I had never heard of Brett & Becky's before and was not sure if I should order. The price was significantly better for the same size bulbs than the company I normally order from, so I thought it was worth a shot. The bulbs arrived in a timely manner, were very nicely packed, and all looked large, fresh, & robust right out of the package. I had ordered Casa Blanca Lilies (which I already grow in my garden so I knew how large and beautiful those flowers should be) and I also ordered Kent Lilies and was not sure what to expect. The Casa Blanca bulbs had 3" shoots right out of the box, so these looked very promising. In no time both sets of lilies emerged. The Kent Lilies had extremely thick stalks (so thick that it was startling) and multiple flower nodes on each stem, as did the Casa Blanca Lilies. Both of these Lilly varieties are white, but the Casa Blanca Lilies are a soft shade of white, while the Kent Lilies are literally the whitest flower I have ever seen. They are shockingly white and absolutely stunning in my garden. I am so pleased with my Brett & Becky's purchase. Every single bulb came up and each plant is very healthy and truly beautiful. This place is such a neat, unexpected, awesome find! We saw this little sign with an arrow between Hartfield and Gloucester... wondered what it was for months and months. One day, we were in no hurry to get anywhere, found ourselves at the sign, and decided to turn, as suggested. Not even sure where we were going, we ended up at this mundane looking building with "not much else" around. "Not much else" ended up being such a lovely stroll through some gorgeous gardens, a lovely gift shop with hundreds upon hundreds of bulbs for sale (among other unique and interesting 'gift' ideas...), and a staff that was super friendly, and willing to answer any questions you may have.... We were definitely happy to find this place. Apparently, they need no further advertising, as they were pretty busy. (They've been here for quite a long time, unbeknownst to us!) To think that it exists in this little section of God's country, wow! Even though they were fairly busy, we felt as if we were alone in our walk... Paths, places to have a picnic, music and performance venues, and just a lovely place to meditate, if that is your desire. Can't wait to go back here....with friends, with a loved one, or even alone for a nice stroll! What a find, my own little garden to enjoy a good book... taking in the lovely, lovely little alcoves and paths and benches... Well done, B&B, well done! read more

While traveling through Gloucester Va on a recent trip we saw the signs for Brent and Beckys Bulbs. As huge flower fans and recipients to their mail order catalog we decided we had to check their place out. On our visit a sale happened to be going on which had many bulbs on sale for up to 75% off. They also had a large sale on plants. The gift shop and store itself is a gardeners wonderland with all types of bulbs, plants and garden supplies. The real magic took place when we walked out the side door and into the gardens. Wow! what an amazing garden space. Acres of different types of gardens open to the public to walk through for as much time as they would like. This is a great place to gather ideas of the type of gardens you would like to plant. In the clear back corner of the gardens there was Becky herself weeding a bed of flowers. It was really cool getting to meet and talk with her and to see her doing what she loves and made a great bushiness out of. Overall Brent and Beckys Bulbs should not be missed when traveling through this section of Virginia. Its a great place to detour during a road trip or a great destination for any flower lover. read more

I ordered bulbs in late September, and received them over a week into November. In zone 6b, all low temperatures this week are below freezing. Fall-planted bulbs are supposed to be planted such that they establish roots & grow a bit before dormancy. Late October would have been vastly preferable (and is recommended for zone 6), as they would have been able to establish themselves. I will say the bulbs are in good condition, and our soil hasn't completely frozen to the depth of several inches, so at least it's physically possible to place them in the soil. read more

Came to this location when the Gloucester Wine Festival was going on. It was a pretty fun event and the area is very large. It appears to be kid friendly and I wouldn't mind exploring this place once my LO is older. This is located close to my in-laws and have heard many great things about this place. Overall, the place is pretty big and the festival taken place was very well organized. Can't wait to explore this place when there's no event taken place. read more

Ordered 300 daffodil bulbs as a gift. They bloomed ok first year, but there were few blooms the second year. They were in sun and well drained soil. Very disappointed. Not the quality we paid for and response from company was disappointing. read more

