This is a very nice swim facility in the City of Commerce! Located within a park in a quiet neighborhood, across the street from an elementary school, Brenda Villa Aquatic Center features a 10-lane Olympic size swimming pool, with two other warm up pools of a couple lanes each. Restrooms and showers are expansive. The aquatic center seems to be a part of a larger complex, featuring waiting area, workout room, and other athletic facilities. If you're a resident, then this place rocks because you get it all for free or for pretty close to free. I only visit the Fitness Center (aka mini-gym) but most people go for the pool. I see all the Water Polo peeps training, the old fogies just chillin', and the babies learning how to swim. It seriously seems like a pretty cool environment. Maybe if I ever have kids I'll bring them here to learn how to swim. I've been inside the locker rooms which are regularly maintained. They are SUPER clean and they have showers, bathrooms and, of course, lockers. Unfortunately the showers kinda lack privacy so I will never shower there. I posted a pic with the current Aquatorium fees. Funny story: I was at the Fitness Center, annoyed that all these high school girls were taking up all the treadmills. I was giving dirty looks and sighing. Well a week later I received the Commerce Newspaper and there on the front page were all those treadmill girls. And I was wrong. They weren't high schoolers. They were the friggin Mexican National Water Polo team and they were at the Aquatorium to train for the Olympics. Oops! read more

Note: The Commerce Aquatorium has been renamed the "Brenda Villa Aquatic Center". I will be posting this review under both the Aquatorium and the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center. Before today, if you were to ask me what the city of Commerce was famous for, I'm not quite sure that I would've been able to tell you. Perhaps the Commerce Casino, or the Citadel shopping outlet may have crossed my mind. But, as for people, I haven't a clue as to anyone famous from Commerce. Perhaps Robert Rizzo? Nope he was from Bell. I then found out that the pool was named after Brend Villa, the Olympian and gold medal winner in Women's water polo. She grew up in Commerce and was swimming there since she was six. Because of her, the city of Commerce renamed the Aquatorium to the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center in August of 2012. The aquatic center has 2 pools, a shallow pool for non swimmers, and a larger 25 yard, by 35 meter pool. Someone mentioned that they should set up the lane lines so that they could swim the long way. 35 meters is nonstandard for a lap pool. It is not going to happen. The pool is set up for 25 yard with 12 lanes. The pool ranges from 7 feet deep to 13 feet deep. They have all the tools of punishment that you need. They have kick boards, pull buoys, paddles, and zoomer fins. They have a huge clock digital clock so that you can time yourself. In addition, they also have saunas and a fitness room. Music is played over the speakers of the aquatic center. As I swam, I thought I heard music in the pool. I then saw underwater speakers. I asked the lifeguard if I was hallucinating. She told me that I was not hearing things, and that the speakers were on. None of the other pools that I have been to have underwater music. The men's locker room was nice compared to all the other pools that I have been to. All the lockers seemed to be in good condition. Each shower has its own stall. The men's locker room was clean, and well taken care of. Sorry, for obvious reasons, I don't know about the women's locker room. The pool is open for lap swimming Monday through Friday between 6-8 AM, and again from 11:30 AM to 1 PM. They also have recreational swimming Monday through Friday from 3:00 PM to 4:15 PM; and on Saturdays from 1 PM to 4 PM. The hours are not very good for lap swimming, unless I happen to be in the area around lunchtime. There is a price to pay if you swim here. It is free for Commerce residents, provided that they obtain a resident card. Non-resisdents are charged $3.50. Non-resident seniors are charged $1.00. There are no good swimmers during the 11:30 AM to 1 PM session. Most of the people were going at a 3 or 4 minutes pace for a 100 yard swim. I'm embarassed to say that their lack of swimming skills made my 1:30 look blazing fast. Perhaps the better swimmers come in the morning. Most of the floaters/walkers walk in the shallow pool, except for the floater who decided that she wanted my lane. I had the pleasure of swimming with Pocahontas' mom, White Cloud. Okay, I am seriously exaggerating about Pocahontas. But, an older woman named White Cloud (her real name) decided to float in my lane. Of all the free lanes, she picked mine. She was checking me out. She liked me and commented on my physique, and liked my "hard muscles". How embarassing! I wonder what else she was looking at. After telling me all that, I probably should have moved to another lane, but, I was too preoccupied trying to finish 3500 yards. This is one of the best pools that I have been to. It is probably right up there with the William Woollett Pool in Irvine. Facility wise, the lockers rooms, sauna and fitness room makes this pool better than Woollett. However, hard core swimmers are at Woollett. I get a better workout at Woollett. Over here, you get a bunch of grandpa's, grandma's and my new friend, White Cloud and the big clock. The clock is the only thing that you can try to beat. read more

