Talk about a winter wonderland! A gorgeous, traditional log cabin up a snowy mountain. Many rooms,…read moreall slightly different. Some dorm-type, some family. Some doubles etc. We had a double with our own toilet, shower & balcony. It was picturesque. Red gingham curtains, cow paintings etc. You have to take a snow machine to get up to this place & if you miss the occasional times that it goes back down to the town you have to toboggan - awesome! The breakfast & evening meal were included in our nightly rate & the price was ridiculously good! The ribs were outstanding. There's an outdoor hot tub which thr owners will gladly fire up for you in the snow. Staying here felt like a fairy tale. I can't wait to go back!

Talk about an authentic Austrian experience! I stay in Saalbach every winter with my boyfriend's…read morefamily where they have a cabin. They were so excited to take me to Spielberghaus because the journey to and from the restaurant is so much a part of their favorite family traditions. First of all, no cars are allowed to drive up the snowy path that leads to the cabin. You have the option of taking a large snowmobile or a "pistenraupe" all the way to the cabin for a few euro. We decided to walk up the path because it was such a beautiful night. The 45 minute walk was definitely a challenge as it is all uphill, but you cannot beat the views and scenery of this special place, it's truly magical. At the top of the hill, you feel like you're discovering a special hideaway with the warm lights glowing onto the white snowy banks outside. Indoors is perfectly decorated as you would imagine an Austrian hut in the Alps to be, complete with floor to ceiling wood beams, and local music playing in the background. Our meal of goulash, schnitzel, apfenstrudel, and beers was definitely well deserved after our walk. Service was top notch and so hospitible, it felt like we were in someone's home. My favorite part of the experience was the way home. Sleds are available to rent for you to take down the path you just climbed up! Believe me, there is nothing like a sled ride that lasts 15 minutes down the most picturesque snowy setting you can imagine. Truly a memory that I will not forget that I cannot wait to repeat already. Go and enjoy yourself!

Ladies and Gentlemen - they really do exist!! The small, excellent hotels - outside of the big…read morechains! And a perfect example is the "Hotel Sonnenhof" in Going am Wilden Kaiser. It is a family-run exquisit hotel with 40 rooms, a big indoor pool and an excellently designed thermal and wellness area. Bio-Sauna, Tyrol-Sauna, Sole-Steambath, Infrared-Cabin - you name it, you find it in the "Sonnenhof". The "Sonnenhof" is at the foot of the "Wilder Kaiser", one of the most impressive mountain-chains in the Alps. Here in Going you are right in the center of the largest ski-area in Austria. Kitzbühl, the famous village with the even more famous downhill-course "Streif" is just around the corner ---- and, thankfully, the price-level of Kitzbühl is also "around the corner"! One more thing absolutely needs to be mentioned: the food in the "Sonnenhof" is simply sensational. It starts with a very nice breakfast buffet, followed by a snack for lunch, a typical tyrolian "Marende Jause" in the afternoon and a brilloiant 5 course meal for dinner. And all this is included in the "Halfboard Plan".......... In closing I would like to mention that staying in the "Sonnenhof" is just PERFECT!!!! If you are looking for cosy atmosphere, excellent food and personal service - the "Sonnenhof" must not be missed!

The rooms are really well fitted out and my children loved the bed a circular double bed with a bed above it (like bunk beds), very exciting. The food was good with 4 course evening meals and free after ski snack. The hotel owner goes out of his way to provide evening entertainment as the hotel is a little way out of town. He ran a free bowling night with prizes. A winter candlelit walk through the village with Schnapps, and a trip to the ski instructors show in nearby Ellmau. I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again my self!
