When I asked if I could have a jury trial, the judge said "I won't be your judge at trial, but I think it possible another judge would increase your alimony by $300 weekly and keep all other terms." Linda said nothing, except to tell me to take the offer. So, I spent $32,000, lost everything obtained during my marriage, and got to see my kids every other weekend. I felt like I was railroaded and Linda was driving the locomotive: she ran up my legal tab and accomplished nothing. I think I could have gotten a better deal on my own.

Basic procedural matters were handled poorly, including court documents being filed under the wrong document category on NYSCEF and Ms. Dahlen demonstrating unfamiliarity with standard Family Court confidentiality rules by asking me to retrieve protected court records myself. Following the breakdown of the relationship, the firm failed to turn over billed work products (despite being paid in full) while improperly conditioning the production of case records on additional payment. Eventually, the matter proceeded to an official hearing before the court's Part 137 Fee Dispute Arbitration Program. The arbitrator reviewed the billing records, ruled in my favor, and ordered a $1,482.00 refund. Following the decision, my formal written requests for payment were met with accusations of harassment rather than professional resolution, and the awarded funds were remitted only at the very end of the statutory window. While her office staff (Stephanie and Tatiana) were polite, Ms. Dahlen herself was rude, dismissive, and unapproachable. At every stage of the matter, from questioning unearned fees to demanding compliance with the arbitrator's ruling, Ms. Dahlen deflected legitimate queries by mischaracterizing routine client communications as 'harassment' and threatened legal action to avoid accountability for her billing entries and eventual arbitration defeat. Over approximately one year, I spent nearly $4,000 in legal fees and experienced ongoing communication issues, unanswered calls, and repeated court postponements. One particularly frustrating incident occurred in March 2026 when I took time off work and traveled to the courthouse in Jamaica, Queens, only to learn that my scheduled appearance was not proceeding as expected due to what Angel described as a court scheduling error. Despite this, I was asked to Zelle him $750 for his appearance What concerned me even more was a telephone conversation during which Angel told me he sometimes had to "play devil's advocate" regarding my ex-husband because he could relate to being in his shoes. He explained that he also had a girlfriend who did not get along with his ex-wife and that this affected his relationship with his own son because he did not want to upset his girlfriend. He also expressed that he wished he could speak to my ex-husband "man-to-man." As a mother seeking representation regarding concerns about my daughter's well-being, I found this comparison deeply inappropriate and began questioning whether my concerns were being evaluated objectively. My greatest disappointment came in July 2026 when my custody modification petition was dismissed without proceeding to trial. I had spent months gathering documentation concerning my daughter's well-being, which I had hoped to present. The opposing attorney had filed a motion to dismiss, and I had specifically questioned Angel about whether we needed to respond. After receiving the court's decision, I was concerned to see that the absence of opposition to the motion was discussed. When I questioned this, Angel maintained that the evidence was insufficient. During our final conversation in July, Angel said he would look into the cost of an appeal. As of October 8, I have received no follow-up. I understand that attorneys cannot guarantee outcomes. My dissatisfaction is not simply that I lost my case, but how the case was handled, the lack of communication, and the financial and emotional toll of the experience. As a single mother who trusted this firm based on previous representation, I am extremely disappointed. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this firm for custody matters.
