We had already been through multiple "top-tier" American programs. We even interviewed an Ivy League-affiliated rehab in Massachusetts that quoted us $250,000 for three months. On paper, it looked impressive, but in our gut, we knew it represented more of the same: a familiar merry-go-round where illegal drugs are simply swapped for pharmaceutical drugs, symptoms are managed, and families are left hoping this time will somehow be different. We needed a real change, not just a new logo. After staying at Holistic Sanctuary for a week myself, I was convinced we had finally found that change. The administration was remarkably open, allowing me to stay that first week alongside my daughter so she would feel safe beginning a three-month treatment in a foreign country. They were completely transparent: I was given a room, informed clearly of the expectations, and required to comply with the full daily routine just like any other participant. That openness alone spoke volumes about their confidence in the program and their respect for families. The center is located in the penthouse of a beachfront building in Baja California. The accommodations are top-notch, private, and thoughtfully designed. The diet is entirely organic, with everything prepared fresh each day. Nothing about it feels improvised or cosmetic; every detail has been carefully and methodically considered. My daughter had spent years in the grip of benzodiazepine use, developing relentless insomnia and tremors that dominated her daily life. At Holistic Sanctuary, the team systematically addressed the underlying physical and neurological damage causing her suffering. The care is truly one-on-one. Every morning, we received a detailed report on how our daughter had slept and how she was progressing. The results were nothing short of extraordinary. Within approximately six weeks, her tremors were completely gone. By her 6th week, she was sleeping deeply without any sleep medication at all--something she had not been able to do naturally for over twenty years. On the medical side, what impressed me most was the integration of conventional diagnostics with a truly holistic approach. From day one, they ran comprehensive labs and checked nutrient levels, looking closely at what the body was missing instead of reflexively adding new pharmaceuticals. This is a real healing center, not a facility that simply replaces one chemical with another. The program combines science, nutrition, targeted supplementation, IV support, and structured daily movement to rebuild the nervous system in a disciplined, restorative way. The ibogaine component is handled with that same absolute professionalism. Before anyone is cleared for ibogaine, they undergo stress testing, EKGs, and close cardiovascular monitoring, along with daily cardio to condition the heart. Liver function, cardiac status, nutritional status, and mental readiness are all rigorously evaluated. Ibogaine is treated as a serious medical intervention that requires respect and preparation, not as a shortcut. I cannot recommend Holistic Sanctuary highly enough. It is a shame that in the United States we found nothing that truly compares to the depth and quality of this program--and the cost was a fraction of what we were quoted for American programs that were subpar by comparison. As a parent who has seen both sides, I believe Healing Sanctuary offers something incredibly rare: a careful, comprehensive, and genuinely effective path toward true recovery and life after addiction. They achieved a miracle for our family.

My mother suffered a devastating stroke that left her unable to walk, unable to move her arms, and barely able to speak--at one point, the only word she could say was "ok." As a family, we were scared, overwhelmed, and unsure of what her future would look like. What this facility did for her... truly changed everything. Today, she is now speaking over 100 words. That transformation alone speaks volumes about the dedication and skill of the speech therapy team. They didn't just do their job--they gave my mother her voice back. The physical therapy department worked with her consistently, day in and day out. Even though she's still on her journey toward walking and regaining full use of her hands, the progress she's made has given her something priceless: belief. She now knows recovery is possible, and that mindset shift is everything. Let's be real--no place is perfect. But what sets this facility apart is the effort, the consistency, and the care. In a place where patients are going through some of the hardest moments of their lives, the staff still shows up with compassion and professionalism. From the valet to the front desk, from housekeeping to dietary staff, management, and especially the nurses and students putting in real, hands-on work--you can feel that people here care. And that matters more than anything. This is not just a facility--it's a place where real healing happens. To everyone there: thank you for giving my mother progress, hope, and dignity. Please keep doing what you're doing--you are truly changing lives.

You say you'll stay for 30, they say you need to stay for 60. While the longer you remain in a CREDIBLE patient-based (usually under the care of a hospital with doctor overseeing the program) the greater chance of staying sober, BUT if you stay 60, they push for 90. God forbid you announce after 17 days that you will be leaving in 30, the staff becomes very passive aggressive and vascillates between trying to threaten clients with relapse and ignoring them altogether. The staff has ZERO accreditations other than being in recovery themselves. HIPPA and privacy is completely ignored, and have no medical background whatsoever. They do not treat the clients with any compassion or respect, unless you/your family has money. There were three people out of 65 who were solely there for alcohol (no cross-addiction). They were handed The Big Book and that was it. Those with eating disorders, methamphetamine, or pill addictions had separate groups for counseling daily. Those three never had any sessions where they were able to discuss their addiction or were given any help. The entire group went to AA speaker meetings 7 days a week, but never got delve into their own issues. Kathleen made a point to dress down the entire group over unhappy staff and actually said, "We DO NOT CARE how you got here. We don't care about your past. Stop whining and listen to your counselors, they have heard every lie and excuse coming out of you and know you better than you know yourself!" Sobriety 101, addiction is a symptom of the problem that brought them to rehab. There was absolutely no communication with family members, which is essential as it is a family disease. One person who completed their treatment after 90 days, was back the very next day as they relapsed that night. They had something called Family Week, that only those who had been at the facility for at least 90 days MIGHT be able to attend, but it was months away. Family members were encouraged to take an entire week off of work and pay for a week's stay at a hotel where they held it. Some of these people's loved ones spent every last dime to keep them there and could not take off work for a day, let alone an entire week. Kathleen's "special talent" is to single out a client and proceed to rip them apart in front of their peers (and was said to do this at Family Week repeatedly over the course of the week). Nothing she said was in the vein of healing. It was 45 minutes of verbal abuse that left people completely traumatized. MacKenzie Phillips wasn't an active member of the program, she just wandered the halls, if she was there at all. Breathe has a lot of glossy pictures and empty promises (equine therapy...there was none, a swimming pool...clients were not allowed to use it, trips to the beach...nope, too much liability). The founder bought up all but two houses on a street in Laurel Canyon (you do the math) and it looks great on their website, but that's it. It is NOT a safe place to heal. ***Bottom line, if you or someone needs help with addiction, please find a PATIENT-BASED rehab facility, that encourages family participation through visitation and group therapy. The counselors should hold degrees in psychology, drug and addiction counseling, etc and have done clinical hours during their studies. Places that show you pictures of what looks like a 5-star resort with promises of gourmet food, a spa-like atmosphere, and an easy process do not have their client's best interest at heart. As with any facility, you need to do your due diligence, ask questions, and review their qualifications. If I can educate just one person on what to look for and what to avoid, so that they can help a loved one or themselves acheive sobriety in a safe and healthy environment, then I will consider writing this incredibly worthwhile.

