A friend of mine recommended this place to me. Actually, to be more specific, a friend of mine…read moreindicated to me that this place existed because I really don't need to be recommended a craft beer brewery namely because I will end up going their anyway. So, it took a while to get here, namely because most times I went past it was closed, but one Sunday afternoon I was fortunate enough to discover that it was open. Well, we ended up getting a tasting paddle, and I do admit that the beers were actually pretty good. It's a rather small time operation, and can be difficult to find, but it is definitely worth checking out.

Looking for somewhere casual and feels like a home away from home? Look no further Little Bang is…read morehere. Actually, I really wish this is what my home looked like. But, what I am getting at is that it feels homely... This is a brewery that has opened its doors to invite craft beer lovers in to enjoy some frothies for the weekend. First up I should point out, you are really right in the middle of the brewing action here. Set up a seat next to a fermenter and stacks of malt. You will be greeted with a smile and you might even get a handshake. Ryan & Fil are amongst the coolest brewers in town. From Video Game Designers to Brewers, they have such a great success story to tell. In fact, I think it is quite inspirational for those who are looking to get into the industry. Changing your career into something that you really love is always a challenge. But with drive and determination, you can really achieve your dreams. After having to leave the games industry due to the GFC, Ryan took on working in the beer industry and Fil in refrigeration mechanics. In their spare time, they brewed for fun. Just like you would in learning skills to reach the next level in a video game; these two had an epiphany (I am sure after some beers) about combining forces to create one mega-craft-beer-force that Little Bang is today. Unlike other breweries they had the skills to make the equipment they needed which made it a lot more affordable. So, that is exactly what they did. Well, after having to convince their wives of course. And I am sure glad they did. These brews are great and are quickly earning their stripes. As for this Venue, this is a great spot for groups. But, remember don't expect anything fancy, this is a place to chill and relax. There are tables inside and out. Their full range of beers are on offer and you can get a paddle to give them all a go for $15. Need munchies with your beer? They also make their own pickles which are really good. Or you can order some pizza from a nearby joint with free delivery. What are my fave beers on offer? I am a big fan of their Freezer Cleaner. But that is of course going to change in flavour over time. I do also like their Chocolate Porter which is lighter than expected and easy to drink. Give their Happy Land Summer Ale a go if you like something lighter. It's got a lot more flavour profile than others I have tried. Quite floral and almost a little sweet. I am very excited that the boys have opened their brewery for weekend drinks. This might become my local. Well done guys!

South Australian Brewing Company produce West End beer and have done so for as long as I can…read moreremember. They have a large brewery on Port Road with that rich bitter smell of hops emanating from it from time to time indicating that all is well in the world of beer production. You can get a group together and go for a walking tour around the brewery if you so wish. It is quite an interesting process and even though I've done it a few times in my life each time I do enjoy myself and I always am a little enamoured with them for their community spirit. They keep a rather twee, but good for the kids, fantasy land beside the brewery in a park area that comes to life at Christmas, and looks a little odd for the rest of the year. They also maintain a charity spot on Port Road where you can fill your water bottle - all the money goes to charity, and you get great quality local water. The walking tours are designed for groups of a minimum of 10 people on a pre-booking basis; you get to see (and smell) the raw materials used for brewing, the fermentation cellars, the brew house, keg handling and the amazing canning and bottling process. If you are not a group of ten people you can give them a call and see about tagging along with another group. One thing that you need to remember with kegs rolling about - the walking tour requires that you wear closed flat shoes, no thongs, no sandals, because of occupational Health and Safety.

The Coopers Brewery tour is helping put the Rad in Radelaide…read more The tour was rather scientific, going beyond the standard "beer is made from water, malt, yeast, and hops." I suspect this was partially tailored to our group because our small tour was comprised of beer nerds & beer lovers. But either way, this is a tour through the actually factory, not added tourist set-ups, like Guinness or Heineken tours. Which also means you get to wear bright orange vests - bonus! Our guide was great and extremely knowledgable, with an interest in home-brewing. The money from the tour is donated to charity, and the tour includes tastings of the Coopers range and a souvenir glass to take home at the end. So for both locals and visitors - pat yourself on the back for supporting charity while drinking some fermented Australian history. Tips: You must wear closed-toed shoes on the factory tour. Designate a sober driver or take public transport so you can enjoy all the beer tastings!

Coopers Brewery tour, not just for tourists…read more.. Highly recommend the tour for anyone who enjoys the odd brew or two. The only issue is finding the time if you're not on vay-k, as there's only one tour a day, Tuesday to Friday at 1pm. No chance of "taking a long lunch..." Buzz the intercom at the main gates of the factory for access and you half expect to be asked for your golden ticket. It really is a "wonderland" of ingenious inventions, a 3 hole golf course, concert venue... I won't give too much away, but just that the tour is highly technical. As you walk around the factory some of the processes give off lots of heat. Some areas are noisy. It's a little overwhelming. People get shy. But then you hit the "tastings" part of the tour and everyone relaxes and livens up. So I guess sort of like going to any bar... Unless you've played some sort of true blue SA drinking game, this is a one off opportunity to sample and compare the entire Coopers range. What you discover may surprise! Frank, your guide, makes the tour... ask about the Sparkling canary. The deets: -$22 for the tour ($20 of that goes to charity). -Book ahead -Wear closed toe shoes... and that's it!