Attended a swim meet with our team here last weekend and was impressed with the facility. Our home pool which is also indoors is terribly humid and hot most of the time. Not so with the Aquatorium. They seem to have a very good ventilation system which kept the building comfortable even though there were throngs of people inside, and outside it was about 95 degrees. There was also a nice grass area right next to the building for all teams to set up their easy-up villages. They even put a speaker outside right by the team areas so we could hear the event info. The building itself is pretty new, of modern design, and in very good condition. I was hesitant to attend a meet in Commerce, but went away impressed and will come back again. read more

Awesome place. My kids have played water polo tournaments here. Amazing setup. You can't find a place like this in the OC. The only thing I will say is that it feels damp inside and the smell of chlorine is evident. read more

Attended my daughters swim meet there last weekend. It's a wonderful venue. Indoor pool, nice outdoor park area. Not sure what else this place is used for, but it's good for a swim meet. read more

Honestly this pool is the best pool I've been to. But the reason I'm giving it 4stars is because the staff & life guards were unbelievably rude. But in the plus side it was clean and the lockers were surprisingly well kept. I live in Maywood and this pool is close and has a great price. read more

Wonderful place to go with family. It's a very clean and safe environment. The toddler pool is awesome! My kids love this place!

More like 4 stars if you're a resident. The Bads: 1) The chlorine in the main lap/dive pool is kind of strong. The strongest of any Olympic sized pool I've been in. Still better than your average 24-hour fitness gym but it was strong enough to cause me eye irritation and very dry skin. Had to moisturize right away when I got home. I very much prefer salt water pools like the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center. This is my biggest ding against this aquatic center. 2) The men's locker room was so-so. The showers were nice and partitioned, but there wasn't any clothes-drying machine that I could find. 3) The zumba classes and other programs are for residents only. I brought my mother hoping to see if we could find her some new activities to do now that she's retired. We are not residents. 4) Lap swim times are only 1.5 hours weekdays. The Goods: 1) The price is great. $3.50 for non-residents and $1 for non-resident seniors and disabled people. 2) The facilities are pretty modern and well kept. I especially like that there's a good amount of light for an indoor pool. 3) Workers seemed pretty helpful. 4) Not crowded. There were maybe dozen swimmers when I came on a Friday afternoon. There are two pools. The main lap/diving pool which goes from about 8 feet deep to 20 feet deep and the shallow therapy pool which goes from 3.5 to 4.5 feet deep. Great for aqua jogging if you are injured. It is very heated, almost jacuzzi hot. I would guess mid to high 80s. When I came today they had the main lap pool set up in the 25 meter length orientation. Not sure if they ever set it up as a 50m orientation as the main lap pool is also the diving pool, so if they did do 50m length, one end would be significantly deeper than the other which would be weird. I still prefer 50m length and sharing with others in a circle swim than 25meter and having your own lane. The main lap pool was a little cold. I would guess mid 60s. If you are a resident of the City of Commerce this is quite a community resource you have here and would highly encourage you take advantage of it. If not, the lap swim prices are pretty good. If they lowered the chlorine level I would come here often. read more

I remember when it was just Rosewood park pool and if you were a resident it only cost a dime none residents paid $1.00 and every thing else was free residents cards were a $1.00 for the year even camp commerce was free way back then. The city has been thru a lot of changes. read more

They never answer the phone when you call for info about the facility. Last week I called because me and my husband wanted to take our son for a swim and the automated voice box said they were open to the public from 1 to 4 pm. Well we showed up and they had an event that prevented us from being able to swim. But we would have saved our time and gas if they would have picked up the phone and let us know they weren't open to the public that day. I mean the pool is great and the gym is awesome but the staff can be a little too cool for school. When I showed up with my husband and son to swim they looked at me like I was crazy and said they we're closed and I should have called then first. I looked at them and said I did call, and the woman looked at me with disbelief. I want to go again today because my family and I have been wanting to go for a swim but same thing as last week NO ONE IS PICKING UP THE PHONE!!!!! read more