This place is amazing. For anyone who loves plants and nature, come here with at least 45 minutes to spare for roaming the extensive gardens and grounds. Brent is usually wandering around the gardens when we stop by and loves to chat with everyone who comes through. They are such a wonderful resource for bulb planting and local growing information. They do workshops and lectures, live music & wine and cheese in the garden, botanical painting, beekeeping demonstrations...and tons of other important gardening world stuff. Their daffodil selection is out of control - if you can visit in the springtime you should. Definitely a local gem. They also have an extensive online catalog for anyone out of state looking to order premium bulbs and perennials. I have been ordering from them for almost 10 years now, and have always received fresh healthy bulbs that performed beautifully. Also, do your research, people. Many customers here complain about bulbs not performing well, or slow growing perennials. Many large bulbs split after the first year being planted and will take several years to bloom again. That is a fact of nature. Especially true of Tulips and Alliums. During this time, they are reproducing underground so you can have more flower bulbs after a few years, which in my opinion is well worth the wait and make them extremely cost effective over time compared to other plants. All plants take time to grow, and some at different rates. As a PROFESSIONAL LANDSCAPER who owns their own business, I have real trouble sympathizing with folks who don't seem to understand that plants are living things and operate on their own timeline. Spending what you think is too much on a plant does not mean it will grow any faster. For the record, $33.33 for 4 plants is a steal compared to the $15-$25 single perennials I frequently purchase from numerous wholesale nurseries for clients. Shipping plants is very difficult for any grower, and I have never once received a shipped plant that wasn't bare root/cut back, because it simply wouldn't be a healthy way to ship it in the first place. Plants lose excessive moisture from trying to keep their leaves and especially flowers hydrated once being dug, which is why they will and should always be cut back before shipping. For people with no patience for growing things, don't order plants online. Or find your local big box store and buy some heavily blooming perennials which have been pumped full of fertilizer, and let me know how they're all performing in a year or two. For people who want quality beauty for years to come, support these rare small family owned businesses before they're all gone! read more

(very Seusian) Now I've got what I affectionately call "The Kraken" and "The Giant Leek" (imagine a chive, but like.... 3 feet tall and topped with a softball) having forgotten both their proper and common names. i ordered four milkweed plants, on their website, of 2 different varieties. this is what i got. for $33.33. i contacted them and brent told me, well that's that what you get. that is how we ship them. not anything like what they showed on their website. not anything like what i was expecting. be careful what you order from this place, you may not get what you were expecting for the price you pay. i will not order anything on line from them again. i wanted to see milkweeds in bloom in my back yard by fall but i think these will take a couple of years, to get to any substantial size. very disappointed with my purchase!!! read more

We visited the shop in mid-December and were delighted to meet Mr. Brent himself, as well as members of his knowledgable staff, Danielle and Steve. Becky's garden is worth touring in winter, as there are many wonderful ideas for bringing color and interest to the garden in this season. I ordered a plant early in spring. Received an Email on shipping week and it was indeed given to post office on time. Don't know what happened from there but despite the live plant/perishable label and 2nd day priority mail it showed up a full week later at a post office 45 minute drive from me. English part of label was 100% correct (who knows how it scanned). I called the postmaster in town where it ended up to have them save it instead of sending it back for proper delivery. Evidently it had spent some time in warm place and was really dry when I opened the box. It never showed any life after planted. Clearly not an issue with Brent and Beckys but perhaps the post office where mailed from. read more

I bought their promises for the second time, 2 years ago they were rare bulbs of Ammarilis, this year they offered chic expensive terry peonies at a low price in the spring for delivery autum. Of course it was another fundraiser. They sent a letter that all 6 types of peonies They didn't ripen and they can't sell them. They offered to choose something from their meager assortment of bulbs. Why? They don't have to go to the bank. They got the money and in the fall, having collected the crop, they will return the money. Interest-free loan! Very clever! Rogues! read more

Visited in April and was very unhappy with customer service. We were never greeted or asked if we needed help even when we were the only people in there. My husband selected a package of bulbs and asked if the bulbs needed to be separated and the woman at the register accused my husband of doing that very thing. My husband was taken back by the fact she accused him of doing that. I also had told the woman that I had requested a catalog five weeks earlier and never received it. I asked if she could check her computing to see if we were in the system and she wouldn't do it but said to wait. We drive by every week and will not stop again. read more
