The studio is just like in the pictures, clean, modern and fresh. However I found for my first two times to the studio, that the staff weren't very helpful in explaining the studio. Having to line up several times to ask questions, as they didn't tell me the info straight off. Studio 2 is also down the road, 2 doors down, supposedly you can't miss - which I did. While I loved the studio and the class, I felt the staff weren't the most helpful/friendly so I will continue the hunt for another hot yoga studio.

Then I paid $25 for a drop-in, casual class. I practice hatha yoga and bikram so yin yoga was different. To be honest, at first, I thought the poses were too simple and not challenging. So i collapsed heavy into the poses. The next day, my body was sore in all sorts of places I forgot about!!! I quite enjoyed the spiritual element to the class. Also, the venue was adorable. When I go to yoga, I like it more spiritual based with movement and not super broey gym vibe. Wil was great talking about concepts such as compassion, letting go of our desire to control, and accept this moment where we are right now. After class, I stayed and chatted a bit with wil. I was pleasantly surprised to be guided through personally by owner and expert Aaron who helped my each step of the way. The studio was very boutique and boast the latest beds in a light filled room with a complementary apple on your way out. I must admit that the casual prices are a bit steep at 30 a session which would probably stop me from continuing on a regular basis. I did however find a scoupon deal which includes 5 sessions for 29 on the internet & purchased it in a heartbeat. I really enjoyed the class and intend on going back to get some more experience.

When I joined up I was given an introductory personal training session in which I was reminded how unfit I was and sent packing with a detailed report on my woeful state of health. Or that's how it felt. Totally demoralising and I never went back. That was the background to my contact with Virgin Active (Bourke St.), following a new determination to get fit. It loomed in the background as I perused their site and filled in the contact form. So much so that I shared it with them when they called me back the same day. And again when I had a tour. But my experience with Virgin was nothing like what I experienced elsewhere. It was positive, inclusive, accommodating. They looked to take their cues from me and support my goals rather than impose their own standards. I could talk about the equipment (loads of it), the space (masses of it), or the range of activities (pool/spa/sauna? Check. Indoor rock climbing? Check.) I could mention the cleanliness of the venue or friendliness of the staff. But what it comes down to here is care. Is this a warehouse full of keep fit stuff or does it house a culture of care? It's the latter. Virgin Active have my ongoing business because at each stage they have proven themselves to care about who I am, where I'm at and what I'm aiming for. And that's valuable.

I have done 2 classes here with Owner/Instructor Roman who is super patient and inviting and you will get something out of a class with him no matter your fitness level. Class 1: Gentle Qi Gong - As we were headed towards a long weekend, I had this class all by myself and Roman was good enough to still take me through the whole hour. I had never tried Qi Gong and really had no expectations but I was hoping it would be a relaxing and almost gentle dance like and it certainly was. Class 2: Chi Yoga - slightly faster paced Qi Gong combined with yoga really helps warm up the body for a busy day ahead. This class had around 7 people and they were all regulars but very friendly and introductions were quickly made. I enjoyed both classes and would encourage people to try a class here with Roman as is good at showing you how to not overdo "poses" but really use your breath and core to get the most out of your class. Note: not parking lots, street parking and be careful of clearway signs. Change room available and workshops are often run here.
