato soup as a starter, glazed pork belly with cheesy cauliflower and a chocolate dessert. I thought that the pork tasted good, however it was very fatty, but I guess that is what pork belly is all about. We did not realize they put on a cabaret type floor show starting at 8:30pm, which included a male singer dressed in drag, an acrobat and a lady who played a musical saw. Great food and great location. We had an hour to kill before we were able to check into our hotel after the train from Newcastle and saw this place right across from the street! Glad we stopped in. My friend got Winter Schnitzel and I got the Manchego Mac and WOW both were delicious and their presentation was beautiful as well. I was really excited for this dinner as I've heard great things about Brewhemia. Sadly, we did not have a great experience. The ambiance is great. The entrance with flowers is gorgeous and the interior is very nice as well. Very clean and pretty. Our service was not great. Our waitress checked in with the other tables more than she checked in with us and did not seem to want to talk to us. We ordered the schnitzel and Mac and cheese. It was fine, but nothing special. There are better restaurants I'd check out. read more

I passed by the pub on a Friday night before heading to the train station, hoping that I can get something to eat before boarding the train. The pub looked nice at first, until their security guard stopped me at the door. "Sir, you cannot go in", the security guard said coldly. I asked why, and he replied - "we only allow people who wears jeans to come in" - and he looked down on my pants. I was wearing an Adidas casual pants. While I stand awkwardly in the rain, a few women wearing casual shorts went in merrily. Many women who went in was apparently not wearing any jeans - but the male security guard was very nice to them. So I phoned the pub, and a waitress picked up. She transferred me to a manager, who told me "you cannot get in anywhere tonight if you don't get your pants changed. You are more than welcome to make a complaint. I am looking forward to replying you on social media if you decide to review us". He was, again, cold and his voice was filled with contempt. "We did not allow anybody who doesn't wear jeans to come in since day one", he said. Yet again, a few women who were not wearing jeans but shorts and stockings went in. I asked the manager on the spot - "if I cut my pants short, can I go in?" The manager replied - "No". Firmly and coldly. I have been living in the UK for five years and never once I felt disrespected and embarrassed like this. The bar is exercising double standard based on gender and (perhaps race) - yes, I am a foreigner minority. Although the manager claimed it had nothing to do with my gender or race, I doubt it somehow. We live in a world that respects diversity - people of all gender, race and region. If shops/restaurants like this exercise double standards, I cannot imagine how backward we will become. This is a shop that I will never step my foot in again. read more

Once the full hell of the back room was experienced (how do the bar staff stand having the bands play right above them & how is that allowed under Health & Safety?) it was definitely time to drink up and bolt. Fans of The Jam House will no doubt love the place. I wasn't big on it in its previous, slightly smaller, incarnation as a sports bar but at least that offered a large number of TVs rather than an over-reliance on craft beer from kegs. read more

We didn't even get a chance to eat here. Walked in and was told by the hostess to find a table that didn't have a "reserved" sign on it. We traveled all the way from Texas to visit some friends of ours. There were 7 in our party and I was the last person to walk by the hostess who then stops me and says "I'm sorry, we don't allow 'trackies' in here". I have no idea what that is so I asked her "What are trackies" and she said sweat pants. Which in America we don't call them that. I was wearing athletic joggers and tennis shoes, and so was literally everyone else in our party except my husband who was wearing jeans. My daughters were wearing athletic joggers and leggings, my son was wearing leggings with athletic shorts, my Scottish friends were wearing leggings and sweat shorts. But I'm singled out, out of every single person in the party that had already walked past her. Why was I targeted? And there is literally nothing posted that states there's a dress code. Nothing on the website. I'm pretty sure I was discriminated against. What a crappy thing to do to someone. And what a crappy establishment to have someone on their staff that does this to people. Okay so this place was a complete surprise. It's located right across from the train station, so I had pretty low expectations for it; seemed like the kind of place whose business would be driven by lots of travelers killing time inside and without regard for food quality or service. But luckily things were the exact opposite. We were immediately greeted by a hostess and seated and had our orders taken soon after that. I have to say the breadth of the menu was impressive. This place had a really diverse offering of bar bites, appetizers, pizza, and main dishes drawing from different cultures as well as your standard U.K. pub food, i.e. hand pies. We ordered a German style soft pretzel, garlic prawns, and barley risotto. Everything tasted amazing. So in short, looks are deceiving, I guess. If you're in the area and want a solid meal, don't be out off by all the people hanging around at the tables with suitcases. read more

Yup, our order is there. We waited for half an hour, when he came back to say the printer was down, so our order was not placed. After all that, I still had to pay for my tea.