On the morning she died, around seven a.m., I had a vivid dream where my mother warmly embraced me. Feeling something was wrong, I immediately called the hospital to ask about her condition. They told me only that she wasn't doing well, giving no details. It wasn't until around two-thirty that afternoon that the hospital called me back, saying she was close to death and urging me to come quickly. When I arrived, I was devastated to find my mother had already passed away hours earlier. Her body was cold and discolored -- she had clearly died that morning, the same time I had the dream -- but the hospital lied about the timing. The staff's cold and indifferent behavior added to my grief. I was forced to wear full protective gear just to see her, and a nurse coldly asked, "When will you remove the body? We can't keep it here long," showing a shocking lack of respect. Later, after I shared my experience publicly, the hospital director apologized, but then personally threatened me, saying that if I ever posted a similar review again, their Regal team would come after me. Alcott Rehabilitation Hospital failed in both care and compassion. Their negligence and callousness caused our family unnecessary pain. If you truly love your parents or loved ones, never entrust them to such a hospital -- a place that treats people like this is no place for a human being. I share this story to warn others and demand accountability. Families deserve honesty, empathy, and respect -- all of which were sadly missing here. ************************************ Update (in response to the facility's public reply): After I posted this review, the facility left the message asking me to contact them privately. Let me be clear -- I have no desire to speak with you privately. Everything I experienced is written right here. If you truly cared about accountability and compassion, you would've acted when it mattered -- when my mother was alive, when she was dying alone, and when I needed answers. And if your plan is to do what you did last time -- pretend to apologize just to lure me into the facility, sit me down alone in a quiet room, and then threaten me with "your legal team coming after me" if I ever speak up again -- don't bother. That experience was terrifying and deeply disturbing, and I haven't forgotten it. I will not have any private discussions with you now or in the future. I'm simply telling the truth about what happened, and I won't be silenced by fear or intimidation.

Every staff member has a very thorough education in addiction and recovery. I'm talking book knowledge as well as years of (sometimes harrowing, often inspiring) experiences. They have an authentic passion for recovery. And they know what this kind of transformation should look like. The clinical staff at NuView possesses a diverse range of skills. These skill sets include pragmatic things like self-development training, which can help clients get jobs, write resumes, or even just manage their own money better. But they also teach important qualities like emotional intelligence, conflict management, and how to handle not wanting to get out of bed in the morning. These are important skills to learn after someone has stopped using drugs and alcohol. Why? Life gets hard when you can't rely on alcohol or drugs to make it SEEM good. So you need to do the hard work of MAKING your life better. At NuView's outpatient programs, they support and guide you through that process. Much of that involves group therapy and other kinds of counseling, including family therapy and one on one meetings. They locate your weak points and help you create a plan for dealing with them, always making sure you take it one step at a time. They also share their own knowledge with you. They know what addiction is from a medical perspective. And there's no reason why someone with an addiction shouldn't know that as well. Sometimes people don't know why they feel such a strong compulsion to drink or do drugs. The staff at NuView help clients realize that it's not some moral failure - it's a legitimate mental health condition with neurological, emotional, and interpersonal causes. And it can be treated. NuView is especially good at helping people who have a history of relapse or who have struggled with getting sober even after attending other rehabs. This is because they put more personal care into their treatment approaches than most other rehabs. Their treatment plans are generally customized for each individual client. This makes sense, since addiction is a pretty wide category, and it is not the same for everyone. Their outpatient programs provide a holistic approach to addiction. Clients have access to a safe and supportive community. They also get a social network of other people in recovery, so they can all grow together. You won't feel alone even for one minute throughout this process. For family members, they also put on many events and try to include them in the treatment process. Literally everyone gets a chance to heal and to work on themselves. If you're dealing with addiction now or if you just quit, it's time to treat yourself to a clean and sober life that's actually good. Why get sober and be miserable? At NuView, no matter how broken down you are, you WILL experience a transformation. Simple as that.
